Sixty-four

Seeing that Xiaogua had left and closed the door behind him, I got up and got out of bed to do my hair and makeup, and then cast a spell to transform back into a man.

Did Xiaogua notice anything just now? As I tidied my hair, I looked at myself in the mirror. The difference between my male form and my original self wasn't that big, except that I had a bit more heroic air between my brows. I was lying on the bed with my hair down, and it was covered by my hair, so it shouldn't be noticeable, right?

After I finished dressing up, I checked myself in the mirror a few times to make sure there was nothing wrong before I pushed open the door and went out. As soon as I stepped out of the room, I saw the barbarian lord sitting calmly in my courtyard.

"Could he have been waiting for me all this time?" I wondered, wondering why the city lord of the barbarian city had come to see me so early in the morning.

"Lord of the Barbarian City." I slowly walked up to the Lord of the Barbarian City and bowed in greeting.

The barbarian city lord glanced at me and asked, "I heard that Yue Jiao invited you to Liuyun Tower?"

"Yes." I nodded slightly. How did the city lord know? Was it Jiao'er, Xiao Gua, Xiao Hua, or...?

The city lord stared at me for a long time before slowly speaking, "What is your relationship with Yue Jiao? Have you always been one of his men? If so, then my city lord's mansion cannot keep you here. I hope you will leave as soon as possible, young hero."

I hurriedly began to explain, "No, Lord Barbarian, please listen to me."

So it turns out that the city lord of Mancheng came to see me today because of Yuejiao. Does he suspect my relationship with Yuejiao?

"Tell me." A glimmer of hope flashed across the old, cloudy eyes of the barbarian city lord, and there was even a hint of expectation on his stern face.

The words I wanted to say suddenly caught in my throat, and I couldn't utter them. Perhaps... I lowered my eyes and pondered silently, perhaps this was a good time to say goodbye.

"Thank you for your hospitality, Lord Dido Xieman, over the past few days." I paused, "and I take my leave now."

"Alright, alright, alright, what a fine farewell."

I kept my head down, not daring to look at the barbarian city lord's face. I vaguely heard the barbarian city lord get up and leave in anger. I looked up and just happened to see the barbarian city lord's departing figure, his somewhat unsteady steps gradually fading into the distance.

As I watched the barbarian city lord's departing figure, I suddenly heard Xiao Gua's voice, "Young master, are you really leaving?"

I managed to squeeze out a "hmm" from my throat, but when I turned to look at Xiaogua, I saw that her face was covered in tears.

Why are you crying?

Xiao Gua wiped away her tears. The usually clever Xiao Gua stammered, "I, I can't bear to leave you, young master. Young master, can you, can you not leave?"

Seeing Xiaogua's tear-streaked face, I couldn't help but feel a little sad too. "All good things must come to an end."

"I..." Xiao Gua clenched her hands, tears welling in her eyes, hesitating whether to speak. "I, young master, it wasn't me who told the city lord. Young master, I know you're definitely not one of Yue Jiao's people."

"Okay, I understand." I patted Xiaogua's head and said, "Don't cry, I have something for you to help me with later."

"I will definitely complete the task assigned by the young master."

Looking at Xiaogua's determined face, I couldn't help but feel moved. The barbarian people are truly kind, from the city lord to the servants.

I calmed myself down and walked back into the house to get paper and pen. I wanted to leave a letter for Man Jiao'er, telling her that she no longer needed to worry about Yue Jiao, and that I would make Yue Jiao behave himself and stop bothering her.

After thinking about how to phrase it, I picked up my pen and wrote it down. After finishing, I folded it up and handed it to Xiaogua.

"Little melon, this is a letter I left for Jiao'er. You must deliver it to Jiao'er for me." I solemnly placed it in Little melon's hand and said.

"Mm." Xiaogua nodded emphatically, holding the letter.

"Well..." I lowered my eyes and paused, "then goodbye, Little Melon."
