Chapter 97 Temporary Rest

That's true. The passengers here have survived a near-death experience, so they have no intention of going to Malu Island, especially since more than a dozen passengers have died. They can't just take those corpses with them on the road. But they are going to find Patrick, so they can't just turn back.

"Yes, my current plan is to go back and bury the deceased first, then rest for a few days before setting off again. Of course, next time I won't charge any of the passengers for their tickets." The fat man chuckled.

“Hmph, that won’t do. We’re on the King’s orders to go to Malu Island to apprehend criminals. The Black Shark was already delayed by a day. Are we going to go back and rest before setting off again? Those counterfeit tobacco dealers have already made a fortune off other places with their fake goods.” Viscount Ward glanced at the fat man, sheathed his sword, and said with some dissatisfaction.

"But, but we can't just think of you when it comes to all the passengers! What are we supposed to do with the dead passengers, the bloody remains?" the fat man stammered, looking distressed.

"I don't care. Surely the Commercial Church can handle this little thing? Anyway, this ship has to continue along the original route and reach Malu Island as soon as possible. Alright, I have to go deal with that disobedient guy." Viscount Ward said a few words, ignoring the fat man's distressed look behind him, and walked towards the cabin.

"Oh dear, it's true, none of these nobles know how to be considerate of others. If it weren't for making money, our Commercial Church wouldn't bother with these nobles," the fat man muttered under his breath.

“But doesn’t most of your money come from them?” Eli patted the fat man on the shoulder. “I have an idea. You should still have many ships that haven’t set sail yet, right? Gold Coin No. 5? No. 6? Send one ship to pick up those who want to return and the bodies of the deceased, and the remaining passengers can continue towards Malu Island.”

After thinking for a moment, the fat man slapped his thigh and showed a delighted expression. "You're right, that's definitely the way to go. We can wait here for a few days and then call another ship to pick up these returning passengers. Of course, that ship can't be empty either; it can also pick up some passengers going to Malu Island along the way. Then those passengers can board our Gold Coin No. 3 and set off together, and we can collect the cost of another leg of the journey."

As expected of people from the business world, they still managed to make money even under these circumstances.

Phil Gray found it somewhat amusing, but thankfully it was a solution; otherwise, if Viscount Ward had forced the current passengers to continue to the island, who knows what conflicts might have arisen along the way.

"Alright, I'll go discuss it with the captain and then inform everyone." The fat man said, heading towards the captain's cabin.

"Wait a minute," Eli called out to him, a half-smile playing on his lips.

"What's wrong?"

“Hey, pay up the promised reward before you leave,” Eli pointed to his leg, the scar a reminder that the fat man still owed him medical bills.

"Oh, of course, of course I'll honor the promise. But I don't have that much money on me. I'll get it for you from your room. You go to the restaurant first, and I'll tell them that all the food on Gold Coin No. 3 is free for you. Come on, let's go together?" the fat man promised generously.

Phil Gray and Eli followed the fat man to the restaurant on the second floor. The sudden change from the simple and heavy style of the Blacktooth Shark to the luxurious Gold Coin III was somewhat disorienting.

Crystal chandeliers illuminated the painted floor, and melodious music echoed throughout the restaurant. Groups of two or three people took out exquisite and sumptuous dishes from the glass cabinets. Having just experienced a day and a night of hunger and fear, only food could soothe their weary souls at this moment.

The fat man spoke a few words with the waiter in the restaurant, then said to Phil Gray and Eli, "Alright, you two rest here for a while, I'll go find the captain."

"Um."

“This guy keeps his promises.” Eli casually found a seat and pulled out a chair for Phil Gray.

"Businessmen must, of course, value integrity."

With the waiter's warm hospitality, Phil Gray was served some cakes, dried fruit, and roast meat, and then sat down.

To be honest, he was starving too.

After finishing his meal, he casually glanced around and saw a familiar face opposite him.

“Hi! Miss Caroline!” Phil Gray waved.

"Oh, you're here too. I was just looking for you."

Caroline walked over, pulled up a chair, and sat down. "You've chosen so much food, are you sure you can finish it all?"

"What is it? Let's get down to business." Eli smiled and pushed a small cake towards her.

"Do you remember those crates containing the remains of passengers on the Blacktooth Shark?" Caroline's face fell.

"What's wrong?"

"Just as we all returned to Gold Coin Number Three, those boxes came back, and they're all piled up in my room! I almost got hit, but luckily I reacted quickly," Caroline said, patting her chest with relief. She then asked, "What should we do with those boxes? The undead should all have gone to the realm of the gods by now, right?"

“Yes, the ritual for the deceased is over. As for these remains, a ship will come to pick them up soon and take them back,” Phil Gray replied, also telling her about the fat man’s discussion with them.

He suddenly thought of the prophecy of the god of death. The reason he hadn't been prompted to complete the prophecy yet was probably because these remains hadn't been properly disposed of.

"Oh, then I won't be turning back. I haven't finished the task the bishop assigned me." Caroline ate her cake as she listened, then wiped her mouth. "There are still a few companions on Malu Island waiting for me to go and support them."

"Oh? What happened to them?" Phil Gray became somewhat interested. After all, he was considered a future Holy Son of the Cult of Dawn, so it wasn't unreasonable for him to care about the believers.

"It's nothing, just a dispute over missionary work. You know, Malu Island is very chaotic. There are relatively backward villages and towns, as well as large plantations and some strange little tribes. The beliefs are not unified. Our Dawn Church has a small church there, but it was burned down last month by an unknown local gang. Several priests were even beaten to death, so the Vatican sent me to check on it." Caroline explained somewhat awkwardly. Who would have thought that someone would dare to burn down the Dawn Church's small church?

After all, the Cult of Dawn is one of the top religions in the world of Vil.

"Sending only a girl like you? I don't quite understand your bishop's thinking." Eli asked, somewhat puzzled.

With Malu Island in such chaos, aren't you worried about her safety? After all, even the church was burned down.
