Chapter 41: Monsters.

Monsters. They were real, and came in form of humans, mingling with society and going on with their seemingly ordinary lives. Raziah had always exerted a tremendous amount of self-control on herself because she had learned things the hard way, and if by any chance something makes her release the restraints on herself- the cold barrier that’s holding her back from unleashing it all out then everything she’s been headed toward would crumble into the pieces.

The second acacia said the word ’ Vampire ’, Raziah’s heart stopped. There was this significant pause in her heart, and her blood had roared as it rushed through her veins. She believed she had seen something that unfaithful night and the image of it was still clear in her head, but actually seeing it happening in daylight, right before her very eyes made her feel this crawling hate toward them. In her Best interest toward herself, she had repeatedly told herself that they weren’t real, and that they were only playing jokes at her.

For the past ten years when her life had been soaked in nothing but blinding pain, she had held onto herself and Malcolm. There were mythical books in almost every library she visited, and her curiosity had her reading through every last one of them to learn about what they could do. She wasn’t sure if all that the book said was correct, but she knew it wasn’t a complete lie. And the more books she read, the more her hate grew for them all, and she wanted nothing more than to throw all those books into a pit of fire.

Now those monsters portrayed are actually real, and everything she’s forced herself to believe in instead was vanishing away as the raw truth settled inside of her. The monsters in her nightmares are now baring themselves open right before her gaze, and the first thing that her mind uttered was to run away. Run as far as she could till she was properly ready to take it.

"Now that you know what we are, we don’t need to take the carriage anymore." The sorceress stated, gesturing at Fertiti to come over and take the princess back to the kingdom using her strength and speed, then Acacia changed her mind, "Don’t worry, I’ll do it myself. Let’s leave the way we got here,"

In a few seconds, Raziah found herself standing inside the palace.

Everything was making so much sense now. That insecurity she felt around every one of them, the urge to walk away whenever she saw them coming, and the prickles on her skin whenever they came too close.

"Thank you," Raziah uttered at the sorceress before proceeding toward Fabia’s room. The discomfort had already colored her mind a long time ago, and she wanted to either be alone or at least be around someone normal. Even before Raziah could knock, the door knob was pulled open and Fabia stood at the other side, fumbling with a cloak in her hands. Rattled to see the Princess and Caius, her eyes shone with relief like a thousand pounds of worry had just been lifted off her shoulders.

But that worry was quick to return when she saw the injury on both of them.

"It’s very deep," Fabia cried softly as the applied the necessary medicinal herbs over Raziah’s wound. The princess just laid there, already exploring her own world of thoughts as the doctor kept taking care of the wound. She would have given her sleeping pills or herbs to help calm the pain, but Raziah had declined without another word. Felix had already brought as many tools and equipment as Fabia would need to stay here, so she silently worked on the injury.

She quickly wrapped it up and took care of it for the day.

"If you don’t want the herbs, I’ll make the herb tea instead and you have to take it for you to quickly recover!" Fabia pronounced sternly at the unmoving woman who hadn’t said a word since she dropped Caius who was still fast asleep. The doctor then sighed heavily, and picked up the bloody basin she had used to clean up the wound first, and the towels heading for the bathroom to pour them away.

"They’re real," Raziah whispered almost inaudible, making the doctor pause in her steps. Fabia’s arm trembled for a bit, and she could already feel the tears gathering in her eyes. Her grip on the basin grew tighter, "Monsters... everywhere." Raziah murmured weakly, her throat stinging from pain and regret while her stomach churned. There was this ache spreading around her chest, and her breathing was getting erratic by the moment. As her emotions kept getting out of control with the shudders that shook her state of mind, all she could see was the vague image of Fabia’s face twisted in distress, and it looked like she was yelling something... but Raziah had already fallen into slumber.

Aletta found herself standing in front of the palace, and her face turned pale. She knew Zoan was royalty but is this where he came from? Erandell was like one of the most powerful kingdoms she’s ever heard of, but recently they fell Into war with another, and from the way things are looking it seems the war had shaken them.

Now, the main question here was...Where is Zoan?

He had instructed her to keep moving till she came across the palace, and now she was standing right outside yet he wasn’t back. He never leaves his tent when the sun is out, which baffled her because it was almost afternoon and the man was still missing. Plus, she was extremely tired from having to carry everything when he was obviously the strongest amongst the both of them.

Looking back and forth, Aletta could feel the excitement and fear rushing through her. She’s never lived with so many Vampires before and wondered how their daily lives worked. Then again, she was afraid that the closer she got to them, the higher the chances were for someone to discover her secret.

Dropping the luggage beside her to take a breather, she began admiring the palace. She couldn’t wait to go exploring around, and see if the rest of Zoan’s family were like him. Speaking of Zoan, she glanced around to see if he would have shown up by now but there was hardly anyone around.

"Why would he leave her standing here? When did I ever agree to be his slave? Idiot!" She mumbled under her breath, her brows furrowed in annoyance. If only she could choke him the second he gets back, instead, her heart would start fluttering like crazy and her legs would turn Into jelly whenever he came too close.

Just two weeks and she already had ridiculous feelings for the man.

Her heart was stupid for feeling like that, and she was even more stupid to consider telling him how she felt. What if he completely rips her head off then? Who would she blame for that?

Like a shadow, Zoan walked right past her at that moment. She didn’t even know it was him at first since he wasn’t very close till she sighted his hair and picked up the luggage, running over to him with her small legs. The guards at the front gate looked mystified when they saw him approaching, and none of them said a word as they let them into the grand place.

Aletta’s jaw dropped as she gazed around the new environment she found herself in. She felt like running around like a little girl, but she couldn’t because a particular person might knock her brains out if she dared. She walked closely behind him as they walked further in. Most of the women walking around wearing the same set of wears who happened to be women kept gasping in shock as they watched him walk by. Some dropped the items they were holding, and others looked like they had just seen a phantom. Aletta was basically invisible because no one even noticed she was there with him.

They had just rounded up a corner when Zoan abruptly halted, and Because Aletta was busy admiring the design all over the walls she almost ran into his sturdy back. She looked up at him, at his engulfing presence with her heart skipping a beat when she felt something different.

The room was already warm enough because of his appearance, and Aletta never imagined that there could be someone out there who could match his overbearing presence till the point that both aura’s were clashing, with each threatening to overtake the other.

With a gulp, she peeked to see who was the other man standing in front of Zoan. Huh? Aletta blinked. She fixed her gaze back at Zoan, then to the other regal man standing a few steps away from them. The stranger had jet-black hair that went all the way down his back, and his eyes were the darkest shade of black she’s ever seen.

Good lord, what the hell is going on here?

"Long time no see, Dear Brother." Zoan was the first to break the overweighting silence.
