Used in medicine
Although the Bodhisattva was a fake Bodhisattva, his benevolent heart was genuine. Even if Jiang Yufan was talking nonsense, Gu Sidu was confident that Jiang Yufan would not have harmed his younger brother if it weren't for him.
But the painful thing is that only Gu Sidu believes it, no one else does, not even Jiang Yufan herself, even though she herself agreed to exchange her life for that of her stranger brother.
Using blood in medicine is a very painful process. The knife has to cut open the flesh, and one has to watch the blood flow out, collect it in a bowl, mix it with the medicine, and have someone drink it. Even if she agreed to such a painful task, Jiang Yufan wouldn't easily cut her own flesh; she had her own principles.
A screen stood in the middle, separating the patient and creating a peaceful haven. These were things that Chenxiang Temple couldn't have; Jiang Yufan had paid for them himself. The screen was carved with lotus patterns, elegant and noble, untouched by mud.
That wasn't enough; a small couch was set up, and incense was burned, its smoke pungent and irritating to the nose and mouth.
The screen was brought into the room, and Jiang Yaoguang was displeased. The heavy incense and the smell of herbs in the room were unbearable. Jiang Yaoguang said to Daoyun, "Where is she? What's she doing causing all this trouble? Does she even want to save anyone?"
"Lord Jiang is being unreasonable," Dao Yun glared at him sideways. "Our Buddhist nun has already done a great favor by agreeing to save people. Instead of being grateful, you have such an attitude. Is this the proper etiquette for officials in the court?"
"Then she shouldn't light incense or do any of this nonsense. She should just come in and cut her flesh and bleed her dry!"
"The screen is to prevent people from seeing the bloody scene, and the incense is lit because the smell of blood cannot be detected in the temple and must be suppressed. You yourself said that you wanted the Buddhist nun to bleed in front of you. If it weren't for your request, I would have just brought a bowl of blood, and there wouldn't have been such a troublesome matter."
"Do you know how much this screen costs? Do you know how much this incense you have here is worth?"
Daoyun was not going to back down at all; she didn't care who Jiang Yaoguang was. She had nowhere to vent her anger, and Jiang Yaoguang was just unlucky to have run into her. Every word Daoyun said left Jiang Yaoguang speechless. Madam Jiang sat by the bedside taking care of Jiang Yurong and gently called out to Jiang Yaoguang.
"Husband, please be patient for the sake of the child."
As soon as she finished speaking, footsteps approached, and Jiang Yufan stepped into the room, her face veiled. Upon seeing Jiang Yufan, Daoyun retreated behind her, while Jiang Yaoguang's anger, which had been persuaded to leave, was reignited by the veil.
"Why are you covering your face with this? Is there something dirty here that has defiled your face?"
Jiang Yufan didn't speak, nor did she acknowledge Jiang Yaoguang's anger. She turned and went to sit behind the screen. This disregard only fueled Jiang Yaoguang's anger. He followed Jiang Yufan into the room, intending to rebuke and question her about her arrogant attitude.
But Jiang Yufan was different today. She was accompanied by Dao Yun and Gu Sidu, who arrived late to protect her.
Dao Yun's sword was drawn, and its point of contact with Jiang Yaoguang's neck was no joke. Dao Yun was willing to kill Jiang Yaoguang without hesitation. It was just a matter of one life for another, but Jiang Yaoguang valued his life more than she did.
Just then, Gu Sidu's voice came from outside the door, breaking the deadlock: "What are you doing, Lord Jiang? The Bodhisattva is here to save people. If you make a big fuss, the Bodhisattva will not save you."
What Jiang Yaoguang desired most and what he worried about most was saving people. He could kneel and endure for his son's sake. Jiang Yaoguang flicked his sleeves unhappily and stepped aside.
That wasn't enough. To save face, Jiang Yaoguang added, "You'd better really save my son's life. Don't try anything funny or cunning."
Gu Sidu pursed his lips helplessly, not saying another word to Jiang Yaoguang. He nodded to Daoyun, walked behind the screen, and went to Jiang Yufan's side. He was late because he had gone to choose an exquisite short knife for Jiang Yufan.
The hilt of this knife is exceptionally sharp, and it is engraved with a white crane pattern, making it easy to grip and prevent it from slipping from your hand. Cutting open flesh and drawing blood requires speed; the pain is temporary and will subside. Therefore, Gu Sidu specifically chose this knife, hoping to reduce Jiang Yufan's suffering.
He said to Jiang Yufan, "Bodhisattva, would you like me to do it for you?"
"No need, I can do it myself." Jiang Yufan took the knife, clenched her fist, and stared quietly at her wrist. She covered her face with a veil, not wanting to see anyone from the Jiang family. At this moment, she stared intently at her wrist and took a deep breath.
This cut is like severing her own flesh and blood to return to her parents, ensuring she owes them nothing more. This is a debt she must repay herself; no one else can do it for her.
"Alright, if the Bodhisattva is afraid of pain, she can bite my arm." Gu Sidu lifted her clothes, but there were too many winter clothes, and Gu Sidu had to untie her clothes to barely pull out a little bit.
