Chapter 8 Confrontation and Rebellion

“I should have done it myself,” Wendell sighed. “But at the time, I wanted to take the opportunity to frame the plague creators.”

“The Church of the Dead was involved.” Valk Dodd examined the corpses of the dead knight and the female monster.

“That knight beside the Pope is no ordinary man. The men left behind by the former Pope are indeed not so easy to deal with.” A flash of white light appeared in Wendell’s hand, and the corpse and signs of the fight disappeared, as if the whole place had never been there.

"Has Your Excellency broken through to the Divine Descent realm?" Valck Dodd asked.

“It’s not that easy. I’ve just recently gotten a feel for things.” Wendell sounded somewhat smug.

"Haha, no wonder His Excellency the Bishop chose this time to take action against the Pope." Valck Dodd laughed heartily.

"Finding the Pope is the most important thing right now..."

The sound faded into the distance, and Phil Gray and Wilder watched as their figures disappeared completely before reappearing a while later.

Luce Wilder coughed up blood.

Phil Gray quickly helped him up, and the moment he touched Wilder's body, he shuddered as if he had touched a corpse.

How are you?

Luce Wilder waved his hand, declining his offer of help, "I'm fine. My level is only at the 'Attention' level; I'm no match for them."

“What should we do?” Phil Gray asked.

If we go back to the Vatican, wouldn't we be walking into a trap?

“Go to the Grey family. The current patriarch is your uncle. The Grey family is one of the oldest families in the Church of Destiny. They have produced several popes and have many high-ranking divine favored individuals. He will help you.” Wilder said, shaking his bell. Immediately afterward, a skeletal horse crawled out of the ground.

Phil Gray didn't even have time to admire him before Wilder pulled him onto the horse.

The skeleton horse galloped wildly, moving at a speed that seemed to fly. Phil Gray was so dizzy from the jolting that he gripped the horse's bones tightly with both hands.

"Are you alright?" Wilder asked.

“I… um…” Phil Gray was too upset to speak.

Wilder laughed, "Since you're alright, I'll speed things up!"

Phil Gray rolled his eyes.

The skeletal horse leaped into the air and galloped wildly through the sky.

Fortunately, it's already dark and there's no moonlight, so the people below shouldn't be able to see this scene.

"That's amazing!" Phil Gray exclaimed, feeling both distressed and impressed.

Phil Gray was very nervous on the way. He didn't know what the relationship was between the Gray family and the original owner of the body, nor did he know whether the so-called uncle would recognize that he was not the original owner of the body.

“We’re almost there,” Luce Wilder said.

"So fast!" Phil Gray had just gotten used to the speed of the skeleton horse when it leaped to the ground, and he was so jolted that he almost threw up.

However, at that moment, a sword flashed, and the skeleton horse was cleaved in two. Phil Gray fell to the ground, while Wilder jumped down with lightning speed.

Standing before them was none other than Valcke Dodd.

"You really did come here."

Phil Gray's heart tightened, and ignoring his own pain, he rushed to Wilder's side.

Oh no, I'm just one step away from dying here.

"Are you a member of the Church of the Dead? Don't get involved in my Church of Fate." Valcke Dodd pointed his sword directly at Wilder.

Wilder didn't speak, but shook the bell to summon the dozen or so skeletons.

"Why did you betray me?" Phil Gray asked angrily.

"What makes an ordinary person worthy of becoming the Pope? Four years ago, we thought your father had left a backup plan and dared not act rashly, but now we have no such concerns." Valck Dodd laughed heartily as he looked at him.

"Aren't you afraid of the Grey family?"

"The Church of Destiny is not just the Gray family; other families have long harbored resentment towards you as Pope."

If you were already dissatisfied, you should have acted sooner. Why did you have to wait until I transmigrated before you took action?

Phil Gray silently grumbled to himself, tears welling in his eyes.

"Aren't you afraid of divine punishment from the god of fate?" He stared intently at Valcke Dodd.

"You are not even one of the chosen ones, so why would the god of fate punish us, the devout chosen ones, for your sake?" Valck Dodd sneered, seemingly confident of victory, and didn't hesitate to say more. "When an ordinary person becomes the pope, our church becomes a laughing stock among other churches. The former pope was indeed powerful, but he shouldn't have considered the church as his own and allowed his son, someone who isn't even one of the chosen ones, to become the pope!"

As he spoke, he drew his sword and slashed.

A dozen skeletons surrounded him, but they were as easy as tofu to face Valk Dodd, and were cut into pieces in an instant.

Luce Wilde coughed up another mouthful of blood.

But he still charged forward with his staff.

"Overestimating yourself!" Valcke Dodd scoffed.

"The shackles of fate!"

Luce Wilder's body was instantly bound by a white chain, and he frowned.

Black mist gradually swirled around his body, and his skin began to rot. Then his entire body turned into pieces of corpse and broke free from the chains.

"You've got some skill, but there's a qualitative difference between the 'Attention-Level' and the 'Divine Revelation' level!" Valk Dodd's greatsword slashed towards Wilder.

Wilder's body had just recovered from its decaying state when Valcke Dodd's sword struck his shoulder, severing his arm.

Phil Gray was startled, but as an ordinary person, there was nothing he could do.

Luce Wilder paid no attention to his severed arm. He raised his black staff with his other hand, and another row of skeletons appeared, surrounding Valcke Dodd.

He stepped back to Phil Gray's side, handed him something, and whispered, "I'll summon a magic circle in a moment. Stand on it immediately, and I'll teleport you to a safe place."

"good."

Phil Gray took it, and it turned out to be a blue gemstone bracelet!

What's this?

Wilder charged at Valcke Dodd again.

He had already dealt with the skeletons he had just summoned, and he seemed to want to finish the battle quickly. His moves became even more ferocious, with flashes of white light accompanying his maniacal laughter, "Spear of Destiny!"

A white spear pierced Wilder's chest.

“No!” Phil Gray shouted.

Just then, he saw Wilder wink at him.

Then he pulled out the spear, and blood gushed out.

He shouted, "God of Death above, with my life as the catalyst, I summon the passage to death!"

The dripping blood, accompanied by black mist, looked incredibly sinister and eerie.

As blood and black mist fell to the ground, a strange magic circle appeared directly on the ground. Phil Gray, disregarding his concern for Wilder, hurriedly stepped onto it.

All of this happened in the blink of an eye. Valker Dodd didn't even have time to intervene. The magic circle activated instantly, a flash of black light, and Phil Gray disappeared before his eyes.
