Chapter 27: Against All Odds

Over the next day, the [Scout] conducted reconnaissance in several areas marked on the civilization panel.

Lin Ke quickly locked onto a key area.

He discovered that not far from the northern pass, a group of barbarian troops were slowly approaching Holy Egypt.

Based on the intelligence that Kamul sent yesterday, Lin Ke took into account the urgency of the situation in Holy Egypt at this time, so he summoned all the ministers at dawn and went to the meeting hall of the royal palace for emergency consultations.

The atmosphere in the hall was heavy. Sunlight shone through the tall windows onto the golden stone pillars, but no one looked there.

Lin Ke sat on the high seat, his eyes swept among the ministers, his expression remained indifferent.

"Everyone."

Lin Ke slowly raised his hand and tapped the long table. The ministers who were originally talking in low voices immediately fell silent and all looked at him.

There seemed to be an invisible force pressing down in the air, causing everyone's backs to tense up involuntarily.

"According to the intelligence Kamul sent yesterday, the barbarian troops are about to arrive at the pass not far from the border of Holy Egypt. Their purpose is very clear - to support the Hebrews' siege operation."

Kamul stood aside and added: "These barbarians and reinforcements are mostly miscellaneous soldiers with simple equipment, but their numbers are not small."

"Once they are stationed at the pass, they will cut off our access to food from the north, and we will literally lose the main avenue for transporting food."

"If we want to get food, we can only transport it via small roads. Not only is the amount of food transported limited, but the speed is also extremely slow and it is easy for the Hebrews to discover and intercept it."

After Kamul finished speaking, several ministers began to speak.

First, an elderly minister raised his hand and gestured with a heavy tone.

"It would be too dangerous to send out troops rashly. If we mobilize troops at this time, will the Hebrews find out that we are anxious and fall into their trap?"

Another young official immediately took over the conversation: "Besides, our defense line still needs military strength. If we send more troops, the city defense may be weakened. If the Hebrews take advantage of the opportunity to invade, the main city of Holy Egypt will be in danger."

"We might as well wait for the barbarians to retreat on their own," said another. "These miscellaneous soldiers can't stay for long. As long as we hold our ground, they will naturally withdraw."

The participants were divided into two distinct factions, with one side advocating an immediate attack to defeat the barbarians before they could stabilize their position.

The other side appears to be more conservative, believing that any rash action might lead to falling into a Hebrew trap.

"What if they are just bait?" An elderly minister stepped forward and tapped the floor with his cane.

"If we go out of the city to fight, but find that the main force is lying in ambush behind us, then the defense of Holy Egypt will be empty and we will be finished."

Another young minister shook his head and retorted: "But we can't just sit there and do nothing! Are we going to just watch them station themselves on the edge of our territory?"

"Your Majesty the Holy Pharaoh! If we sit back and do nothing, these barbarians will completely become one of the forces used by the Hebrews to attack the city. By then, we won't even have a chance to fight back!"

Hearing this, the third minister frowned and looked worried.

"We can't just sit back and watch, but we can't send troops lightly either."

"If our troops suffer heavy casualties outside the city, the defense of Holy Egypt will be weakened. By then, even if the barbarians and Hebrews do not directly attack the city, we will not be able to hold out for long."

The atmosphere in the conference room began to become tense. The ministers talked at the same time but could not reach a consensus.

At this time, Prime Minister Kamul stood up calmly and swept his eyes across the faces of every minister present at the meeting, his eyes deep and calm.

"Everyone." He spoke in a low voice, his tone neither hurried nor slow, but it gradually calmed the discussions in the hall.

"What you said makes sense, but you only see the problem at hand."

His words caused a moment of silence among the crowd, and everyone's eyes were focused on him.

"Why should we defend?" Kamul looked around at everyone.

"Because we are afraid of losing troops and leaving our defense lines empty. But have you ever thought about how long we can hold on even if we can defend these walls in the short term?"

Kamul's tone gradually became heavier, and he continued: "If the Hebrews use these barbarians to participate in the siege in the future and surround us, then we will not even have a chance to fight back."

"What's more, these barbarians are just roaming soldiers. They don't have a strict command system. As long as we attack quickly and annihilate them, we can still gain the initiative on the battlefield for Holy Egypt."

Several ministers wanted to speak, but Kamul waved his hand.

"You are worried that casualties will weaken the defense of Holy Egypt."

"But the fact is that such casualties are inevitable. Even if we don't leave the city to meet the enemy and just stay behind the city walls, these enemies will sooner or later find a way to make us pay a greater price."

Several ministers wanted to continue arguing, but when they heard Kamul's words, the discussion gradually died down.

Several ministers who had originally had a tough attitude now relaxed their brows, and their eyes quietly changed from confrontation to contemplation.

From time to time, there were slight coughs and a few whispers of agreement among the crowd, and it was obvious that their attitude towards Kamul's proposal was quietly changing.

Although no one objected, the atmosphere in the hall became more solemn.

He paused for a moment, turned his gaze to Lin Ke, and raised his voice several times.

"Your Majesty the Holy Pharaoh has already considered all possible consequences! Even the worst-case scenario you mentioned!"

"Your Majesty the Holy Pharaoh gave me the order to defeat the barbarians yesterday. I am gathering everyone today so that we can work together, put aside our differences, and fight this battle to the end!"

These words were like the sound of a loud bell, causing the entire parliament hall to suddenly become quiet.

One of the ministers whispered, "Sure enough, His Majesty the Saint Pharaoh...has seen through everything!"

"Your Majesty the Holy Pharaoh's wisdom is beyond that of gods. We are truly ashamed to be making such outrageous remarks!" another person echoed.

Kamul looked calm and raised his arms: "Your Majesty's strategy has already been arranged. Now we have to execute it without hesitation."

"Whether it's offense or defense, Saint Pharaoh has already seen the overall situation, and I am just adding bricks and tiles to his strategy."

Lin Ke looked indifferent, he said nothing and made no movement in response.

Kamul withdrew his gaze and returned to his seat with a calm smile on his face.

The ministers did not argue anymore. They just looked at His Majesty the Holy Pharaoh with admiration and awe.

At this time, Lin Ke's throat moved up and down and he swallowed a mouthful of saliva.

I just wanted Kamul to kill a few barbarians, how come his level suddenly rose so high?

This is politics...
