dispute
Jiang Yufan didn't know why this situation had occurred. She hadn't changed her own blood or falsified anything, and there was nothing she could do about it. However, in Jiang Yaoguang's eyes, it was all Jiang Yufan's doing on purpose.
They knocked on Jiang Yufan's door late at night, making a huge scene. All the monks living in the backyard came out to check on them, and everyone watched their argument. It was a rare confrontation. Even the Bodhisattva who brought such prosperous incense offerings to Chenxiang Temple had his own unresolved entanglements. It shows that life is full of suffering, everyone has troubles, and everyone wants to make demands.
When Gu Sidu arrived, it was already too late. Dao Yun's sword was already positioned between the two of them. They could not remain in this stalemate, so Gu Sidu turned to find the abbot of the temple. Only the abbot could give them a clear path and resolve their current predicament.
The abbot understands why Jiang Yurong is so unable to adapt and is experiencing vomiting and diarrhea. Jiang Yaoguang doesn't trust Jiang Yufan, but he will definitely trust the abbot.
As expected, Gu Sidu's intuition was correct. As soon as the abbot arrived, Jiang Yaoguang's anger subsided considerably. With tears in his eyes, he looked at the abbot and shouted, "Abbot, please save my child! He won't live much longer. Someone is trying to frame him. How could someone in Chenxiang Temple have such thoughts? You must do something about it!"
"You have such a foul mouth! You just spout nonsense the moment you open your mouth." Daoyun said angrily, "What do you mean by 'plotting to harm someone'? If we Buddhist nuns really had the intention to harm someone, would we also want to harm ourselves?"
"I don't know, it might just be an act."
The phrase "shameless" best encapsulates Jiang Yaoguang's behavior. Dao Yun never expected that after so many years, she would once again witness the shamelessness of the person before her. Too lazy to say anything more, she simply grabbed the sword in her hand; only force could silence someone.
Jiang Yufan was numb. Every word Jiang Yaoguang said made her not want to say anything more. She looked at the abbot, her eyes searching for the truth.
“Benefactor, your disturbance is so great that even the monks cannot sleep. Such behavior is far too noisy. As the abbot, I must protect the peace of Chenxiang Temple. Therefore, once your son’s condition improves, please leave Chenxiang Temple immediately.”
The abbot waved his hand, dismissing the monks who had gathered to watch the commotion, and asked Jiang Yaoguang to lead the way, as he wanted to see what was wrong with Jiang Yurong. Jiang Yaoguang, having nothing more to say, readily agreed and urged the abbot to go and check on her immediately.
He apologized for his rudeness, but he didn't apologize for Jiang Yufan.
He stopped Jiang Yufan just as she was about to follow, saying, "What are you doing here? You're not allowed to come."
Jiang Yaoguang still believed that he was Jiang Yufan's father, at least at this moment.
It wasn't Jiang Yufan who did anything wrong. Jiang Yufan did nothing, yet she was labeled with such a accusation, as if she was the one who did Jiang Yurong's things, and that she had malicious intentions.
Gu Sidu had long wanted to stand by Jiang Yufan's side, but he also knew that in this vast sea of people, he needed to do something else for Jiang Yufan at this moment. He comforted Jiang Yufan, saying, "It's alright, I'll go and see for you. You should go back first. You're not well, you can't withstand such a cold."
Jiang Yufan understood Gu Sidu's feelings, so she nodded and didn't insist on going together.
Daoyun stayed by Jiang Yufan's side. Someone always needed to be with Jiang Yufan. Daoyun didn't care about those things at all. She still wanted to make some nourishing soup for Jiang Yufan.
"Buddha, let's go back."
Jiang Yufan nodded. With Gu Sidu watching over her, it was good that she didn't go to such places. She didn't want to see the people she hated most there again.
No sooner had they returned to their room than someone brought a freshly made soup to Jiang Yufan's room. It was still warm, containing red dates to replenish qi and blood, and a black-boned chicken. These were things that couldn't be served in a temple where killing was forbidden, and it was easy to guess who had sent it.
Daoyun glanced at Jiang Yufan. The soup was good, but Jiang Yufan might not accept it. She said to the person who brought the soup, "We Buddhist nuns don't drink this. Please take it back."
"The lady instructed us that we cannot take these back, regardless of whether the Bodhisattva accepts them or not. These soups are excellent, and we cannot kill animals in the temple, but she can. Bodhisattva, please accept them; they will help you recover faster."
The soup was brought so that Jiang Yufan could recover faster and so that bloodletting could continue.
Not wanting to make things difficult for the servants, Jiang Yufan said, "Alright, I'll accept it. You can go back now."
Daoyun accepted the soup, thanked the person, and ladled out a steaming bowl of soup, handing it to Jiang Yufan. She tasted it first to make sure it was not poisonous before speaking: "Buddha, whether it's good or bad, please drink it. It's always good for you. It hurts me to see so much blood flowing out."
Dao Yun felt sorry for them, but the people who should feel sorry for them didn't; they had other people to care for.
"Why not drink this soup?" Jiang Yufan smiled and took a small sip. Sure enough, it tasted just like before, warming her body and gradually giving her strength. At Daoyun's urging, she drank a bowl, finally forgetting the tormenting pain.
"Is it good?"
She nodded and said to Daoyun, "It tastes good. I used to drink it often when I was a child, but I haven't had it since."
