You can't treat Dao Yun the same way you treat Jiang Yufan. Jiang Yufan is more soft-hearted than Dao Yun, and the sword in Dao Yun's hand is more frightening than Dao Yun's. But Gu Sidu isn't without options.

If the hundred taels didn't end up in Gu Sidu's hands, Daoyun would have a hard time explaining herself. Although Daoyun was stubborn and said she didn't care whether she took it or not, when she stood at the door with the tray and turned around to look at Gu Sidu, who hadn't followed, she still gave in.

She placed the tray on the table and said to Gu Sidu, "Lord Gu, are you absolutely determined to see the Buddhist nun?"

“Of course, my karmic connection with the Bodhisattva is not yet over, and I do not want the Bodhisattva to be separated from me.”

"You still want the Buddhist nun to go with you?" Daoyun was furious. "Why won't you let the Buddhist nun go? There's no way you two can be together. Our Buddhist nun has no feelings for you."

“Not me?” Gu Sidu seized the opportunity. “The Bodhisattva didn’t have me in her heart before because she had revenge and resentment in her heart. Now that Lord Jiang has been punished, as she wished, whether she admits her mistake or not, the Bodhisattva’s wish has finally been fulfilled. Now that the Bodhisattva has no obsession, she may have me in her heart from this moment on.”

"I need to see the Bodhisattva so that the Bodhisattva can see me."

How cunning! Dao Yun thought for a moment, then took Gu Sidu to see Jiang Yufan. Dao Yun had her own selfish reasons. She thought that if Gu Sidu could lead the Buddhist nun away from such a deep abyss as Chenxiang Temple, it might not be a bad outcome for the nun.

Daoyun protected the one hundred taels of silver.

"So now I know why the Bodhisattva is feeling unwell?" Seeing that Daoyun was softening, Gu Sidu pressed his advantage and asked.

Speaking of this, Daoyun sighed.

The icy rain washed over the bluestone steps and naturally seeped into the bones of those around them. Jiang Yufan was surrounded by rain when she saw Gu Sidu fall. When she got back, she coughed incessantly, shivered all over, and had a persistent high fever.

All of this is thanks to Gu Sidu. He has finally recovered quite a bit in the past few days under Daoyun's care, which is why Daoyun had the opportunity to come and see Gu Sidu and bring him his money.

However, Gu Sidu immediately demanded to see Jiang Yufan.

"Oh dear, what a sin I have committed! Because of me, the Bodhisattva has fallen ill. I owe the Bodhisattva a debt, and I will make it up to the Bodhisattva in the future."

Gu Sidu seized the opportunity, and Dao Yun stopped and turned around: "I don't need your compensation. I will take care of the Buddha's daughter. I will definitely not let anything happen to her. As long as you stay away from her, she won't be so unlucky."

Gu Sidu reluctantly shut his mouth and followed Daoyun into Jiang Yufan's room.

He kept the Bodhisattva's concern and gratitude in his heart. The Bodhisattva did care about him, fearing that he would suffer a loss. He knew that his efforts would not be in vain.

Before entering the house, Gu Sidu took a deep breath. He dared not enter easily, afraid of seeing the thin, sickly Buddha.

Dao Yun ignored all that and pushed the door open. If Gu Sidu didn't come in, she was going to close it. With this silent warning, Gu Sidu stepped in.

He looked up and saw Jiang Yufan, whom he had been longing to see for so long.

Ah, his Bodhisattva, his kind Bodhisattva who departed with remorse in his heart. Just seeing him like this, Gu Sidu's eyes welled up with tears. His Bodhisattva was sitting crookedly on the small couch, fully clothed and sitting quietly. His face, which had been thinner due to his illness these past few days, was no longer as joyful as it had been when he was at the Gu family's house.

The Bodhisattva was not happy at Chenxiang Temple.

Gu Sidu didn't know where to look, so he looked around and finally saw the medicine on the table that he hadn't drunk yet.

"Buddha, why haven't you taken your medicine yet?" Daoyun saw it too and went to get it, but Gu Sidu got there first and walked up to Jiang Yufan.

Dao Yun lowered his hand with a cold expression.

"Why are you here?" Jiang Yufan frowned slightly. This one action alone made Gu Sidu stop and keep his distance, respectfully holding the medicine bowl.

“I wanted to come and see you, Bodhisattva,” Gu Sidu said, lowering his head to smell the medicine. He quickly chuckled, “No wonder you don’t like to drink it. This medicine is too bitter. It would be better to prepare some candied fruit.”

"Good medicine tastes bitter. Besides, all the money we Buddhist nuns have saved over the years has been given to you. Where would we have the money to prepare candied fruit?" Dao Yun's words were pointed and had ulterior motives, which everyone present understood.

Jiang Yufan shook his head at Daoyun. He had said too much. Gu Sidu was innocent.

“Lord Gu, I have already made myself very clear,” Jiang Yufan said, taking the medicine. “I cannot help you with what you are asking for, which is why I returned to Chenxiang Temple. What are you doing here looking for me?”

"Does what the Bodhisattva means by saying this mean that if I have a request in my heart and the Bodhisattva can grant it, then I can ask you to come down the mountain to help me again?"

Smart people always seize every opportunity.

"What else do you want?" Jiang Yufan chuckled lightly.

"I beg you, Bodhisattva, I only need you."

