Forty-nine

I was completely relieved and prepared to leave quietly. After Man Jiao'er's commotion, no one would care that I was gone.

"Father," came Man Jiao'er's weak voice.

Is Manjiao'er awake? I stopped again and couldn't help but take another look. My love for joining in the fun has never changed.

"Jiao'er, how could you be so foolish? Why did you try to commit suicide?" The city lord held Jiao'er's hand, his eyes filled with heartache. His sorrowful and tender expression made his weathered face look even older.

"Father, your daughter is unfilial. It's all my fault. I can't live any longer and harm the Man clan and Lingcheng. Father, please let me go." Man Jiao'er's pale and weak face was covered with a pair of watery eyes.

"Jiao'er, what nonsense are you talking about? Father has never blamed you. It was all that villain Yue Jiao's doing. Now everything is fine, isn't it? Yue Jiao is gone too. Jiao'er, don't be afraid."

"Father, it's no use, Yue Jiao won't let me go." Man Jiao'er shook her head, her expression somewhat desperate.

"What does this mean? Didn't Yue Jiao just leave?" The city lord of Man City asked, puzzled.

"I just went back to my room to change my clothes when I received a letter from Yuejiao. The letter said that she would come to see me another day."

"How could this be?" The city lord of the barbarian city was shocked upon hearing this. "This Yue Jiao is really going too far! I will go to Sun and Moon City tomorrow to file a complaint against Yue Jiao."

"Father, it's no use. The Sun and Moon Lord can protect us once, but he can't protect us every time."

"This is outrageous!" The barbarian city lord angrily wanted to punch the edge of the bed, but then withdrew his hand for fear of shaking the barbarian girl on the bed.

This Yue Jiao is really going too far! The girl clearly doesn't want to be with him anymore, but he keeps pestering her, almost driving her to her death! After hearing what the Man family father and daughter said, my impression of Yue Jiao plummeted to its lowest point, and I was furious.

If I leave, who knows what Yuejiao might do to the barbarians. If he comes back and can't find me, he might take his anger out on the barbarians and report to his superiors that they are colluding with the Heavenly Court. Colluding with foreign tribes is a heinous crime that leads to the extermination of an entire clan, no matter where it is!

Thinking about it this way, I became more and more conflicted. If I left, I would definitely harm the Man family. The Man family was already pitiful enough. If I didn't leave, what if I got caught?

The scales in my heart kept tipping back and forth. After much deliberation, I decided to stay and observe the situation. I would leave once the barbarian tribe was safe. I was the one who caused this trouble, so how could I just leave and leave the mess for others?

However, I had to inform everyone first. I took one last look at the distressed Man family father and daughter, and then quickly left the room.

This time, my journey was exceptionally smooth. I quickly left the city lord's mansion and, following the clues, found Luo and the others.

"Sister, you're back!" As soon as Hao saw me, he dropped the little toy he was holding and pounced on me. Feng Su wanted to pounce on me too, but she was too late and glared at Hao angrily.

"My lord, I have memorized the route out of the city. Shall we depart immediately?" Luo asked as I stepped forward unhurriedly, his face always bearing an indifferent expression that revealed neither joy nor anger.

"No rush." I picked up Hao and hesitated for a moment before saying, "I've decided to stay and help Lord Mancheng."

Luo nodded without much reaction, as if I was in charge. Feng Su, as my mount, had been with me for many years and always did whatever I said. Jin Yu naturally didn't say anything. Hao blinked in my arms, clearly not understanding.

My decision was passed so easily, without any obstacles or objections.