Jiang Yufan's face fell. She used to be the happiest person in the world. Her parents loved and doted on her. She was not very healthy when she was young, and her mother took care of her just like she was taking care of Jiang Yurong now.
Since there was nothing else to do that night, Jiang Yufan asked Yun if he wanted to hear a story.
The wounds on her hands also needed to be dressed. Daoyun nodded. It would be much better to vent these things. She was willing to listen.
It's a long story, but it can be explained in a few words. When Jiang Yufan was a child, she was very weak and had a persistent high fever. No matter how much medicine she took, it didn't work. Her mother held her and cried bitterly, stroking her cheeks again and again to wipe her fever down. Her father, listening to others, tried every method he could think of, calling her name throughout the mansion, hoping that the ghosts and spirits would let her go and allow Jiang Yufan to come home.
Jiang Yaoguang had done such things before. He had also shouted himself hoarse for his child, but that was all in the past.
Now, Jiang Yufan looked at her younger brother lying in bed, and realized how good her parents had been to him—the same way they had treated her before. She understood the happiness she had once experienced, but now, this very happiness pierced her heart with a sharp pain.
"I really didn't expect that Jiang Yaoguang used to treat you so sincerely." Daoyun shook his head. It's just a pity that he has become such a stubborn and heartless person.
"Fame and fortune are truly man-eating monsters; they devour people."
"This pursuit of fame and fortune, the glorification of one's family, can drive people mad, making them willing to give up everything." Jiang Yufan smiled mockingly. In order to become a meritorious member of the Jiang family, her father had given her a distinct scar, and this was only the beginning.
"People are all the same."
Jiang Yufan had already seen through it all.
But Gu Sidu's voice came from outside the door: "Not everyone is the same. I'm different from others."
Jiang Yufan looked at Gu Sidu and said to him, "Let's come inside and talk. How are things on their end?"
"Why didn't the Bodhisattva wait for me to come before changing the dressing?" Gu Sidu breathed on his hands. "My hands are warm, they won't get cold."
"Are my hands cold?" Dao Yun glared at Gu Sidu with annoyance. "Only Lord Gu cares about the Bodhisattva, while no one else does. Is that what Lord Gu means?"
That's not what I meant. Gu Sidu just wanted to get closer to the Bodhisattva as soon as possible. Gu Sidu smoothed things over and came to Jiang Yufan's side, holding Jiang Yufan's hand and examining it carefully: "Miss Daoyun is very thoughtful. The medicine on the Bodhisattva's wrist has been changed very well. I am very relieved."
"Let's not talk about that," Jiang Yufan withdrew her arm. "What did the abbot say? Why is Jiang Yurong vomiting and having diarrhea?"
"The abbot said that the blood of others flowed into their own spleen and stomach along with the medicine. They didn't eat anything and needed to adapt, which is why this situation occurred. There's no need to worry about it. Just take good care of them and accompany them through the adaptation period. There won't be any major problems later."
“You mean,” Daoyun paused, “that Jiang Yurong is like this because they didn’t take good care of him and didn’t feed him properly, which is why he has this problem.”
"That's right," Gu Sidu nodded.
"But they completely blamed the Buddha Maiden. They made her lose face. No, I have to go find them. I have to make them come back and apologize to the Buddha Maiden!" Dao Yun said, standing up to go find them.
Jiang Yufan knew that going there would be pointless and futile. Their hearts were all with Jiang Yurong; whether Jiang Yufan had been wronged was irrelevant. All they wanted was for Jiang Yurong to survive.
But they couldn't stop Daoyun. She had already walked out the door but then turned back. Under the watchful eyes of Gu Sidu and Jiang Yufan, she said, "I'll go return the soup bowl and have them apologize to me."
Jiang Yufan looked at Dao Yun's figure and sighed.
“She will definitely come back angry,” Jiang Yufan said. “Are they taking care of her every step of the way?”
“Yes, they probably won’t be able to sleep tonight,” Gu Sidu stood up and said to Jiang Yufan, “Bodhisattva, it’s getting late. You should get some sleep tonight and not worry about these things. You haven’t done anything wrong.”
"I won't bother the Bodhisattva any longer. If there's anything you need, just have Daoyun come to me. I'll come whether I'm asleep or not."
After saying all this, Gu Sidu felt that he still had something to say, so he added a few more words: "Really, not all men in the world will die for fame and fortune. If I were to choose fame and fortune, I would choose a Bodhisattva, not anything else."
Gu Sidu once again expressed his loyalty to Jiang Yufan.
Jiang Yufan didn't care about any of this. Whether Gu Sidu was that kind of person or not was none of her business. She was like a boat adrift, and she couldn't stay for someone.
She knew she was destined to wander for the rest of her life, and she knew Gu Sidu wouldn't listen to any of that. She simply nodded, urging Gu Sidu to hurry back. It was good that the Jiang family was alright; otherwise, she wouldn't have peace again. Now that Daoyun had returned, the day was over.
Daoyun returned quickly. As soon as she got back, she drank three large glasses of water. Still not satisfied, she sat there angrily, pounding her chest.
It was as if they had suffered a tremendous injustice.
"What's wrong?" Jiang Yufan patted Daoyun's back to help her catch her breath.
“Buddha, you have bad luck.” Dao Yun’s words made Jiang Yu Fan’s hand pause.
ah?
Jiang Yufan was completely baffled. What had happened to Daoyun in the Jiang family that made him say such a thing?
