Chapter 2
The next day, Zhao Sumu set off for the demon exorcist's headquarters. He arrived in less than ten minutes and asked an injured demon exorcist, "Hello, I would like to ask if the demon exorcist captain is here?"
The injured young man pointed to the innermost room.
Su Mu looked in the direction the young man was pointing, thanked him, and walked over.
With a nervous heart, I knocked on the door.
A young voice came from inside the door: "Please come in."
Su Mu took a deep breath and stepped forward.
What came into view was a man with his shirt off, bandaging his wounds. Su Mu looked at the man in front of him and was surprised that he was so young but a head taller than him. His bare upper body was covered with wounds, but his muscles were really strong, especially the claw mark on his back, which was very conspicuous.
The man felt the gaze and turned around. "Who are you?"
Su Mu realized that staring at the man like that was inappropriate, so she bowed and apologized, "Hello, my name is Zhao Su Mu. I want to join the demon exorcists and exorcise demons with you."
The man glanced at Su Mu and asked, "Did your family agree?"
"Um... does their lack of objection mean they agree?" Su Mu answered cautiously.
The man was amused by the answer: "Why do you want to join?"
"I want to protect my family on my own. Although there are more and more exorcists in the world, there are also more and more monsters. People will be born, grow old, get sick and die, but monsters will live forever if we don't eliminate them. So I also want to do my part for humanity!"
After hearing this, the man said, "You've said your piece nicely, but with your small frame, you could barely hold your own against the ten-year-old kid next door."
Although it was a bit hurtful, Su Mu reluctantly accepted it. "So I want to become your disciple." After saying that, Su Mu knelt down and kowtowed, giving the man no chance to react.
The man was genuinely startled by Su Mu. "Are you not giving me a chance to back out?"
Su Mu nodded while kneeling.
"My name is Wu Wei, you can just call me Captain from now on."
"So you've agreed?" Su Mu stood up happily, looking at the captain with excitement.
"Okay, come here early tomorrow. You can leave now," Wu Wei said calmly.
"Thank you, Captain," Su Mu bowed to Wu Wei again and then left.
Watching Su Mu's departing figure, Wu Wei couldn't help but fall into deep thought: Should he really take him in? Others joined his team only because they had no other choice, but this guy took the initiative to become his disciple. He didn't look very bright; if he were really going to exorcise demons…
Another day passed, and Su Mu arrived at Wu Wei's door early to wait.
Wu Wei was startled when he opened the door by Su Mu: "Why are you here so early?"
"Hehe, of course you should start practicing martial arts early! Want one of those meat buns that Second Sister bought?" Su Mu handed them over with both hands.
Wu Wei picked one up and took a bite. "It's been a long time since I've had this." As exorcists, they often stay outside the city for months at a time and really miss this taste.
Su Mu also took a bite and followed behind Wu Wei.
Two minutes later, Su Mu was led to an open space. Wu Wei pointed to the center of the open space and said, "Go there and practice your horse stance first."
Su Mu quickly finished the last bite, wiped his hands, and squatted down with a "Ha!"
Wu Wei looked at the strange creature and kicked Su Mu's buttocks, saying, "Lift it up a bit," then bent its arms, "Squat like this for an hour first."
"Huh?" Su Mu was clearly startled. "Does it take this long?"
Wu picked up the remaining meat buns from the ground without looking back, saying, "If you can't keep going, you can go home anytime."
Su Mu watched the captain's departing figure: Hmph, this time I'm going to stake my dignity as a man!
However, Su Mu couldn't hold on for more than an incense stick's time. His buttocks and arms drooped lower and lower, but Su Mu would desperately adjust his body again in an instant, and then he would slump down again. This cycle continued for half an hour.
But as the sun grew stronger, beads of sweat dripped from Su Mu's head. Su Mu quickly shook his head: No, I can't let my family make fun of me anymore!
Another half hour passed, and Su Mu's collar was soaked with sweat, and he was panting heavily, clearly at his physical limit.
Wu Wei, however, was lying leisurely on a tree not far away, watching all of this: He hadn't expected this kid to be so serious; even this hadn't deterred him.
Seeing that Su Mu was about to collapse, Wu Wei jumped down from the tree and walked straight towards Su Mu. "That's enough for today, you can go now."
As soon as Wu Wei finished speaking, Su Mu immediately collapsed, gasping for air. "Okay...okay...Captain," he said, then lay down on the ground. Although his vision was starting to blur, he was very happy.
I never thought I would actually last an hour. This is probably the first time in my life that I have persisted for so long. Sure enough, hard work will always pay off. Zhao Sumu, from today onwards, you must become a real man!
