The Skeleton Lord took a few steps down, but instead of coming to Phil Gray, he gestured for the three of them to sit in an empty seat on the side, while he stopped in front of the newly born undead in the middle.
These are a group of undead who are skeletons on the outside but no different from humans on the inside. Their spirit fires burn with emotions: fear of the unknown and excitement for the life to come, as well as nostalgia and reluctance to leave the past.
To become a true undead, one must renounce everything from the past; otherwise, human emotions will make it unbearable for them to endure the long life and endless darkness in the abyss.
Leopold sat down first, and the surrounding guests nodded to him. Frank followed him down, while Phil Gray sat next to Frank. On the other side sat a real vampire, whose blood-red eyes stared at him with interest.
Phil Gray maintained a polite smile throughout.
"Everything in the mortal realm is now in the past. Whatever your reasons for choosing to become skeletons and children of the God of Death, we in the City of Ten Thousand Bones warmly welcome you. Now, I will personally present you with your residence permits for the Abyss of the Dead. From this day forward, you are the true inhabitants of the Abyss!"
After the Skeleton Lord finished speaking, all the undead turned their gazes away from Phil Gray and looked at the newly born skeletons. However, some eyes remained on him. Phil Gray looked back, and the undead raised their cups and smiled at him, their meaning ambiguous.
Is this really so humane? Hasn't it already eliminated all human emotions? Phil Gray seemed to be deep in thought.
There weren't many newborn skeletons, only about thirty. Some of them were incredibly excited, while others pretended to cover their faces and cry, but there were no tears left in their pale skulls and dark blue eye sockets.
However, having chosen to remain in the abyss, the emotions within their spirit fire were primarily courage and a devout faith in the god of death.
Phil Gray tried his best to find the passenger he and Eli had performed the ritual for that day, but the almost identical skeleton made it impossible for him to recognize him.
There was a skeleton watching him the whole time; it could be one of the passengers, or it could just be a newborn skeleton that was interested in him.
A row of skeleton soldiers stood before the newly born undead, bowed to their lord, and presented each of them with a bone ring.
Phil Gray glanced at Leopold before realizing that the bone ring the homeowner had given him earlier might be this man's proof of abode in the Abyss.
No wonder he would definitely accept the summons after the sacrifice. Although he has reached a position of importance that the lord values him so highly, he probably doesn't need any residency permit anymore.
But for these newly reborn spirits, the residence permit is an acknowledgment of their identity.
“Hehehe, if you ask me, it must have been your lord who was lazy back then and didn’t completely remove your attachment to the human world when the gods descended, which is why you want to come to the human world.” Leopold said in a low voice to the homeowner Frank.
Frank merely snorted, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.
Phil Gray watched silently as the Skeleton Lord returned to his throne, his golden scepter tapping lightly on the ground.
"Now, as the lord of Ten Thousand Bones City in the Northern Region, I respectfully invite the God of Death to descend, hoping that you can guide this newborn undead."
Just then, a black light descended from the sky, illuminating the skeleton lord's back. A tall, black figure slowly appeared in the sight of the undead. His entire body was shrouded in black mist, and his face was obscured by shadows, with only a pair of deep, dark eyes visible.
This is the god of death, the ruler of the abyss of the dead, the terminator of all things.
His appearance caused all the dead to kneel down, whispering words of praise. Phil Gray also slowly knelt down to avoid becoming the target of everyone's hatred.
His heart was pounding, and he tried to calm himself down, because his heartbeat was too conspicuous in front of a group of undead.
However, faced with the pressure from the gods, even though he was only a consciousness, he could not suppress the excitement in his heart.
What exactly are the gods?
He felt the gaze of the god of death sweep over him, but he was not afraid. Instead, he felt a strange sense of familiarity. He was also a favorite of the god of death, although he was also a favorite of other gods.
The God of Death's gaze finally settled on the newly born dead, and He spoke in a cold yet steady voice: "Welcome to the Abyss. I am the God of Death, your god and protector. You have abandoned everything in the mortal world and chosen to walk with me, seeking eternal life in the darkness."
This is a difficult and lonely path, but also a path full of glory and wisdom. You must obey my laws, follow my commands, and not betray my will.
You must discard the emotions that are uniquely human within you, whether it be fear or love... These are human weaknesses that will cause you to lose yourself and be unable to withstand the trials of the abyss.
You must guide your actions with calmness and reason, and sustain your souls with loyalty and faith. Only then can you become true spirits of the dead.
After saying this, the Skeleton Lord moved his hand. It must have been the projection of the God of Death that was controlling the Skeleton Lord. He drew a symbol in the air and then waved to the newly born undead.
A black current of energy emanated and drifted toward the skulls of the newly born undead.
The newly born dead felt a sense of relief, as if something had been expelled from their souls.
They were immersed in the divine power of the god they worshipped, feeling some of their emotions gradually disappear from their souls, fear and dread becoming a thing of the past, and all attachment to the human world vanishing completely.
The fire in their eyes shone brighter, but it did not become empty and cold; instead, it became more adapted to the darkness of the abyss and their new identity as undead.
They will be more in line with the characteristics of skeletons: brave, fearless, and immortal.
"Praise be to God! Thank you for your blessings!"
Amidst the chants of praise, the black figure gradually faded away, and the Skeleton Lord returned to his normal state, though he appeared somewhat weak. He sat on his throne and said, "I hope you will always remember this day. The gods will love all of you dead equally, and you should always be loyal to Him."
The newly born skeletons shone with unwavering resolve in their spiritual flames.
Phil Gray was still replaying the scene in his mind when he saw the Skeleton Lord raise his glass to all the distinguished guests and say, "For this one day only, let us enjoy the delicacies from the mortal world! Cheers, guests from all corners of the earth!"
Phil Gray picked up his glass, but then he saw the vampire sitting next to him lick his lips and look at him. "How can the taste of wine compare to the taste of blood?"
