The man in black robes said sarcastically, "This is the spirit I contracted with. Why should I let her go? I helped you, and now you want to send me to meet my god?"
His eyes were somewhat gloomy, and he seemed quite dissatisfied.
“No, we are very grateful that you chose to release Captain Jeremy at the crucial moment and told us about Miss Daisy. Well, we should deal with the other undead on the ship.” Phil Gray pulled past Caroline and returned a polite smile to the man in black.
"Hmph, I've already lost the opportunity to strengthen myself by contracting so many undead, and I haven't even said anything yet. Get out of here, all of you! Don't even think about me helping with the exorcism of the dead!"
The man in black robes turned his back, not wanting to say another word, and showing no interest in their next move.
Viscount Ward chuckled, picked up his sword, and left first. He needed to check if the people in the storage room were alright.
Phil Gray and Eli also took Caroline away. They planned to sort through the bones found in the cabins and then, through devout prayer, send the passengers of the Blacktooth Shark who died a year ago, as well as the passengers of Gold Coin III who had just been slaughtered by Tang, to their next journey.
The vast ocean should not be their final resting place.
...
"Okay, that's all."
Caroline rubbed her sore arms. Even though she was a chosen one with good physical fitness, she shouldn't have been made to carry so many boxes.
On the other hand, the blue-eyed gentleman next to me, who clearly wasn't a member of the Church of Life or the Church of the Dead, seemed to be studying prayers with great enthusiasm.
They even assigned this kind of physically demanding work to me.
Caroline rolled her eyes inwardly.
The boxes contained skeletons found in each cabin, which she had now neatly collected and gathered in the captain's cabin, taking up almost a third of the space. Fortunately, there were enough boxes in the storage room.
"Miss Caroline, you've worked so hard! Quickly, Mr. Eli, please help these spirits get to God's Kingdom! We really want to rest for a while!" the captain, forced to steer the Black Shark, said with distress.
Although Jeremy and Don's spirits have vanished, they are still controlled by a mysterious force. It seems that only by freeing the spirits that are integrated with the ship can they be freed as well.
"Okay, how was it? Did you learn it?" Eli held a green scripture in his hand, which was the Bible of the Church of Life—"The Source of Life".
"Even if he learns it, it's useless, isn't it? He's not a pastor of the Church of Life, is he?" Caroline Tu complained.
"Don't worry about that. You can go out now. I'll help Eli out," Phil Gray said with a smile.
"Alright, you'll definitely succeed." Caroline gave an expectant smile and then closed the door to the captain's cabin.
Eli glanced at Phil Gray. "Let's begin!"
Two different voices rang out; Eli's voice was clear, while Phil Gray's voice was somewhat muffled.
"The most merciful and compassionate God of Life"
Please grant them your grace.
They are trapped here, forgotten by the wheel of life.
They pleaded desperately, seeking a way to liberation.
We offer you our purest faith and most devout worship.
We will follow your will and guidance.
We will spread your teachings and grace.
May the god of life live forever!
May the wheel of life never stop turning!
Phil Gray wasn't reciting the prayers of the Church of Life, but rather those of the Church of the Dead. He had already guessed that his partner, who was so familiar with the Church of the Dead, couldn't possibly be unaware of the prayers of the God of Death.
Although Eli could perform the ritual alone, the advice given to him by the god of death, Vino, was to bury the lost souls. What if He didn't participate in the salvation of these souls and then denied it?
But fearing that the captain and crew of Gold Coin Three would overhear and expose his identity as a Chosen One, he could only lower his voice:
"O God of Death, heed our fearful cry!"
You are the ruler of the Abyss of the Dead, the guardian of the Gates of Death.
Grant these wandering souls your majesty and power.
Let them be guided into the abyss of the dead.
Make them submit to you, and make them your servants and subjects.
Let them experience your boundless majesty and glory.
We offer you our most loyal obedience and our most respectful submission.
May the god of death be forever revered!
May the abyss of the dead never perish!
Accompanied by a uniquely rhythmic prayer, black mist continuously emerged from the hull of the Black Shark, gathering in the captain's cabin and gradually coalescing into shadows. There were noble ladies with golden hair in buns and wearing feathered hats, gentlemen in black suits holding canes, and church priests in various robes. Their empty eyes cleared at this moment, their faces showing a mixture of sorrow and joy, but ultimately turning into the ease of impending liberation.
"You are free. May you find new life in the afterlife or in the abyss!"
Phil Gray looked at the departed souls with a warm smile and offered his blessings.
As soon as he finished speaking, two beams of light, one green and one black, suddenly appeared. In the green beam, one could vaguely see flowers blooming and grass lining the path, while in the black beam, one could glimpse the ghostly blue flames of souls and bricks paved with white bones.
“Normally, you can’t see this guiding beam of light; it can only be seen when a soul leaves its body.” Eli felt the rich divine aura that was of the same origin as him, and a hint of amazement appeared in his eyes. This was the first time he had transcended so many undead, and the first time he had seen such a scene.
One by one, the spirits went to where they were meant to go. Most chose to restart their lives at the Wheel of Life, while a few went to the Abyss of the Dead.
As the last undead departed and the beam of light disappeared, the entire Black Shark began to shake violently, and the surrounding scenery became indistinct.
Phil Gray was momentarily disoriented. He shook his head, trying to stay awake, but when he opened his eyes again, he found himself no longer in the captain's cabin of the Blacktooth Shark.
Is this back on Gold Coin 3?
Phil Gray looked around and saw Eli and Viscount Ward standing beside him, as well as the fat first mate with a shocked expression.
And of course, there's the body on the deck with one hand missing.
He breathed a sigh of relief; they were finally back.
“I knew you would succeed, but unfortunately, I was just about to beat up a nasty fellow! Who would have thought we’d end up back where we started?” Viscount Ward walked over and used the tip of his sword to push the charred black hand that had fallen from the deck back next to the corpse. “Heh, this cook is really a menace, even his remaining body is attacking an innocent person like me.”
"What bad luck! I wonder which crew member pulled him ashore. If they hadn't pulled him ashore, we might not have run into all that trouble." The fat man muttered, looking at Tang's body with disgust. "I've decided, I won't bring him ashore. Let him rest in the sea."
With a thud, Tang's body was kicked off Gold Coin Number Three by the fat man.
The fat man bent down and wiped his shoes with a handkerchief, then continued, "By the way, just now in the Black Shark's storage room, many passengers discussed with me whether we could return to port if we escaped the predicament. I also agree that we should go back and rest before setting off again. Most of these passengers heading to Malu Island are going to do business or missionary work, and they don't have any urgent business. Our Commercial Church is just going to buy some things. What are your opinions?"
"Return to base?" Phil Gray's heart sank.