These words were far too offensive. Dao Yun's expression changed, and even Jiang Yu Fan herself couldn't help but blush. No one had ever said such things to Jiang Yu Fan before; they were too direct and passionate, leaving her at a loss for words.

This wasn't the end. Gu Sidu mustered his courage, put the medicine aside, and grabbed Jiang Yufan's hands: "Bodhisattva, is Chenxiang Temple a good place for you? If not, could the Gu family be considered a good place?"

"Anyway, my career is pretty much set in stone, so I'll just take it as it comes. But if I can help the Bodhisattva out of his predicament, it will be a merit for both me and you. I want to accumulate such merit."

Jiang Yufan is the merit of Gu Sidu; seeking merit is seeking Jiang Yufan.

Gu Sidu's words struck a chord with Jiang Yufan. She had indeed returned to Chenxiang Temple because she had nowhere else to go. If she had a better place to go, Jiang Yufan certainly wouldn't have brought Daoyun back with her. However, Jiang Yufan still had doubts about Gu Sidu's home.

This isn't good. What right does she have to stay in the Gu family forever? It's alright now, but once Gu Sidu gets married and has children, she'll attract a lot of misunderstandings. She doesn't want to trouble Gu Sidu; she just wants to find a place where she can live a peaceful life.

She didn't ask for much, that was all.

Ever since Jiang Yufan took her revenge on Jiang Yaoguang, she felt an indescribable coldness in her heart. She knew that Jiang Yaoguang had suffered, but when he left that day, his eyes were full of resentment. He would never realize that Jiang Yufan had suffered all these years, and Jiang Yaoguang would never understand.

Nevertheless, she only wanted that one moment of pleasure.

Having vented his anger, Jiang Yufan felt it was all worthwhile.

The abbot visited Jiang Yufan and always felt a deep pity for her. He could only sigh when he looked at her.

"Are you here to persuade me?" Jiang Yufan looked at the abbot. "You helped me before, but I have never thanked you."

“No, I’m not here to advise you,” the abbot shook his head. “I haven’t helped you either. I’ve just answered the questions I was supposed to answer. The current situation is simply the result of its own cause and effect.”

"Then what brings you here?"

"I just wanted to see you. Is your heart satisfied today?"

Jiang Yufan remained silent; she had no way to answer the abbot's question.

“Your cultivation is not yet sufficient; you have not yet been able to comprehend it, Yu Fan. Your cultivation is not yet complete.”

Jiang Yufan still harbors too many obsessions.

Jiang Yufan couldn't figure out what this obsession was. She felt that she had already gotten what she wanted. Her dullness and loneliness were simply because too much time had passed and she hadn't been able to adapt or react.

At this moment, it seems that what the abbot said might have some truth to it. Perhaps the unfinished cultivation of Jiang Yufan was Gu Sidu. She didn't know whether she should go to the Gu family or go with Gu Sidu. Before she could figure out the answer, hurried footsteps came from the door.

It sounds very urgent, but there shouldn't be such a pressing matter in a temple.

All questions and answers were interrupted. Daoyun stood outside the door, giving Gu Sidu time to release Jiang Yufan's hand. When they entered the room, Jiang Yufan was still in that pale, sickly state, holding a bowl of medicine in her hand, which she had just drunk.

"Bodhisattva, please save people."

"What is it?"

Jiang Yufan was tired of this kind of life. When there was nothing to do, she was criticized at Chenxiang Temple, but when something happened, everyone would come to her for help, and she would pretend to be compassionate to all living beings.

“A benefactor came with his child, saying that his child was seriously ill and he wanted to ask the Bodhisattva to save his child.”

“It is a boy. The benefactor said that he is willing to pay any price, no matter how much money, as long as his son can be saved.”

It's the same old story again: the family's favorite boy, for whom they would give up all their wealth and put their heart and soul into these useless things.

Jiang Yufan then thought of herself.

Gu Sidu glanced at Jiang Yufan, whose face had turned even paler. He knew Jiang Yufan's distress and that she couldn't be of much help. Not wanting Jiang Yufan to expose her true feelings, he quickly smoothed things over and asked the man, "Who made such a request? Why don't we ask the abbot what his plans are?"

“If a child is seriously ill, they should go to a doctor, not come to Buddha for help. Buddha can’t help anyone,” Jiang Yufan said coldly.

“The abbot is reciting scriptures to someone else, so it’s not appropriate to disturb him. And this benefactor is in a hurry. If it were anyone else, we would have sent him to find a doctor, but this benefactor has been kind to us.”

"Moreover, that benefactor said that he has already seen doctors, and has consulted all kinds of famous doctors, but there has been no improvement. Bodhisattva, please save the reputation of Chenxiang Temple and save this benefactor."

"If you can save this child, it will be a great merit for you, and our Chenxiang Temple will become even more famous."

They've used the same excuse for many years.

Jiang Yufan sneered: "Who has such a big face?"

"He is a high-ranking official in the court, Lord Jiang Yaoguang."

The room fell silent at these words. Dao Yun was dumbfounded, staring at Jiang Yu Fan; Gu Si Du panicked, looking at Jiang Yu Fan, but Jiang Yu Fan was not angry, her face grew even colder.

Jiang Yufan clenched her fist, a bitter herbal taste spreading across her tongue.

Bitterness, medicine is bitter, and Jiang Yufan's life is also bitter.
