Chapter 4
After finishing breakfast, Su Mu consciously stood at the back and joined the other demon exorcists in their training.
Although I often couldn't keep up with the movements, I still managed to learn the process.
At noon, with Lao Li's shout of "Dismissed!", everyone dispersed. Some went home for lunch, while others went back to pick up their bowls and head to the kitchen.
Although Su Mu didn't bring any utensils, he still followed them into the kitchen.
Entering the kitchen, they found only an aunt serving rice to everyone. Old Li also came in and noticed Su Mu standing alone at the door. "New guy, didn't bring your own bowl?"
Su Mu nodded awkwardly. "Hehe, I forgot."
Old Li casually took a bowl from the cabinet next to him and handed it to Su Mu, saying, "Here you go."
"Thanks, Lao Li," Su Mu said, following behind Lao Li in line.
When it was my turn, I found that lunch was just two simple steamed buns and some side dishes.
Is the food for the demon-slaying team really that bad? It's so much worse than what we eat at home!
But Su Mu didn't say anything and sat down to eat with Lao Li.
"How about it? It's nowhere near as good as your house, isn't it?" Old Li joked.
Su Mu immediately felt embarrassed. "It's alright, we've had about the same amount of food at home."
"Haha, why are you being so polite with me? The only clinic in our village definitely serves better food than this."
"Huh? Old Li, you know me?"
"I always get my medicine from your house when I come back, how could I not know you?"
Su Mu scratched his head. "Really? How come I didn't know?"
"You're always out and about, leaving your younger sister at home helping out all the time. Of course she doesn't know anything. I only saw you a few times when I went there myself."
Su Mu wanted to crawl under the table when a stranger said that to him.
"But why do you suddenly want to join the demon-slaying team when you were doing perfectly fine at home? That's not an easy job."
"The demon-slaying team is so cool!" Su Mu suddenly perked up. "Especially the captain, he's like a god when he wields his sword!" The scene of Wu Wei wielding his sword in the martial arts arena kept flashing through Su Mu's mind.
Old Li was amused by this reason. "Just because of that? Do you know that this is a job where you're constantly risking your life?"
Su Mu hadn't expected this. "Is it really that dangerous?"
Old Li was also defeated by Su Mu's idea: "You haven't seen monsters. They are dozens of times larger than us humans and have various forms. Cutting them is useless. You have to cut off their heads or pierce their hearts to completely disable their bodily functions in order to defeat them. At most, we ordinary team members can only injure them. Only the captain has occasionally managed to kill a few monsters. If we encounter a more powerful monster, we're lucky if we can come back alive."
"Huh?" Su Mu didn't expect that Wu Wei, who was so strong, could only barely kill a few monsters.
Old Li patted Su Mu on the shoulder. "What's wrong? Scared?"
Su Mu was stunned. "Are those monsters really that strong? Old Li, do you think I can go out and kill monsters after a few years of training?"
Old Li carefully examined Su Mu for a moment. "If you train for three to five years, you might be able to barely slay demons."
This sentence gave Su Mu confidence: "Really, Lao Li!"
Old Li nodded. "Yes, you can go to the monster's lair and kill its newborn cubs, hahaha."
Su Mu rolled his eyes at Old Li. "This isn't funny at all."
After lunch, Su Mu continued training until everyone left before heading home.
On the way back, he kept rubbing his arms.
I'm so tired. It's only the first day and I'm already this tired. And Old Li said it's just some basic training. At this rate, when will I ever be able to hold a knife?
Back home, my sister was still managing the pharmacy.
Su Mu glanced at it and continued walking towards the room.
"The demon-slaying team has left?"
"yes"
"It's hard to believe they actually want you," Ren Dong said, casting a questioning glance at him.
"Huh? I've already started training! One day, your brother will become a big hero in the city. How about I protect you then?"
"Do you really understand monsters?" Ren Dong asked seriously.
"What do you mean?" Su Mu was indeed asked. Although he joined the demon-slaying team on a whim, he really didn't know anything about demons or the demon-slaying team.
"Our demon-slaying team consists of only Wu Wei, who has some ability to kill demons. The rest are just old, weak, sick, and disabled. This place is desolate and only has some low-level demons, which are just a bit bigger. Two or three people with Wu Wei's skills can handle them. But if you encounter some mid-level or high-level demons, even a few lives won't be enough to kill you."
Su Mu was shocked by these words. "You mean monsters are divided into levels?"
Honeysuckle sighed deeply, "You really joined without knowing anything?"
Seeing Su Mu shake his head, he said, "So-called low-level monsters are tall but lack intelligence, relying solely on brute force. They generally forage in relatively remote areas and can be subdued using tactics or by those skilled in martial arts. Mid-level monsters are relatively smaller but possess some intelligence and basic judgment, potentially requiring a team to deal with them. High-level monsters, on the other hand, are indistinguishable from humans, even more intelligent. They disguise themselves as humans and blend into the human world, but high-level monsters disdain places like ours."
Su Mu's mouth dropped open after hearing this. "How do you know so much?"
"Are you an idiot? If you had just done some research, you wouldn't be completely clueless!"
Su Mu laughed awkwardly, "Haha, I was just kidding you. I actually know everything."
Honeysuckle didn't want to talk to this idiot anymore. "You should reconsider!" she said, then tidied up the house and walked towards her own room.
Su Mu watched his sister go back to her room and then silently walked back to his own room.
The two elderly people who were squatting in the corner eavesdropping quietly asked, "Do you think this method of honeysuckle can persuade Sumu to come back?"
Old Zhao shook his head. "Who knows?"
