Chapter 64 Eat Radishes in Winter and Ginger in Summer

"Boss, Chef Cui and Professor Jiang are here. They ordered a premium set meal and said you can order whatever dishes you like."

Upon hearing that Cui Shengguo and Grandpa Jiang had arrived, Xu Milu smiled and said, "Is this a test for me? Okay, then pour the tea first, and ask Da Liu to get an abalone to prepare."

Today's menu almost entirely revolves around radishes and mushrooms. Knowing that Cui Shengguo was determined to test her, Xu Milu didn't hold back. She skillfully prepared the ingredients while getting ready to roll up her sleeves and get to work.

The most time-consuming dishes were braised mutton with radish and honey-roasted spare ribs. Xu Milu told Da Liu to preheat the oven, threw the chopped radish pieces into the pot, and started preparing other dishes.

The appetizer, cold radish peel salad, is simple. Peel off the skin of a large radish, preferably with a little radish flesh on top. Use sugar to draw out the moisture from the radish peel, rub the peel to soften it, and then add salt, chopped chili peppers, white vinegar, light soy sauce, and aged vinegar to make a cold salad.

The radish greens weren't wasted either; they were cut into small pieces about the length of a finger joint, blanched, and then marinated with lemon juice, chili, sugar, and vinegar for ten minutes.

Stuffed ribs with mushroom sauce may seem complicated, but it's a quick and easy dish. Cut the ribs into sections, blanch them briefly in hot water to remove the scum, then remove the bones, stuff them with the stir-fried mushroom sauce, and pan-fry them until the surface turns slightly browned. Then add sweet and sour sauce and stir-fry together.

Xu Milu is quick; she cuts the mushrooms into small, square pieces, scores them on both sides, and lightly fries them in oil until the cuts open. Then she adds sweet and sour sauce and stir-fries them over high heat until the sauce thickens.

"Boss, why is this dish called vegetarian abalone? Can mushrooms really taste the same as abalone?"

Xiao Mo was drawn back by the aroma, turning around frequently and vying to have a couple more bites of the steamed bun.

With a flick of her spatula, Xu Milu placed a dish onto a plate:

"King oyster mushrooms taste a lot like cooked abalone, hence the name. If cooked properly, mushrooms can actually taste like meat."

Xiao Tao ran up to bring the dishes, and even she couldn't help but swallow hard when she smelled the aroma.

"This dish looks so appetizing! Give me a plate of the vegetarian abalone stir-fried by the owner, and I could eat two big bowls of rice!"

"Alright, stop flattering me and hurry up and serve the food. My food is ready too."

Xu Milu carried the casserole out, its enticing aroma wafting from inside the shop to the outside.

As if receiving some kind of signal, countless diners walked into the rice food shop while clutching their wallets and groaning in despair.

Sorry, little money, but I really have a craving.

I both love and hate it.
