Chapter 3
Ayala went to bed late and woke up early. She slept for a very short time. When Blake woke up, she had already washed, dressed, and was sitting in a daze.
She didn't know how to comb her hair, so she left it hanging down as usual. Black took her to the auditorium for breakfast, and Professor Slughorn, the head of Slytherin, came to hand out the class schedules to the freshmen.
Blake was a fifth-grade student and had more classes than her. She just ate something and went to class. Finally, no one touched her.
The first class on the schedule was Transfiguration. Ayala remembered that the woman in green from yesterday said she was a professor of Transfiguration. Each freshman had a map of Hogwarts. With the help of this map, she finally found the Transfiguration classroom before class.
There were already quite a few people in the classroom. Slytherins and Hufflepuffs attended classes together. She found a seat in the middle and sat down. It was not until the class was almost over that a Hufflepuff girl sat next to her.
"In this class I'm going to teach you how to turn matches into needles. Transfiguration is an interesting subject. If you learn it well, you can do many things, like this."
Professor McGonagall took her wand and cast a spell on a quill, and the next second the quill turned into a comb.
"That way you don't have to worry if you can't find your comb."
Most people were amazed at this magic, including her, of course.
"But you can't learn that yet. Your task today is to turn the matches into needles. Let's get started."
Professor McGonagall wrote the spell on the blackboard. Ayala looked at the match, thinking about the look and feel of the needle, and then recited the spell.
Something surprising happened to her. When she opened her eyes, what she held in her hand was no longer a match, but a beautiful needle.
"Miss Turner actually succeeded on her first try. No one I know, including myself, has had such an easy time. Ten points to Slytherin."
...The Hufflepuff girl next to her was still reciting the spell with great difficulty. She was looking at the needle on the table and fell into deep thought. At this moment, a cry of surprise came from behind her. Ayala turned around and saw the black-haired boy. There was already a needle on his table, which looked even more beautiful than hers. His companions exclaimed, and Professor McGonagall came over and smiled at him.
"This year's Slytherin freshmen are all excellent. Ten points for Slytherin. There's even a pattern on this needle."
She turned her head and continued to play with the needle she had conjured up. By the end of the get out of class, they were the only two people who had conjured up a needle.
There are two classes in the morning and one class in the afternoon. Transfiguration is followed by spells, which is very convenient and they don’t need to bring anything else.
The one who teaches spells is Professor Flitwick, a goblin, the same kind of magical creature that works at Gringotts, and he is a master of spells.
"In the first class, we will teach you the Levitation Spell. Don't underestimate this spell. It can make your life much more convenient, but it's not a simple one."
After saying the standard spell he gave everyone a feather.
"Wingardium leviosa."
She recited the spell in the same manner as the professor. Ayala didn't expect it to succeed, but the next second, the feather suddenly floated up and flew higher and higher, and it took a full thirty seconds before it fell down.
"Amazing! Miss Turner, I've never seen a freshman perform such a perfect levitation spell. Ten points to Slytherin! I think you can practice other spells. They're all written in the textbook."
"I will, Professor."
After a moment Professor Flitwick came back over and spoke to her in a low voice.
"Ms. Turner, I have a Charms Club. It's for students who are good at Charms. There are students from all grades. Would you like to join?"
"Can I, a freshman, join?"
"Of course you can. I can see that you have a talent for Charms. If you want to join, there are no classes on Friday afternoons. My club will be open then. Come to the Charms classroom at 3 pm."
"I'll consider it, Professor."
Ayala found it very strange that she could always complete the spells without putting much effort into it.
The afternoon class was Potions, and this class was taken with Gryffindor. During lunch, Black only ate with her and then left to do homework. She said that because they had to prepare for the OWLs exam in the fifth grade, the homework would be so much that it would make them question their lives.
In the afternoon, she walked into the Potions classroom on time with her cauldron and textbook. There were already many people in the classroom. She had taken 20 extra minutes in the morning, and many Slytherins invited her to sit with them. She found a girl to sit with.
As the bell rang, a professor walked in. It was Professor Slughorn, the head of Slytherin.
He seemed very friendly. After calling our names, he began to teach some theoretical knowledge. He said that we would practice it in the next class.
Ayala took two full pages of notes, and when the get out of class was over, Black was waiting at the door of the Potions classroom.
"...Shouldn't you be in class at this hour?"
"This class is dismissed early. The Quidditch team has practice today. Do you want to go with me?"
Quidditch? She had no idea what that was, but she felt like she'd look weird if she asked, so she nodded.
"good."
"Let's go, they've already taken up space."
Black brought her to a large lawn where several familiar Slytherins were already standing. They were all wearing the same green clothes. Black pulled her and walked over slowly.
"Lucius is captain of the Slytherin team, and Slytherin has won five years in a row."
She responded perfunctorily.
"Cissy, you're here."
Malfoy nodded at her.
"You guys go sit in the stands, we're about to start."
"Let's go Ayala."
Ayala followed her and sat on a higher platform. They all sat on a broom, kicked their feet and flew up instantly.
...It's amazing.
"You guys will have Quidditch lessons next week, and you can use your brooms then."
"Can you fly too?"
This seemed to be the first time Ayala took the initiative to talk to her.
"Yes, but I can't fly as well as they do."
These people kept practicing until two hours later when people from other colleges arrived and they stopped.
Several people were covered in sweat and panting, but none of them looked unhappy; they all looked quite happy.
When they returned, it was already dinner time. Some people did not go back to take a shower, but sat down to eat. However, a few of them were not busy eating, but were discussing some strategies with Malfoy.
When Blake finished eating, Ayala also finished eating, and they went back together. In the dormitory, Blake took out a box of something he didn't know what it was, applied it on his face, and after noticing her gaze, he explained to her.
"This is a beauty potion that can be applied to the face. Do you want to use it?"
“…No.”
"You don't have to rush to finish your homework. You can do it over the weekend."
"I think... the sooner I finish writing, the more at ease I'll be."
By the time she finished her homework for the day, Blake was already in his pajamas and ready for bed.
Her pajamas... were very beautiful, a white gauze skirt that reached her calves. They were very similar to her aunt's pajamas, the only difference being that hers were pure white, while hers had roses embroidered on the chest.
Ayala stared at her pajamas for a long time, and he didn't know if she noticed that she had been reading for half an hour before falling asleep.
Each class was scheduled twice a week, and the next Potions class was on Friday. Soon the Potions class arrived. She was a little nervous about making potions in this class, but Black told her that there was nothing to be nervous about. She could get away with it by sitting in the third or fourth row in the class because Professor Slughorn never went there.
However, when she entered the classroom, the third and fourth rows were already full, with almost no one in the front row and only a few in the back row.
She took Potions class with Gryffindor. Black had explained to her the inexplicable hatred between Gryffindor and Slytherin. She said it was entirely because Gryffindor had the most Muggle students, and Muggles were... and a bunch of other unpleasant words.
She sat in the second row. When Professor Slughorn came in, he announced a piece of news that was hard for her to accept: they would form teams of two.
That's right, this year, and even in the next six years, she will have to team up with someone to make potions. She can't do it alone, she must have a partner.
Ayala wanted to die, and pairing her with someone else was a non-starter.