Jiang Yufan looked at Gu Sidu, and Gu Sidu looked at Jiang Yufan.
Daoyun sighed and said to Gu Sidu, "Lord Gu, there's no need to do or mention these useless things anymore. We Buddhist nuns will endure it ourselves."
Gu Sidu shook his head: "How can this be a useless thing? What if the Bodhisattva is in pain?"
At that moment, Jiang Yufan directly cut open the flesh of her wrist. The pain as the knife tip slowly tore open a gash, Gu Sidu quickly picked up the glass lamp and placed it on Jiang Yufan's wrist. He hugged Jiang Yufan's shoulders and said, "Bodhisattva, it's alright, don't be afraid, I'm here."
Dao Yun was speechless again, but at this moment she did not want to argue with Gu Sidu. She was more worried about Jiang Yufan. She stared at the blood still in the glass cup and prayed that the blood would flow more and end soon so that the Buddhist nun could go back to recuperate.
Jiang Yufan didn't push Gu Sidu away. She clenched her fists and let the blood flow out. She could no longer feel any pain. As she watched the bright red blood leaving her body, she suddenly felt a sense of relief and joy.
Once all the blood has been shed, the Jiang family will have no leverage against her anymore. What Jiang family, what high-ranking family, heartless villains—Jiang Yufan absolutely refuses to admit that these are the very parents who brought her into this world.
"Alright, alright, the abbot's instructions have been given." Daoyun called out to the Buddhist nun, who was about to take the cup from Gu Sidu's hand; if it continued to flow, the Buddhist nun could not bear it.
Gu Sidu handed the items to Daoyun and sat down to treat Jiang Yufan's injuries. Daoyun went out and gave the items to Jiang Yaoguang so they could use them in the medicine. Looking at the life-saving medicinal ingredient from outside the screen, they were incredibly excited and happy, afraid of spilling even a drop, and carefully used it to make the medicine.
After Jiang Yaoguang left, the room quieted down considerably. Behind the screen, Jiang Yufan smiled coldly, her face filled with countless mocking expressions that evoked only pity. Gu Sidu felt as if his heart was being torn apart. He gently applied medicine to stop the bleeding and bandaged Jiang Yufan's wounds.
He comforted Jiang Yufan: "Bodhisattva, it's alright, it will be over soon, and we can go back to the house."
"Bodhisattva, you should think about what to eat when you get back, so that you can replenish all this blood."
“I’ll take care of it,” a gentle voice said from the person standing by the screen. Everyone looked up to see the source of the voice. Madam Jiang continued, “I know what foods can nourish you. Yu Fan, let your mother take care of your diet these next few days.”
Jiang Yufan looked away. She stood up slightly, but her wrist hurt when she used some strength. She fell back down, biting her lip in pain, looking quite disheveled.
"Bodhisattva, are you alright?" Gu Sidu immediately shielded Jiang Yufan under his body.
Madam Jiang also took a few steps, wanting to go forward to check, but she was still a step too late. She could only stand there, watching Jiang Yufan being protected in Gu Sidu's arms.
“Madam Jiang,” Jiang Yufan raised her head. She would never call the person in front of her “mother” again. She shook her head. “You should use your skills on others. The Jiang family has never had a daughter. How can a Buddhist nun have a mother?”
One sentence pushed her away again. Madam Jiang was about to speak again, but Jiang Yaoguang had already brought in the medicine with the medicinal ingredients. He was looking for Madam Jiang and wanted her to take good care of the person in bed so that he could drink the medicine.
Madam Jiang couldn't delay any longer, so she said softly, "Don't say such spiteful things. Wait for me to give your brother his medicine first, and then I'll come see you."
After speaking, Madam Jiang turned around and went back to the bedside to take care of the patient.
Jiang Yufan only heard Jiang Yaoguang say, "Be careful not to spill it. These medicines are precious. Make sure Yurong drinks them all. If that's not enough, have his sister draw some more blood."
Jiang Yufan laughed in exasperation, her lips curving upwards, but her eyes held no smile, only the chill of winter. All she wanted now was to leave this place, to escape this seemingly harmonious family situation.
After Madam Jiang finished feeding the medicine, she looked up at the room and saw that the screen and the lit incense had been removed, and the faint scent remaining in the air was about to dissipate.
Some people leave so quietly, catching you completely off guard; that's what farewell truly means.
But the days that should have been peaceful were not peaceful. When the bright moon climbed to the top of the tree, scattering its silvery light, and everything was quiet, there was a sound of banging on the door in the backyard, which should have been quiet and peaceful, along with a hint of anger and crying.
Jiang Yufan put on a coat and opened the door. She had only opened one door when a hand that was about to be raised was slapped in the face. She dodged quickly, and Daoyun also raised his hand to push the person back a few steps.
Dao Yun coldly said, "This is a peaceful place; no fighting is allowed!"
"Can't we take action?" Jiang Yaoguang's face trembled as he angrily said, "Then we need to ask you what exactly you did, where the blood came from, and why Yu Rong is vomiting and having diarrhea after drinking the medicine, and is still foaming at the mouth."
The medicine had this kind of reaction after I drank it.
