"What?"
A divine mark could signify a chosen one by the gods.
What is the Holy Son? He is a candidate for the next Pope.
Phil Gray remembered that when he first arrived in the world of Vell, he saw a record of divine marks in the "Vell World Religious Overview". It was said that the god of the Food God Cult - the god of harvest and food - had once prophesied to the church at that time that a holy child bearing divine marks would be born. In the parish, a newborn baby was indeed found holding a wheat ear in his hand. This holy child later became the fourteenth pope of the Food God Cult.
He only treated it as a story at the time, never expecting that the mark would now appear on his own body!
And it's the mark of the Prophet of the Day!
But he really couldn't understand why the Prophet of the Day had chosen him as His Son, just because he had popularized astronomical knowledge for Him.
Patrick and Eli were also incredibly surprised, unable to comprehend such a thing. However, considering Phil Gray's rocket-like leveling speed and his status as the first Chosen One, it suddenly didn't seem so unexpected.
“How can you prove it? Show us your mark! What if the mark has deepened and you're lying to us?” Patrick said in a deep voice.
Vincent shook his head. "That won't work. I can't show you my markings."
"Why?" Phil Gray and the other two all looked at him with distrust.
“Because my mark is on my butt,” Vincent coughed, saying awkwardly.
He quickly took out a piece of paper from his storage space; the paper had the pattern marked on Phil Gray's hand.
“Look, this is the mark of the Prophet of the Day. I have no reason to lie to you. To be honest, I’m really shocked! Divine marks are given at birth, not appearing halfway through life like this.” Vincent frowned.
They looked at the pattern, and it was indeed exactly the same as the one on Phil Gray's wrist. There was also text explaining that it was indeed the mark of the White Prophet.
"Anyway, as long as it's not the previous tracking marker, it's fine." Phil Gray became a follower of the Day Prophet precisely to avoid being sensed by the upcoming Divine Elder.
As for the rest, it doesn't matter.
“No, it’s essentially still a tracking tag,” Vincent said.
"Hmph, you want to get beaten up, don't you?" Patrick threatened.
"Wait, listen to me, but it's not tracking the enemies of the Dawn Cult, but our Holy Son! When the elders arrive, they will definitely find you and bring you back to the Dawn Cult!"
Vincent looked at Phil Gray.
"Didn't you say you couldn't sense me? Perhaps the elders felt the same way."
"No, I was injured and my divine power was exhausted, so I couldn't sense you. But in the eyes of the elder who was at the level of a degenerate god, you are definitely the only and brightest star in the darkness. I'm sure that the elder had already sped up his journey here the moment your mark appeared!"
"Huh? Cousin, are you going to become a Holy Son of the Cult of Dawn?" Patrick's lips twitched.
Eli also gave a mysterious smile.
Vincent was unaware, but did they know that the person before them was the Pope of the Church of Destiny, and that the Church of Dawn wanted him to be their Holy Son?
“Why not? You are the holy son designated by the Prophet of the Day, and you broke through to the Listening level in just one day. I think you are very likely to become the next Pope of my church!” Vincent said hastily before Phil Gray could answer.
"If I become the Holy Son, won't you have one more competitor? Why do you seem so excited?" Phil Gray asked with a smile.
“No, I support anything that benefits the development of the Church.” Vincent’s gaze toward Phil Gray became fervent.
“We’ll talk about that later. Our priority right now is dealing with George. You should get some rest.” Phil Gray left the room. Vincent slumped onto the bed, muttering to himself, “How can someone be so favored by the gods!”
In the long corridor, everyone was surprised by this unexpected event.
"Hmm, I think you could become the Pope of the Church of Dawn, then eliminate the other Holy Sons, and become the ruler of both churches. Tsk tsk tsk." Eli really wanted to see such an interesting situation.
Phil Gray shook his head. "I'm currently traveling under the name Kane and wearing this mask, but I can't guarantee that I can hide my identity from the chosen ones of the Gods. I don't think they'll let me, the Pope of the Church of Destiny, become their Holy Son."
“That’s true, they might be able to see through your true identity.” Eli nodded.
"And it would also easily expose my identity as a chosen one of multiple gods. After all, many people in the Church of Fate know that I am already a chosen one of the God of Fate. In short, let's wait until that elder arrives before we talk about anything else." Phil Gray stopped thinking about these things.
The snow fell heavier and heavier, and they spent a quiet and peaceful night.
Ernest, who was monitoring George, reported to them that night. George was still in the inn and did not react to their departure, but simply waited quietly for his monster to be born.
As dawn broke and the first rays of morning sunlight pierced the air, a series of knocks on the door woke Phil Gray.
He opened the door, and two old men were standing outside.
One of them, wearing the robes of the Church of Dawn, must have been the elder of the Divine Descendant level that Vincent mentioned, while the other, wearing a light green robe, was also from the Church of Life.
It seems that the markers really guided them to their place of residence.
But they arrived way too fast. Phil Gray had thought they wouldn't arrive until this afternoon, given the long distance involved.
Phil Gray sized up the two old men before him. Their divine power was unfathomable, and he felt like an ant facing a giant mountain.
But they had kind faces and looked amiable.
The elder of the Cult of Dawn was surprised for a moment, then his eyes revealed excitement and eagerness. "The gods have brought me here, child. You should now have the mark of the Prophet of the Day on your body!"
“Ah, yes, but elders, now is not the time to discuss this. You should be stopping the birth of the Nightmare Monster as soon as possible!” Phil Gray said wearily.
How did you know?
"Elder Ge Lan!"
Two voices rang out simultaneously. Phil Gray saw the Holy Son push open the door and excitedly embrace the elder before him.
“Vincent, is this your friend? Did you tell him about the Nightmare Monster?” Glenn asked.
"No, it was he who discovered this conspiracy, Elder. He is the Holy Son chosen by the gods!" Vincent finally felt safe when he saw the familiar elder.
"Alright Vincent, are you injured? How's the matter of the bishop's body going?" Glenn infused Vincent with divine power, and Vincent's face, no longer pale, became rosy.
Although she was talking to Vincent, Glenn's eyes couldn't help but drift towards Phil Gray.
Phil Gray tensed for a moment when he heard him ask about the corpse.
“Ah, the bishop’s body has been found.” Vincent glanced at Phil Gray and replied, “It was done by the man who created the Nightmare Monster. He had the followers of the God of Death and the Goddess of Dreams among his men.”
Phil Gray was relieved and smiled.
