resentment
Such is the nature of prejudice in the world; people always preemptively impose all their ill intentions on others, even when the current situation is favorable to themselves.
It was Jiang Yufan who was thrown off and fell headfirst.
Jiang Yufan had regained her senses and was able to think about what had happened. She heard Daoyun's worry, looked at Daoyun, and shook her head: "I'm fine."
She wasn't the one in trouble, nor was she the one lying unconscious in bed. Jiang Yufan heard a few faint calls; it was her mother wiping away tears in Jiang Yaoguang's arms. Her face turned cold, and she subtly grabbed the hem of the person beside her.
Sitting next to Jiang Yufan was Gu Sidu. The tugging of his clothes made him turn around. He saw Jiang Yufan's hand tightly gripping the hem of his clothes; Jiang Yufan needed him. He cleared his throat and quietly squeezed Jiang Yufan's hand in return.
"The current situation is perhaps the will of Heaven. Please restrain your emotions. This is a temple, and we need to be quiet."
The abbot spoke up, explaining that he had just stopped Jiang Yaoguang from acting impulsively. As the one who had saved the person, Jiang Yaoguang naturally had to show him some respect. At this moment, Jiang Yaoguang looked displeased and was pulling at his wife, but he still spoke to the abbot with respect.
“Abbot, this person is truly vicious. This is not the first time she has interfered with my family affairs. I beg you, Abbot, to uphold justice and punish her properly.”
"And what punishment? How should he be punished?" Gu Sidu frowned upon hearing this. Jiang Yaoguang was trying to repay kindness with enmity. He had been in prison for a long time and had been demoted, so he harbored resentment. How could his saintly body withstand such punishment?
Gu Sidu spoke first: "Abbot, no, the Bodhisattva has not been feeling well these past few days. She has just recovered from a serious illness and then fell and hit her head. She fell because Lord Jiang pulled her. She did nothing wrong."
"Gu Sidu, you are such a good dog. You do not yield to power or follow the crowd, but you obey her in everything without any hesitation."
With a mocking and sarcastic tone, Jiang Yaoguang no longer pretended in front of Gu Sidu. He was also resentful. Why was it that he couldn't win over Gu Sidu no matter what he did, while Jiang Yufan did nothing and yet Gu Sidu cared about her? He wanted to make Gu Sidu suffer and be angry. As long as Gu Sidu got up, he would have an excuse to cause a scene at Chenxiang Temple.
Gu Sidu almost fell into the trap, but Jiang Yufan stopped him.
Only the abbot can stabilize this situation. He said, "Arguing is useless. The most important thing is to save lives. Since you are all here today, I will speak frankly."
“Benefactor,” the abbot said to Jiang Yaoguang, “your child’s illness can be cured, but it requires the blood of a close relative as a medicinal ingredient. There is no danger to his life, but he will remain in a coma.”
"Whether a Bodhisattva saves someone or not is their own decision, and others cannot influence or instruct them. It is best to have some reverence for them."
The implication was clear to any intelligent person: if Jiang Yaoguang wanted to save his son, he had to respect Jiang Yufan, because only Jiang Yufan could save him.
Just now, Jiang Yaoguang made a move and hit Jiang Yufan on the head.
Both the Jiang couple looked at Jiang Yufan, but Jiang Yufan kept her head down and didn't look at them. Jiang Yufan knew that the abbot was biased towards her, trying to preserve her dignity and face. At this moment, she had become the key figure, and Jiang Yaoguang had no choice but to obey her and bow down to her.
She is perfectly capable of doing things according to her own will.
At this moment, she still had a debt to collect. Jiang Yufan coughed a few times and secretly tugged at Gu Sidu's sleeve.
Gu Sidu realized what was happening and straightened his shoulders to let Jiang Yufan lean closer. At this moment, Jiang Yufan held her forehead, weak and pale, and closed her eyes.
As if she was feeling dizzy again, Daoyun was about to go forward to check on her, but Gu Sidu said, "The Bodhisattva is weak and does not have the strength to deal with these matters at the moment. Since Lord Jiang's child is not in immediate danger, let's wait until the Bodhisattva recovers before making a decision."
“Abbot, I wish to take the Bodhisattva back with me.”
Jiang Yufan meant that they needed to escape this predicament first to have a chance to catch their breath and slowly think about what had happened that day. Gu Sidu understood quickly. He got permission and took Jiang Yufan back to the meditation room. When they were alone, Jiang Yufan was about to let go of Gu Sidu's hand and push him away.
Still wanting more, Gu Sidu tried to reach out and grab it, but when he raised his hand, he only grasped nothingness.
Gu Sidu looked up reluctantly, his lips turned down, and he lowered his head.
"Buddha, are you alright? Are you still dizzy?" Daoyun was still unaware of what was going on and was worried about whether the Buddha was seriously ill.
“It’s alright, I was just acting, trying to leave that place,” Jiang Yufan patted Daoyun’s hand and said to Gu Sidu, “Thank you for letting you see that embarrassing side of me, and for being willing to help me.”
“It is only right to serve the Bodhisattva.” Gu Sidu withdrew his hand and smiled at Jiang Yufan.
"Don't take what Jiang Yaoguang said to heart. He was just angry that he couldn't get anything, so he said those things to provoke you."
