My younger sister ignored me and, after searching the entire floor, rushed out the door and ran upstairs.
I followed her upstairs, where the attic was located.
Because the houses in this community are all resettlement houses, they are all detached buildings, each with about five floors. After the little girl ran up to the attic, she continued to search the room, but I don't know what she was looking for.
Seeing the anxious look on her face, I knew she hadn't found it.
I asked from the side, "Yaoyao, what are you looking for?"
The younger sister didn't answer me. After searching the attic and not finding what she wanted, she ran downstairs again, and I hurriedly followed her.
The girl ran incredibly fast, straight downstairs, towards a zombie not far away. Seeing this, I was terrified. I quickly drew my machete, rushed over, and killed the zombie in front of her. Then I turned and grabbed her shoulder, asking, "Yaoyao, what are you looking for?"
The little sister ignored my question and stared at the zombie I had killed, her eyes filled with pain.
I was puzzled, so I turned to look at the zombie and found that its face was almost rotten, and I couldn't tell who it was at all. Could it be someone my little sister knew? But that shouldn't be the case!
Tears streamed from the little girl's eyes; she looked very distressed, repeatedly calling out, "Chen Feng... Chen Feng..."
"Chen Feng?" I repeated the name to myself, then looked at my little sister's pained face and the zombie I had killed on the ground. I was stunned for a moment before I realized what was going on.
"Yao Yao!"
I called out twice, but the little girl didn't react. Her eyes were fixed on the dead zombie beside her.
I waved my hand in front of her eyes, but she didn't react at all.
"Am I hallucinating?" I wondered to myself.
My little sister's mental state has probably collapsed by now, probably because of this Chen Feng she mentioned. She must think that the zombie I killed was Chen Feng, and she's in unbearable pain.
I have no idea who this Chen Feng is or what his relationship is with my little sister.
It must have been one of my younger sister's companions before, or perhaps they were even closer, otherwise my younger sister wouldn't have cried like this.
Looking at my younger sister's expression, I didn't know what to do for a moment.
We can't just let her keep crying like this, can we?
Would that attract the surrounding zombies?
I decisively picked up my still-crying little sister, took her back upstairs, and let her sit on the sofa to continue crying.
It's better to be inside than outside; at least that way the crying won't get out.
Seeing her like this, I didn't want to knock her unconscious. This girl was already in enough pain. If I knocked her unconscious, she would probably still break down when she woke up.
It's better to let her cry now; she'll probably feel better after she's finished crying.
I sat on the sofa to the side without saying a word, waiting quietly. To be honest, my heart was aching.
The girl cried for about ten minutes, then seemed to be tired and collapsed on the sofa, her eyes slowly closing before disappearing underwater.
I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that she was asleep.
She looks like she's cried enough. I think she'll feel better after she wakes up.
However, looking at her sleeping, I suddenly remembered a question.
After she woke up, she had been searching for something in the house, and judging from the situation downstairs, she was looking for someone.
"Could it not be a hallucination? Or are they really looking for someone?"
I thought about it carefully. A few days ago, when we were still in the central town, she told me that she wanted to go home. When she woke up before, she also asked me if she was at home.
So she was indeed searching at home, not in a hallucination.
I squinted.
Could it be that the Chen Feng my little sister was talking about is here?
After thinking for a long time, I shook my head, still unable to figure it out.
We can only ask my little sister about everything after she wakes up.
It's getting late.
We've been traveling for almost a whole day, and it's already 4:30 in the afternoon. It's time to prepare dinner. By the time my little sister wakes up, it will be almost time to finish eating.
I went downstairs, took the food from the car, and prepared it for a bit. By then it was already five o'clock.
I glanced at my younger sister on the sofa and noticed that she had opened her eyes and seemed to be awake.
I said, "You're awake. I just finished making dinner, it'll be ready to eat in a bit."
The younger sister sat up from the sofa and nodded in agreement.
Seeing that she wasn't moving around anymore, I breathed a sigh of relief and went back to the kitchen to continue preparing dinner, which would be ready soon.
Just then, I heard my younger sister walk from the living room into the kitchen. I didn't turn around, but stared at the stove in front of me, and asked, "Why did you come in? I'll be right there..."
Bang!
Before I could finish speaking, I suddenly felt a sharp pain in the back of my head, as if I had been hit hard by something.
I rolled my eyes and instantly fainted.
Then I lost consciousness and awareness, but I knew that my younger sister must have ambushed me, since there was no one else in the house!
But why did she ambush me?
...
When I woke up again, it was already incredibly dark outside.
I don't know where I am. The moment I sat up, a sharp pain shot through the back of my head. I touched it and there was no bleeding, but a large lump had formed. It hurts when I touch it, and I don't know when the lump will go down.
Not only that, my head is spinning, I clearly have a concussion, but it shouldn't be serious.
After a while, the dizziness subsided considerably.
It was pitch black all around, with only moonlight streaming in through a single window.
I reached out and found a flashlight. When I turned it on, I discovered that I was lying in my younger sister's bedroom. I checked the time and found that it was already 10:30 p.m.
Immediately, I felt a pang of panic.
"Yao Yao!"
I rushed out of the room and into the living room, but the living room was empty; there wasn't a single person there.
I then looked for the other rooms, but there was no one there. I then went to the attic to look for someone, but still no one was there.
My little sister is missing! I started to panic.
I rushed downstairs to take a look and found that the car was still there, which meant that my little sister must still be in Wutong City.
I was about to take out my keys and drive to look for them, but when I reached into my pocket, I realized they weren't there.
There was nothing I could do but run upstairs again to my younger sister's room. I saw the car keys on the bedside table, and underneath them was a piece of paper with some words written on it.
