Chapter 18 It's Me
On the twenty-ninth day of the twelfth lunar month, Liu Yiner got up early in the morning, closed the courtyard door and went to her parents' home. In fact, she was also ashamed to meet Mrs. Li next door. Every time she was asked about Gu Wan, she would eventually fail to keep up the lie. Would she really take out the divorce letter and remarry?
No, although she didn't know whether Gu Wan could find a good family after proving her innocence in the letter, she didn't want to try at all. Not to mention that Gu Wan's identity was exposed, she would definitely not come back here again in the future.
She herself was extremely unwilling to do so. Although she didn't want to admit it, Liu Yin'er couldn't ignore her honest heart. If, if she was willing...
If that person really has his own difficulties, and if she is willing to be a fake couple with that person for the rest of her life, then does it mean that the two of them can live together for a long time? I remember when we just got married, A Wan once said that if she has someone in her heart in the future, that person will definitely be me.
When I heard these words, my heart felt as sweet as honey, but now when I think about it, it feels bitter. I am afraid that she knew that two women would not fall in love, so she deceived me like this. But I am so useless. I know that she is a woman and that this fake thing is outrageous, but I can't help missing her and fantasizing about the possibility.
On New Year's Eve, her father asked her to stay at her mother's house for one night. Liu Yiner thought for a long time and finally decided to go back. During the New Year, every family would set off firecrackers in the early morning to bring good luck in the coming year. Although she was the only one left at home, she still wanted to light New Year's firecrackers for her own yard. Although that annoying person would not come back, she could not ignore it. This was their home!
Looking at the Spring Festival couplets in front of the door, Liu Yiner couldn't help but feel a lump in her throat. If that person never came back, if there was no possibility for them anymore, what should she do in the future? Should she just wait hopelessly like this?
After packing up her things, Liu Yiner lay down on the bed. Even through the quilt, she still felt cold to the bone. She tightened the quilt around her body and tried hard to fall asleep.
Suddenly, there were several gentle knocks on the door. She was so nervous that she stopped breathing. Her hands and feet were cold and curled up tightly. Her mouth felt like it was glued shut. She wanted to shout but couldn't open it. Who was it? The gate must be locked. He must have climbed over the wall to get in. Thinking of all the possibilities, she couldn't help but tremble. She didn't dare to move at all, just huddled tightly in the quilt, not even having the courage to get up.
"Yin'er, it's me, open the door quickly." A familiar voice came from outside the door.
She relaxed a little, opened her mouth with difficulty, and asked with a dry throat, "Who is it?"
"Yin'er, open the door quickly, it's me, Gu Wan." After carefully identifying the voice outside and confirming that it was that person, Liu Yin'er was stunned for a while before she realized that she was back. Then she stood up, put on a coat and came to the door.
Gu Wan had been having an extremely torturous time these past few days. She would gather up her courage overnight, but would lose it the next day. Tomorrow was New Year's Eve, and she didn't return to Liujia Village in a daze until the sun set.
When she arrived at the gate of her yard, she found it was locked. Fortunately, the wall was not high. She was afraid that her shouting would alarm the neighbors and cause unnecessary trouble, so she thought about climbing over the wall into her yard. The lights in the house were off.
Gu Wan knocked on the door gently a few times, but heard no response. Suddenly she realized that the person inside didn't know it was her, so she paused for a few seconds and called out when she knocked on the door again.
She thought the door would open, but she heard an almost hoarse voice of "Who is it?" from inside the room. She could hear the fear and anxiety in the voice through the door. Gu Wan then realized that she had misjudged the situation again. She was afraid that she had scared Yin'er this time.
Liu Yiner came to the door and asked cautiously, "Is that you?"
"It's me, Yin'er, don't be afraid, it's me." Gu Wan quickly responded, fearing that if he answered slowly, he would scare the people in the house.
With a "creak", the door opened a crack, and Gu Wan quickly got in to escape the cold night wind. Then he turned around and locked the door consciously. Only then did he take advantage of the dim light to look at the girl he had been thinking about day and night.
