When I rushed back to the room where I had changed clothes, the door was wide open and the two little demons from before were gone.
I silently sat back down in my chair and waited for them to come. I guessed that the two little demons had gone to report to the barbarian city lord after they realized I was gone.
I poured myself a cup of tea and savored it, pondering how I would explain my disappearance when the Barbarian City Lord arrived. Before I could finish the tea, the two little demons returned with someone, but it wasn't the Barbarian City Lord behind them; instead, it was an unfamiliar demon.
The two little demons looked at me with surprise, scratched their heads, and muttered softly, "They weren't here just now."
"Are you two making fun of me? Isn't this person right here?" The demon behind the little demon, who was clearly of higher status, glanced at me, then turned and said fiercely to the little demon.
"Manager, no, he really wasn't here just now..." The little demon's voice trailed off.
The steward snorted coldly, ignoring Xiao Yao, and stepped forward to me, saying, "Young Master, it seems the wedding will have to be canceled."
"Has something happened to Miss?" I put down my teacup and asked with a composed expression.
The steward paused for a moment upon hearing this before replying, "Yes." Then, with some curiosity, he asked, "How did the young master find out?"
"I vaguely heard someone say that something had happened to Miss in the room. I was worried, so I took advantage of the two of them not paying attention and quietly slipped out to check. I hope the steward will not take offense."
"Young master is joking. How could you allow us servants to speak out if you were worried about the young lady?" The steward quickly waved his hand, his words humble but his expression unyielding.
"May I go see the young lady?"
"Well..." The steward hesitated upon hearing this, "I need to report to the young lady first."
"Okay." I nodded lightly upon hearing this.
Just as the steward was about to leave, he returned and said, "Young master, a courtyard has been prepared for you. These two will take you there shortly."
"good."
After the steward left, the two little demons looked at each other, and one of them boldly stepped forward, "Thank you, young master, for getting us out of trouble."
I chuckled. "I didn't help you. Lead the way, didn't you arrange new accommodations for me?"
"Okay," the little demon replied happily.
My new courtyard is a bit further away from the front hall; it's a secluded place. The courtyard is quite large, so it feels a bit empty. There's a main house and two side rooms.
I looked around. Although it was somewhat empty, the layout was good. I wouldn't stay long, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
"Young master, although this courtyard is a bit empty, if you need anything, just tell us and we'll make arrangements for you right away." Xiao Yao carefully observed my somewhat fearful expression.
"It's alright, this is fine."
I strolled forward and pushed open the door to the main house. I expected to be greeted by a cloud of dust, but there was none.
The interior wasn't luxurious, but it was spotless, suggesting it had just been cleaned.
I immediately noticed a large bed in the inner room, and my previously gloomy mood instantly brightened. Bed, I want to lie down and get some sleep; I feel so tired today.
When I woke up, it was still dark outside, and I couldn't tell whether it was morning or night. I didn't know how long I had slept. I twisted my neck and wanted to call the two of them in to ask if Man Jiao'er had agreed to see me, but I didn't know the names of the two little demons, so I had to get up and go look for them.
I had just reached the door when the two little demons, perhaps having heard the noise, knocked and entered. "Young master, are you awake? Is there anything you need?"
I rubbed my temples and asked, "Has the manager arrived? Has Miss Man agreed to see me?"
