Jeremy breathed a sigh of relief. The black mist slid through the air like a snake, about to slip out of the room, but was blocked by Phil Gray, who was smiling beside him.
Golden flames enveloped Jeremy, rendering him immobile and leaving him only able to glare hatefully at the crowd.
Daisy trembled with fear when she saw Don turn around. Her mind was filled with that bloodied face and those murderous, crazed eyes.
Tang smirked and burst into laughter, "Miss Daisy! I've finally found you!"
He lunged forward, but was blocked by a golden light—Miss Caroline's solar shield.
"Don't pretend I don't exist, you wretched undead!" Miss Caroline glared at Tang. Without the boning knife, this guy didn't seem so scary anymore.
“Daisy, think carefully, what happened back then?” the man in black robes said, transferring some divine power to Daisy through the contract.
Daisy slowly calmed down from her state of shock, and her fear subsided somewhat. She slowly scanned the people around her, all of whom were unfamiliar faces.
But she realized that these were living people, not ghosts like herself.
She flinched, a few tears streaming from the corner of her eye, pointing at the ferocious spirit before her, painfully recalling the scene of her death.
"I discovered that he was making food from human flesh. I told the other passengers and the captain, and we put him on trial in the captain's cabin. As a result, there was a strange old man on the ship who turned him into a murderous monster. Under the old man's control, he killed all the passengers with a knife. I watched helplessly as many passengers turned into skeletons."
"The pain of being cut to death turned us all into resentful spirits, and that strange old man said he would offer us up to a lord in the Abyss of the Dead."
In desperation, Captain Jeremy hid in a hidden space in the captain's cabin and closed the entrance. We, however, had nowhere to escape, not even our souls. At the critical moment, it was my brother who guided us to use our soul power to merge with the ship, but he too vanished forever.
The strange old man had no choice but to leave, but we were forced to drift forever on these unfamiliar seas, our souls growing weaker with each passing day.
Daisy sighed, and her figure became faint, as if she might vanish at any moment.
"No wonder, no wonder I could sense you but couldn't find you! It turns out you've become part of the ship!" Tang frantically pounded on the solar shield, his body emitting white smoke as it was corroded by divine power, yet he still felt no pain as he tried to break through the shield.
"You demon!"
Daisy accused him through tears.
"A strange old man?" Viscount Ward asked with some doubt upon hearing Daisy's words. "He sounds like a follower of the god of death?"
“Yes.” Phil Gray nodded, surprised that Caroline had guessed correctly. However, Jesse was not offering a sacrifice to the God of Death, but to a lord of the Abyss of the Dead.
Wait a minute, didn't Eli mention before that Jesse made a pact with a lord of the Abyss of the Dead through some despicable means, thus gaining the ability to summon undead armies and becoming a famous necromancy master?
Phil Gray looked at Eli with a questioning gaze, but was startled by Eli's appearance.
Eli's forehead veins bulged, as if he was suppressing his anger.
"What's wrong?"
“Nothing,” Eli said through gritted teeth. “Jesse is a damn fool! How could he think that lord would like his cruel and worthless gift!”
From what I can tell, Eli knows this lord?
Phil Gray was secretly astonished; all signs indicated that Eli had a close relationship with the Church of the Dead.
What relationship could a follower of the God of Life have with the Church of the Dead?
"Alright, alright, don't be angry, he's already dead anyway," Phil Gray reassured him.
“Yes, he’s dead. His soul will surely go to the Abyss of the Dead. That lord won’t let him off so easily.” Eli’s expression softened a bit, as if he had thought of a scene that pleased him.
With so many people present, Phil Gray couldn't press for further details and could only hope that Eli would later tell him some of the things he had been hiding.
The truth of the matter has been revealed to everyone.
Phil Gray looked at the crazed Don and the silent Jeremy, and sighed.
"If we want to leave here, we should let those dead go back to where they belong, instead of getting lost in this vast sea with this black ship."
According to legend, the souls of the dead go to two places: one is the kingdom of the god of life, through which they enter a new cycle of life via the wheel of life under His control; the other is the abyss of the dead, ruled by the god of death, where they can retain their memories of their previous life but can only remain in the abyss, becoming spirits who can never see the sun.
Although becoming a spirit allows one to continue leveling up and even one day be summoned by the benefactors of the outside world to return to the mortal realm, most people would prefer to start a new life journey.
Most people have the opportunity to choose, and most followers of the god of the dead choose to stay by the side of the god of death they believe in, even if they can only become a skeleton or a ghost at first.
But how do we send these spirits, who have become one with the Black Shark, to where they belong?
Phil Gray looked at the others and voiced his question.
"prayer."
"prayer."
Eli and the man in black spoke at the same time, and the man in black gave Phil Gray a strange look, as if he was surprised that he needed to ask even this.
"The skill of helping the deceased is possessed by every pastor in the Church of the Dead and the Church of Life. Even if they are not God's chosen ones, they can influence the deceased through sincere prayer. If they are willing, they will directly follow the guides of God's Kingdom."
Eli seemed used to his boss's lack of common sense and patiently explained.
"Please, let this poor captain go to the kingdom of the God of Life!" Jeremy suddenly materialized into human form and pleaded in a pitiful tone. He was trapped in a circle of solar flames and could not escape.
"Ha, who are you trying to fool? You're the culprit behind all this! If it weren't for you, there wouldn't be these poor dead!" Caroline raised her eyebrows and said coldly.
"It's all time to end this."
Phil Gray said in a low voice, gesturing to Caroline.
Caroline nodded, understanding.
The sun's flames intensified, engulfing Tang, who was still breaking through the protective barrier.
"Burning!"
They simultaneously infused more divine power, and the soaring golden flames engulfed the spirits of Jeremy and Don.
On his own, the remaining divine power after using the Eye of Fate might not have been enough to burn the two undead to ashes, but with Caroline's help, it became possible.
"Ah! You damned bastards!"
"Daisy! Daisy, why don't you believe me? I...I love you!"
The painful struggles and howls gradually subsided, and the flames gradually died down. The ship's deck was clean; no remnants were left after the souls were burned.
Tang's last words drew disdain from everyone present. They no longer wanted to discuss the authenticity of his affection, since no normal person could dissect their beloved to the bone and continue to haunt her even after her death.
"Get some rest." The man in black took out a cloth bag and put Daisy back inside.
"Wait, you should also let Daisy choose whether to go into reincarnation or follow you!" Caroline tried to stop her, but it was too late.
