Qi Yanxu didn't drink as frantically as Jiang Hua; instead, he drank slowly. Looking at her flushed face from the alcohol, he felt a pang of pity. "I know you didn't do it. I believe you."
He drank a lot with Jiang Hua, not trying to persuade her to drink less, because he knew she desperately needed to vent. It was just for tonight; he would indulge her.
I don't know how much I drank, but my memory started to get muddled and my head started to feel heavy.
Jiang Hua looked at Qi Yanxu sleeping beside her, a smile playing on her lips as she lay down next to him, murmuring, "Gu Yiming..."
Sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, falling on the two people sleeping peacefully in bed. The scene was somewhat warm and cozy. Wisps of dust floated in the air.
I woke up again at eight in the morning, my head still heavy and groggy.
She couldn't help but gasp.
Jiang Hua, enduring her headache, steadied herself and looked around. Qi Yanxu was still fast asleep beside her. She couldn't help but be startled; how did she end up sleeping next to Qi Yanxu?
She subconsciously glanced at her underwear; thankfully, it was still there. Clearly, nothing like that had happened. Jiang Hua breathed a sigh of relief. She had blacked out yesterday and didn't remember saying anything strange to him.
Well, at least nothing bad happened. Looks like I'll have to be more careful with alcohol in the future.
Jiang Hua quickly tidied her clothes and hair. Since she was just sleeping here, there were no toiletries. After a quick rinse of her mouth, Jiang Hua glanced at Qi Yanxu before running out of the room. She needed to leave quickly; if Gu Yiming found out, something terrible might happen.
The bar was quite secluded, and the surroundings were excessively quiet. She walked for a while, then started running again.
Jiang Hua was startled when her phone vibrated in her pocket. She took out her phone and saw that it was Qi Yanxu calling. Without thinking, she answered.
"You went back? When did you go back?" Qi Yanxu's voice was a little anxious.
In contrast to his anxiety, Jiang Hua remained calm. "I just came out. Don't overthink what happened last night, it's nothing. If I said anything, just forget about it."
Qi Yanxu gave a wry smile. Even when Jiang Hua was drunk, she wouldn't say anything to him; her conversations always revolved around Gu Yiming. What was he supposed to do with her?
Do you need me to give you a ride?
"No need. If you take me, it will only cause more misunderstandings. I'll hang up now." Jiang Hua said and then hung up the phone without hesitation.
Just as she put her phone back in her pocket, it vibrated again. Jiang Hua paused, then took out her phone with a hint of annoyance, assuming it was Qi Yanxu calling again. Her hand was already on the hang-up button when she realized it was Gu Yiming calling. She hesitated. As the saying goes, what you fear most is what happens. After thinking for a few more moments, she answered.
"Where were you yesterday?" Gu Yiming's deep voice flowed from the phone, flat and somewhat cold.
Jiang Hua froze for a few seconds, her heart pounding. Lying didn't feel good, but she was terrified that Gu Yiming would misunderstand her, so she took a deep breath and said, "At the film crew's hotel."
Gu Yiming fell silent, not saying a word for a long time. She wasn't here at all; she was lying!
Although he was somewhat angry yesterday, he still chose to go to her place. He thought she would be there, but she wasn't.
Even now, her room is still empty.
Why did she lie to him?
He felt a surge of anger in his chest, which he couldn't vent.
First, Jiang Shiwan was hospitalized yesterday because of her fainting, and now she's lying to him again! How many sides of Jiang Hua are there that he doesn't know about?
Gu Yiming felt somewhat pathetic for falling for a woman so full of lies. If she had only hit Jiang Shiwan, he might have been a little angry, but he could have tolerated her little temper, because that would have proven that Jiang Hua cared about him.
But now she's lying to him, and he really doesn't know what reason to use to convince himself anymore. He can't help but feel exhausted.
Jiang Hua felt guilty for his silence, shook her body, and ran to the film set even faster.
Taxis are extremely rare in this area, and even if they were available, she couldn't wait any longer. The bus stop was right next to the highway, but she'd have to go quite a distance further. And the bus wouldn't be as fast as a taxi. Thinking it over, she realized she had no choice but to run; she had to get there quickly.
Gu Yiming's silence undoubtedly made her heart beat even faster. She was afraid that her lie would be exposed, and even more afraid that he would misunderstand her.
She knew she shouldn't have run out, and she especially shouldn't have gone drinking with Qi Yanxu. She truly regretted it now, but life has no rehearsals; it's always a live broadcast. She could only hurry, hurry, so that Gu Yiming wouldn't misunderstand.
"Gu Yiming?" she asked tentatively. Her voice was calm, but only she knew how terrified she was.
"I'm at your door. Open the door." Gu Yiming's voice turned even colder. Since she had said that, he was too embarrassed to call her out on it. If she wanted to play along, he would play along.
Jiang Hua's heart skipped a beat. Gu Yiming was already there? How could this be! No, she had to keep it a secret.
Jiang Hua glanced casually at the stalls nearby, a sudden thought flashed through her mind, and she calmed down. "Now? Sorry, Yiming, I left a long time ago. I'll buy you breakfast. Have you eaten? If not, I'll buy you some."
"Um."
Jiang Hua breathed a sigh of relief upon receiving his agreement and walked up to the stall owner, saying, "Wait for me a moment."
"Haven't you had breakfast yet, young lady?" The stall vendor's voice was soft and soothing. Jiang Hua didn't hang up the phone, because this way Gu Yiming could hear everything that happened, thus proving the truthfulness of her words.
"Okay. I'll take two. How much?" Jiang Hua asked hurriedly.
20.
Jiang Hua took out two bills from her wallet, gave them to her, and left. She glanced at the screen; Gu Yiming had already hung up the call. She had finally breathed a sigh of relief, but this incident made her anxious again.
Did Gu Yiming even hear what she just said? Otherwise, all she did would have been meaningless. Jiang Hua gritted her teeth in anger.
But she was too embarrassed to call him again to ask if he believed her or not, so she quickened her pace back to the hotel where the film crew was staying.
Whether it was luck or not, a taxi passed by Jiang Hua and asked, "Miss, need a ride?"
"To Minghai Road. Thanks." Jiang Hua didn't refuse, after all, the taxi was indeed fast. She quickly got in and paid the driver one hundred.
...
Gu Yiming held his phone, waiting for Jiang Hua for a long time, but she still hadn't appeared. His deep eyes made it impossible to tell what he was thinking. He picked up his phone and made a call. "Find out Jiang Hua's recent whereabouts for me. I need to know very detailed information."