Liu Yin'er had been living alone in this empty yard these days. She was timid to begin with, and every night she would tremble with fear until very late before she could barely fall asleep. So when Gu Wan locked the door and turned around, she hesitated for a few seconds before throwing herself into his arms. However, she controlled herself at the last moment, grabbed Gu Wan's arms, and said in a trembling voice, "Ah Wan, why are you back?"
Gu Wan remained silent. At this moment, any words would be superfluous. She naturally raised the corners of her mouth, hugged the person in front of her tightly into her arms, lowered her head and put her mouth on Liu Yiner's neck. Her cold lips made the person in her arms tremble slightly.
Gu Wan laughed silently again and took a deep breath. The air was filled with the unique and pleasant smell of her dear lady. She rubbed her neck like a stray cat. She said to the person in her arms with satisfaction and sincerity, "Yin'er, I miss you, I miss you so much."
After saying out loud the words that she had been suppressing in her heart, Gu Wan suddenly felt relaxed, as if she had found a sense of existence for the first time in the eighteen years since she came to this ancient place. The night also became indescribably beautiful in her eyes, and a fulfilling warmth welled up in her heart, which seemed to be the feeling of happiness.
When Gu Wan hugged her, Liu Yiner responded with both hands. The smell was familiar but carried the cold wind from the window. She exerted force with her hands, as if to confirm whether the person in front of her was real or not. If she knew a line of poetry, it would probably describe this moment: I am afraid that our meeting is just a dream!
It turns out that the longing for her these days was not self-indulgent. What did she mean by what she said? Was it what she understood? Then could they... Liu Yiner's throat moved, but she finally gave up her surprise and doubts. No matter what, it was good that she was back. Why bother with so much entanglement?
Liu Yin'er lay in bed but couldn't fall asleep peacefully. This annoying man had been looking at her with his arms propped up for half a minute. Although he knew she was a woman, he still felt embarrassed. "What are you doing? Aren't you going to sleep?"
Gu Wan looked at the person beside him, as if he could never get enough of looking at her. He was immersed in his own excitement, but was suddenly interrupted by Liu Yin'er's coquettish voice. The corners of his mouth rose spontaneously. "What should I do, Yin'er? I really want to look at you like this, and never close my eyes."
"I'm cold, the quilt is getting drafty. Turn off the lights and go to bed quickly, otherwise please go back." This person seemed to have changed. His previous indifference and self-restraint were gone. The sweet words that came out of his mouth made her heart sweet. In order to hide the burning shyness, Liu Yiner forced herself to keep a cold face. After she finished speaking, she quickly turned over and faced away from the man, for fear that her steaming face would be exposed.
Seeing her blushing face, Gu Wan did not expose her. His wife was very shy. He slowly put his hands on the waist of the person with her back to him. Seeing that she was not stopped, he boldly tightened his arms. The two bodies were pressed tightly together. He felt his chest beating like a drum again, so he stopped and slowly closed his eyes.
Suddenly, a pair of hands touched her waist. Liu Yin'er endured the unfamiliar tingling sensation and did not move. The person behind her moved closer. She could hear the sound of drumming in her ears and could not tell whose heartbeat it was. Her face was blushing and her heart was beating fast, but the person behind her was silent for a long time. She secretly regretted her own thoughts and didn't know when she fell asleep.
Time passed slowly and quickly, with bursts of firecrackers coming from outside the window. After washing up, Liu Yiner looked at the person still in bed and laughed. This person was like a child. He didn't get up after being called several times. Could it be that his soul had really been replaced by someone else?
Her shoulders were shaken again. Gu Wan opened her sleepy eyes. It was still dark outside the window. Seeing the person dressed up and waiting for her, she felt a little embarrassed. Finally, she bid farewell to Zhou Gong in tears, packed up, and went to her father-in-law's house with Yin'er.
Walking on the country road, greeting people who got up a hundred years earlier, and distributing the candies prepared by Yin'er to the children, Gu Wan felt peaceful and calm in his heart. It was so nice.
The sound of firecrackers seemed to never stop ringing in my ears. I remembered that in my previous life, because fireworks were banned in the city, the Spring Festival was quiet and dull, with few pedestrians on the streets, as if it were an empty city.
Look at this village hundreds of years ago. It was lively and festive because of the Spring Festival. People were running around to congratulate each other, and there was joy everywhere. What has the changing times brought, and what has it taken away?
