Chapter 44: Inside the Cupboard.

She was Freezing.

There wasn’t much difference between the temperature of her skin and that of ice. Aletta couldn’t even begin to comprehend what sort of complicated things going on through her body to render her this way. Aletta could still feel her breathing, but it almost barely.

Was the woman dying? Does Aletta need to return and call the doctor to check up on her?

The woman’s skin was so pale that her veins were almost visible, and it was very alarming. She shook shakily on her feet, flinging her head around aimlessly as If the solution to the problem would show up right that second. She had this idea that could work, but she had never tried it before on anyone and didn’t know if she would get it right.

Aletta still couldn’t come to a decision as minutes passed. The sound of approaching footsteps had her squealing very softly, and she frantically tiptoed around looking for a place to hide. Squeezing herself into the wooden cupboard, she quietly closed the door just as the doorknob turned around, and someone walked in.

At first, she couldn’t see who it was at all till the person strode over to the bed which was facing her direction. The cold Room began to feel warmer gradually as she then realized it was Zoan’s brother that had just walked in. What was his name again?

She watched without making a sound. Even her breathing was extremely low, and the only thing keeping her confidence up was the fact that he might not be able to sense her presence. Normally, he would have known she was in there the second he walked in, but it meant he was clueless since he just walked over to the sleeping woman and started watching her.

His long regal attire dragged across the floor, and his dark hair was hooked to the middle of his head with a small golden pin. His mysterious eyes searched the sleeping woman again from head to toe, but Aletta couldn’t catch his facial expressions from where he stood. All she knew was that he didn’t move another inch closer or backward, and the heat of the room was steadily increasing with his presence.

Aletta wondered how they were related, and also tried to recall where she had seen the cold woman because she was very sure they must have met somewhere before.

About an hour passed, and there was still no sign of the man moving. Aletta was slowly getting impatient, but she knew it was better for her to keep staying there till he left, or else the consequences might be dire. It could seem like she came to steal something, and then she would be in big trouble. With time, her mind began wishing for the man to leave so she would also find her way out but she was beginning to lose hope.

It was past two hours, and someone like her ought to be asleep now. Plus, she happened to be sitting in a very uncomfortable position inside the cupboard, and her right leg was hurting. She would peek out through the small opening from time to time, but Zoan’s brother refused to move.

He finally moved and sat down beside the cold woman. It was so obvious how stiff his body was, and she thought to herself that he must be worried about her. Aletta was getting more and more cramps around her abused leg, and without thinking her muscles thought of stretching themselves which lead to an even bigger disaster. Aletta’s body made a sharp turn, and her head hit the door of the drawer, pushing it open as she slipped out of it completely

There was utter silence at first. She had her eyes squeezed shut, and all she could hear was the pounding of her heart against her ribcage. There was no escaping now that her body had given out on her, and Zoan’s brother who might just be worse than him was here in the same room with her.

A small knock came from the door, and the next second about two maids walked in silently and stepped into the second door with Aletta assumed to be the bathroom. She gulped as they finished what they were to do, then silently walked past her again and out of the room. Now it was shocking that they saw her there and didn’t say a word, or did they?

Aletta, whom was still lying on her back, quickly found her way back to her feet. Now she was getting suspicious about Zoan’s brother because he ought to have at least turned around when she fell out of her hiding place. That was when Aletta saw her luggage sitting in one corner of the room, and her eyes slowly dilated.

She had left them standing there when she had came closer to the sleeping woman, and had completely forgotten about them after that. Does this mean that Zoan’s brother had known about her presence from the moment he walked in? Aletta almost palmed her face for being so stupid not to have realized that sooner.

Swallowing hard, she resorted to escaping by crawling along with the walls. She tried not to make a sound as she finally got to where her things were waiting.

"Call the doctor. Tell her the bath water is ready." His crusty deep voice rang through Aletta’s head, and she almost fainted again as anxiety gripped her from head to toe. Was he referring to her?

She held her chest, glued to the wall. There was no one else in the room apart from the three of them, so he had to be talking to her right?

"Yes, your highness!" She quickly took advantage of the opportunity and took off running with her things. She already knew she would have to go back to seek the doctor’s help in leading her out of the palace- except if he was referring to another doctor she didn’t know about. Luckily, Aletta was able to locate the room again without stress.

She knocked softly, "Hi, it’s Etta."

In a few seconds, The door opened, and there stood a shirtless child with brown hair and ash eyes looking up at her scrutinizingly. His gaze was hard at first, before he suddenly broke into a huge smile, "The weird woman is back! Aunt Ana, I told you she’ll come back!"

Caius reached out and pulled Aletta in, "Come on in,"

"Ohhh, thank you." She replied, feeling embarrassed that a child like him had enough strength to drag like she weighed nothing. She was once again reminded of her small she was compared to others. Aletta was almost averagely tall, but she had a thin stature. She wasn’t malnourished, that was just the way she is.

"Is everything alright?" Fabia walked over, staring between the both of them. She most especially glared at Caius before returning her eyes to Aletta with a kind look.

"I was asked to come and get you. Uhhh, Zoan’s brother? Or is it his twin brother? You know him right?"

"Who...is Zoan?"

Aletta then began describing him, "Dark long hair and fierce eyes. Has a gaze that could kill. Tall and looks like royalty...He looks a lot like Zoan too and seems scary. Whenever he’s present, it gets warm, and he..."

Fabia almost grinned. Etta sounded so cute as she tried so hard to make her understand who she was referring to, "You mean his Majesty right? His name is Aragon Odysseus." She stated, swallowing back the smile.

"Oh, so Zoan is Zoan Odysseus too. The surname is just as scary too," Aletta was speaking to herself now with such stealth concentration. Her eyes were shining, and Fabia swiftly turned around and smiled without anyone seeing her.

"Do you have any idea why he asked you to call me?" Sue enquired, walking up to close the book she had been reading.

"I’m not sure, but I think it has to do with this woman who was asleep and her skin was so cold..."

Fabia now understood, it was time to give Raziah had regular three hours interval bath again, she had Lost track of time because of how engrossed she had gotten herself into reading the books Felix had brought to her, "That woman is his wife, and you will help me with bathing her," Fabia declared, making it sound so Normal like it happened every day.

"Wow... wait, what?" Aletta’s face turned pale, "Help you bathe her? I don’t..." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

"You haven’t paid me for bringing you back to life after you almost died." Fabia picked up the things she would be needing, and Caius was already excitedly snatching away Aletta’s luggage and hauling it somewhere into the room. He looked so damn cheerful that Aletta couldn’t even get mad at him.

"Died? When was that?!"

Fabia had already grabbed her hand and was pulling her away, while Caius stood back to lock the room, before running over to catch up with them, "Why do you think you woke up in my room? I had to revive you. It took away most of my strength. Consider this as you repaying me." Fabia waited a bit till Caius was with them again.

"But wait, I can’t go back in there!" Aletta pleaded, then added in a whisper, "His... Majesty in person...I can’t stay close to him. He’s uhhh..."

"Scary? Yeah, we all gotta man up to that,"

"Man up? I don’t think there’s anyone that has that level of confidence. Have you seen the way he walks? Have you seen his eyes? Woah! Something was burning in there!"

"Right Right, now let’s go bath her highness!"
