Rescue
Jiang Yaoguang had only one condition for Jiang Yufan to save the person: he would give Jiang Yufan money and let Jiang Yufan state his request. Jiang Yufan simply smiled and remained silent. Gu Sidu spoke first, addressing Jiang Yaoguang:
“Lord Jiang, if you truly wish to thank the Bodhisattva, you can find another way. Don’t use this method to express your gratitude. It would be a disgrace to her, not a sign of appreciation.”
"Then you can tell me what you want." Jiang Yaoguang was incredibly generous and tolerant, spreading out his hands to let Jiang Yufan make her own request.
“I want to go back to the Jiang family,” Jiang Yufan said. As soon as she said this, Jiang Yaoguang’s face turned cold. Jiang Yufan had expected this. She smiled coldly and said no more.
Jiang Yaoguang was unwilling, but Madam Jiang gently tugged at his elbow: "Husband, how about you agree first?"
This was a stopgap measure, a tactic Madam Jiang had already used, and Jiang Yufan had experienced it firsthand. She was the one who caused this situation, yet she remained calm and observed, not intending to break the stalemate. She wanted to see how Jiang Yaoguang would choose.
Will I go against my own heart or stick to my original intention?
Looking at her mother's swollen eyes and her father's angry, resentful stubbornness, Jiang Yufan suddenly felt that everything here had become absurd and meaningless. Jiang Yufan got up, walked to the bedside, and looked at her younger brother lying on the bed.
He claimed to be his younger brother, but this was the first time Jiang Yufan had met him. The medicine he had been taking for the past few days had barely kept him alive, but his constant delirium and profuse sweating had trapped him in a dream from which he could not wake up.
Jiang Yufan examined the face closely, finding traces of resemblance to himself, but she was completely different from the person in the bed. The love Jiang Yufan had never received, her parents had given unreservedly to the person before her.
Gently raising her hand, Jiang Yufan stroked the child's face. This simple gesture prompted Jiang Yaoguang to speak nervously from behind, "What are you trying to do? Are you trying to murder him?"
“Lord Jiang,” Gu Sidu couldn’t bear to watch any longer. He frowned and reminded Jiang Yaoguang, “Bodhisattva is the only one who can save him. Bodhisattva will not harm him.”
The only people in the room who believed in Jiang Yufan were Gu Sidu and Daoyun. Those who should have believed in Jiang Yufan did not offer her any faith; they simply held each other's hands tightly and watched her next move.
"This is pointless," Jiang Yufan said, "What did the abbot say? How can I save him?"
Upon seeing this, Madam Jiang immediately said, "Use your blood as a medicinal ingredient, and drink it for ten consecutive days to see improvement."
This method is the best, but it's too cruel. For Jiang Yufan, it's like slowly bleeding herself out to save someone she doesn't even know. But this person is her brother, one of those people that others say she must save.
Upon hearing this, Gu Sidu's heart tightened: "But the Bodhisattva cannot withstand this. What will happen to the Bodhisattva's body?"
“You can eat some nourishing foods to make up for it. Blood can regenerate, but a person only has one life. Which is more important is self-evident.” Jiang Yaoguang deliberately emphasized the last few words. He looked at Jiang Yufan, hoping that Jiang Yufan could understand.
Jiang Yufan's heart was pounding. It wasn't the excitement of seeing her younger brother that made her so excited; she had a sudden urge to kill him. If she strangled him with her own hands, she could better avenge herself on Jiang Yaoguang and get her revenge. Meanwhile, Jiang Yaoguang and her mother would fall into an abyss of despair.
They deserve it.
Jiang Yufan should have been ruthless. Her hand moved down and touched her younger brother's neck. Tense and trembling filled her palm. If she used just a little force, she wouldn't have to bleed him or harm her own body.
Anyway, Jiang Yaoguang didn't want her to return to the Jiang family, did he?
That's perfect, what can she do if she doesn't agree?
Just as she was about to make a firm decision, she suddenly heard Gu Sidu calling her name. She loosened her grip, her hand rubbing against Jiang Yurong's skin, and released her. She had missed an opportunity. Looking at Gu Sidu blankly, she finally snapped out of her daze and breathed a sigh of relief.
She responded to Gu Sidu's call, sat up straight, and looked at the person in the room.
“Bodhisattva, do you want to save people? Don’t worry, if you don’t want to, we can leave right now.” Gu Sidu said these words with righteous indignation. He felt sorry for the Bodhisattva’s blood and for the Bodhisattva having to face people he didn’t like every day in a weak state.
But Jiang Yufan spoke up, saying, "I can save him."
After her panicked heart calmed down, Jiang Yufan didn't know what she was thinking. She had a sense of clarity that came after surviving a disaster. If it hadn't been for Gu Sidu, she would have made a terrible mistake and become a maniac.
