Not sleeping all night only made his features more hard and indifferent. He wrapped the boiled egg in oil paper and then heard Xu Nuo call him: "Li Xian".
He knocked on the door.
Xu Nuo took a nap, rubbed her eyes, and said to the door, "Are you going out?"
Hearing the noise, she thought Li Xian was about to go to work. Li Xian said, "I'll take you to the commune canteen after they go to work."
"Is it okay if you're late?"
Li Xian nodded: "I always go to work in the woods, not with them. But today there's a small harvest, so they all want to go."
He took on all the work in the forest by himself. He was responsible for the firewood and wooden utensils for the commune canteen. It was dangerous and hard work, but he always managed to pile up the firewood on time, so no one cared when he started work.
Xu Nuo said "Oh": "That's good. You can arrange your work hours reasonably."
What she didn't know was that in the past, it took two people to cook enough firewood for the commune canteen, so Li Xian was doing twice the work by himself.
He didn't explain, he just said, "Come and eat when you wake up."
Xu Nuo nodded.
Li Xian led her to a small wooden table, on which was a package of bird eggs wrapped in oil paper, unpeeled. Xu Nuo touched it and found it was still warm.
Did you just cook it?
He nodded, scalded a bowl of water for her, poured it into her bowl, and then stood at the door with the water in his hand.
When he finished drinking and turned around, he found Xu Nuo still blowing on the hot water with her cheeks puffed out.
Li Xian frowned, and Xu Nuo looked up, saying with a rather aggrieved expression, "It's so hot."
Li Xian reached out and touched the rim of the bowl: "It's not hot."
Xu Nuo pouted and touched it, then blew on it because it was so hot. She gave Li Xian a reproachful look and said, "It's burning hot."
Seeing her so delicate, Li Xian's expression stiffened for a moment. He turned around to find a fan for her, but couldn't find one, so he took a thin, hard wooden board. Just as he was about to hand it to her, he saw her carefully push the bowl towards him.
He paused for a moment, then stood there fanning her to cool her down, and said, "You eat the egg first."
Xu Nuo nodded, reached out and took one, tapped it on the table, and Li Xian cooled it with a water fan and handed it to her.
Xu Nuo took a sip.
Li Xian's gaze fell on the quail egg she had peeled in half.
He can't even peel an egg.
He turned around, found a clean bowl, and rinsed it with hot water.
After washing my hands, I peeled the eggs one by one into the bowl.
After peeling it, I pushed the bowl in front of her.
Then he took out the hearty dumpling he had received from the commune canteen yesterday, stood at the door, and swallowed it in a few bites.
Xu Nuo ate three bird eggs, drank a few sips of water, and called out to him, "Li Xian, I'm full."
Li Xian walked over, looked at her bowl, his face immediately darkened, and his tone returned to its initial harshness: "I don't have anything else at home, so just make do with this."
Xu Nuo was stung by his attitude and looked like she was about to cry. Li Xian turned his face away, his heart softened, and he sighed: "Your sister works very late. If you don't eat enough, you'll go hungry later."
He pointed, his tone slightly hoarse: "It'll fill you up, don't complain."
Xu Nuo couldn't stand his awkwardness any longer, so she slapped his hand hard. He looked at her in confusion.
Xu Nuo pointed at the bowl of eggs and said angrily, "What are you complaining about? Do you know how nutritious these are? You can't even get them in the city. How could I be complaining?"
His gaze softened, and he asked her, "Then why don't you eat?"
Xu Nuo rolled her eyes in exasperation: "I'm full."
He frowned at her, incredulous: "Three?"
Xu Nuo felt as if she was being looked down upon.
During her recovery period, she consistently slept very late and skipped breakfast, going straight to lunch.
Once you develop the habit of skipping breakfast, you won't have much of an appetite in the morning. She looked at him confidently and said, "That's right."
Hey, look at you, so naive and unsophisticated.
She pushed the bowl in front of him: "You can eat the rest."
He said, "I'll wrap it up for you, you can eat it when you're hungry."
Xu Nuo suddenly held up her finger and showed it to him: "My hands are clean."
Li Xian was confused, and then he saw Xu Nuo quickly pick up a piece and stuff it into his mouth.
He leaned back in shock, as if a rush of blood had surged to his head, and his face turned bright red.
With a triumphant smile, Xu Nuo pushed the bowl over: "Eat quickly, I want to go see my little red bean after I finish eating."