“When the Bodhisattva took my hand, I knew that what Lord Jiang said to me was not sarcastic. I like to do anything for the Bodhisattva, so I am willing to do so. I am angry because Lord Jiang always has malice towards you. I don’t like it and I can’t stand it.”
Everything that could anger Gu Sidu was related to Jiang Yufan.
"This time, I must thank Lord Gu. If it weren't for Lord Gu by my side, I don't know how I would have been able to protect the Buddha Maiden." Dao Yun understood the situation and was relieved to see that the Buddha Maiden was alright. She reluctantly clasped her hands in a salute to Gu Sidu.
This was incredible! Gu Sidu actually witnessed Dao Yun thanking him with his own eyes. This was a moment to remember. He covered his mouth and said to Jiang Yufan, "Bodhisattva, did I become the one who bumped my head? I actually heard Dao Yun praising me!"
If Dao Yun can accept him with peace of mind, then there will be hope for Gu Sidu to follow Jiang Yufan.
Gu Sidu was about to step forward and excitedly take Jiang Yufan's hand. However, he was still not fast enough to outrun Dao Yun's sword. The cold light of the sword was pointed directly at Gu Sidu's nose, making Gu Sidu immediately become obedient.
This was the Dao Yun he knew. Gu Sidu felt relieved, straightened up, and took a few steps back.
Jiang Yufan chuckled and said, "Lord Gu, as you can see, Chenxiang Temple is in a bit of a mess right now. If you have nothing else to do, don't linger here and cause yourself trouble."
“Bodhisattva, we’ve been through so much, why are you still treating me like a stranger?” Gu Sidu said in frustration. “You still treat me like an ordinary person, just like everyone else. Bodhisattva needs me now. What will you do if I leave?”
Gu Sidu certainly wouldn't leave, nor could he possibly leave.
"This should have been a wonderful time for your family to reunite, but unfortunately, things have changed, and so many ridiculous things have happened." Gu Sidu shook his head. The grudges of the Jiang family were simply too difficult to explain.
He had just glanced at the person lying unconscious on the bed, whose face truly exuded an air of pampered luxury, the kind of person who had been carefully raised and cherished at home. He wondered if Jiang Yufan, who had been raised in the Jiang family for those years, was like this too, but he could never see that Jiang Yufan; the Jiang Yufan he had seen was already cold and heartless.
That was Jiang Yufan's younger brother. Gu Sidu saw him and escorted Jiang Yufan out of the house. Jiang Yufan looked at her younger brother and stared at him for a long time.
"Bodhisattva, will you save your brother?" Gu Sidu asked.
“That’s not the Buddha’s brother. The Buddha doesn’t have a brother like that.” Daoyun shook her head excitedly for Jiang Yufan, her eyes filled with anger, and she spoke through gritted teeth.
"Did this younger brother ever harm the Bodhisattva?" Gu Sidu was stunned. He knew nothing about this past event. He wanted to understand and learn everything about the Bodhisattva.
"If Lord Gu knew that Jiang Yaoguang not only abandoned the Buddhist nun, fearing that those false rumors and misfortunes would harm him and severed his relationship with her, but also brought his wife to Chenxiang Temple the following year to pray for a child, forcing the Buddhist nun to fulfill their wishes, you would also deeply despise them."
When these things happened, Daoyun was already by Jiang Yufan's side. She witnessed Jiang Yaoguang and his wife making vows and oaths at Chenxiang Temple. If he could not get a son, he would make Jiang Yufan pay with his blood. He would make Jiang Yufan bear all the sins of the Jiang family and be a sinner for all eternity.
"Back then, Jiang Yaoguang spoke so resolutely. He brought his son to Chenxiang Temple to fulfill his vow, but he was afraid that the curse on the Buddhist nun would bring bad luck to the child. He personally said that the child was not the Buddhist nun's brother and had no relation to her. But now, he wants the Buddhist nun to save his son. It's absurd."
"shameless!"
After hearing this, Gu Sidu echoed Daoyun's words, speaking in unison. Gu Sidu spun around, clapping his hands, "I truly never imagined that Lord Jiang would do something like this for his own future!"
"This is absolutely outrageous!"
"Lord Gu, please don't speak ill of him. If a bright future were placed before you, within your grasp, you might also be tempted." Dao Yun merely sneered, showing no sympathy for Gu Sidu's righteous indignation.
“Over the years, I have followed the Buddhist nun wholeheartedly and have seen too many people say these high-sounding words. They all say that fame and fortune are not worth pursuing, but when that day really comes, they will forget everything. This is the human heart in the world.”
These kinds of things are all too common in Chenxiang Temple. In the minds of these people, it is perfectly normal for Jiang Yufan to have such a cold and aloof personality.
Jiang Yufan still possesses some compassion and kindness, which is most commendable. However, she is undecided about whether to save her younger brother. She doesn't know what to do, and her mind is in turmoil.
Gu Sidu once said that chanting scriptures was the most effective way for him to calm his mind when he was upset. Gu Sidu had found it helpful these days. Jiang Yufan thought that in the coming days, she should also do the same as Gu Sidu and sit quietly and chant scriptures to calm her mind.
She asked Gu Sidu, "Does Lord Gu really intend to stay at Chenxiang Temple?"
Gu Sidu nodded.
“Then Lord Gu is in for a good time these days.” Jiang Yufan knew that she was about to face endless entanglement.