She still couldn't bring herself to be ruthless; she wasn't completely evil.
She couldn't be a bad person. At this moment, Jiang Yurong was beside her, and his murmured words, like those of a dream, reached her ears. Jiang Yufan thought, the one who was wrong was not this child, but her parents.
She can save this person, but she has conditions.
She said to Jiang Yaoguang and Madam Jiang, "I don't want much. I know that there is no place for me in the Jiang family anymore. I don't want to go back to the Jiang family. This time, I will use ten days of my blood to completely sever ties with you."
They would never bother each other again, and if they met, they would pretend they had never seen each other.
All Jiang Yufan wanted from the beginning was this. When she said she wanted to go back to the Jiang family, it was just to test the waters. But even such a lie was not something Jiang Yaoguang was willing to say.
Upon hearing this request, Jiang Yaoguang suppressed a smile and looked at Jiang Yufan in disbelief: "Can you really do this? Is this all you want?"
These things aren't difficult to do. Jiang Yaoguang had severed ties with Jiang Yufan before, but what happened? In the end, he still had to come begging to her. Jiang Yufan's eyes flashed with coldness as she said to Jiang Yaoguang, "The difficulty in this matter lies with you, not with me."
Jiang Yufan didn't want to be so unlucky again and to run into anyone from the Jiang family again.
She was tired; she wanted to cut ties cleanly.
This was like a gift from heaven for Jiang Yaoguang. Fearing that Jiang Yufan might change his mind, he quickly agreed, saying, "Then hurry up and start using your blood in the medicine from tomorrow."
Jiang Yufan didn't bother to pay attention to them. She said to Daoyun and Gu Sidu, "Let's go. This place is very unlucky. We can't stay here any longer."
Jiang Yufan also said, "From now on, I will bring my blood every day to use in your medicine. Once he wakes up, you should leave Chenxiang Temple as soon as possible."
“No,” Jiang Yaoguang had something to say, “You come here every day, and I want to see you bleed. You are a terrible person. If you use someone else’s blood to impersonate him, Yu Rong still won’t wake up. I need to be wary of you having such thoughts.”
"Lord Jiang, I never expected you to be this kind of person, so petty. It's truly laughable." Gu Sidu couldn't stand it any longer and coldly mocked Jiang Yaoguang.
How could someone be so relentless, refusing to let go of such a young woman?
The fact that the Bodhisattva agreed to save him shows great tolerance and forgiveness. Jiang Yaoguang is truly ungrateful!
Jiang Yufan had long been disappointed. After being disappointed so many times, she was no longer disappointed. What could be more disheartening than this moment? Nothing. Jiang Yufan snorted a few times: "Fine, just as you said. I'll put my words here: Jiang Yaoguang, if you ever come to beg me again, I will drive you away immediately. I swear I will never be a member of the Jiang family again, and you are not allowed to use the Jiang family's name to bind me."
You must do what you say you will do.
Jiang Yufan had never intended to switch the goods; she just found it amusing that her father was such a person. In Jiang Yaoguang's eyes, she was truly a vicious person without a shred of kindness.
There was nothing left in this room for her to cherish.
She got up and left, returning to her room.
It had started snowing outside sometime earlier. The light, icy snowflakes fluttered into Jiang Yufan's arms the moment the door was opened, embracing her and pressing against her skin, bringing her endless coldness. But even in that coldness, Jiang Yufan felt warmth.
Even the snowflakes felt immense pity for Jiang Yufan.
Back in her room, Jiang Yufan remained silent. She watched Daoyun enter and was about to turn and close the door. Gu Sidu stood at the door, gazing at her intently, showing no intention of leaving. It seemed he had much to say but didn't know how to begin, and could only remain silent.
Jiang Yufan lowered her head and saw the jade pendant she had given Gu Sidu hanging from his waist. Ever since Gu Sidu took back the jade pendant, he had kept it on his waist and had not returned it to Jiang Yufan. Gu Sidu always cherished Jiang Yufan's things in this way.
Puzzlingly, Jiang Yufan lowered her eyes and asked, "Gu Sidu, are my things really that good?"
“Of course, everything the Bodhisattva gives is good,” Gu Sidu said, picking up the jade pendant and playing with it in his hand. “Bodhisattva, please give me this jade pendant, okay?”
Jiang Yufan nodded: "Logically speaking, I should also thank you. Consider this jade pendant a thank-you gift."
"What does the Bodhisattva want to thank me for?" Gu Sidu didn't understand. What did he have that the Bodhisattva should thank him for?
"If it weren't for you just now, I might have strangled my brother with my own hands." Jiang Yufan said bluntly. She looked at the fear in Gu Sidu's eyes and smiled knowingly. Sometimes, she liked to tease the innocent Gu Sidu like this.
