Chapter 62 The Strange Black Dog

The cobra stared coldly at Liu Anran, hissing softly.

Liu Anran felt a chill run down her spine from the stare, and goosebumps rose on her skin.

Liu Anran knew that she couldn't move now. If she moved, the cobra would think she was going to attack it and would definitely pounce on her and bite her. If she got bitten, it would be terrible.

Liu Anran wanted to enter the space, but seeing the cobra so close by, she remembered that Yunlong had been talking about wanting to eat meat for a long time.

If they kill the cobra, she and Yunlong will have meat to eat, enough for several meals.

This is the apocalypse, or rather, the world of an apocalyptic novel. Eating wild snakes shouldn't be illegal.

Thinking of this, Liu Anran's eyes lit up, and her desire to eat meat outweighed her fear.

Liu Anran looked at the cobra's outstretched fleshy wings, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Strike the snake at its vital spot," she thought, referring to the area around its heart.

She moved down from the cobra's red tongue, mentally estimating where the cobra's vital spot should be.

Aiming at the cobra's vital spot, Liu Anran swiftly extended her hand and shot a golden blade at the cobra, which pierced its vital point.

The cobra hissed angrily and lunged at Liu Anran, trying to bite her to death.

Liu Anran was terrified when she saw that the cobra was not only alive but also trying to pounce on her and bite her to death.

Holy crap! Could it be that we miscalculated the cobra's vital spot?

Suppressing her fear, Liu Anran quickly fired three golden blades at the cobra, striking its vital spot. The cobra struggled a few times but could no longer move.

Liu Anran looked at the cobra that was so close to her and poked it a few times with a stick, but the cobra didn't react at all.

She's dead! She killed the cobra!

Liu Anran patted her chest, still shaken. "My God! My heart almost jumped out of my chest. It's so hard to get a bite of meat. I almost lost my life!"

Liu Anran sat on the ground, and it took her a while to recover. Looking at the cobra on the ground, she took out a wood-chopping knife from her spatial storage, chopped off the cobra's head, and kicked it into the ditch with disgust.

He picked up the cobra, his face lighting up with delight. It was so heavy, it must weigh seven or eight pounds, enough for several meals.

Liu Anran laughed happily, and with a beaming smile, she carried the cobra into the space.

When Yunlong saw the cobra in Liu Anran's hand, he exclaimed in surprise, "Mom, is that a snake you're holding?"

Liu Anran nodded with a beaming smile, "It's a cobra. We'll have snake meat for lunch today."

Yunlong really wanted to eat meat, but remembering what Liu Anran had said about snakes being poisonous, he was afraid of being poisoned to death if he ate snake meat. He said worriedly, "Mom, aren't snakes poisonous? What if I get poisoned to death?"

Seeing the expression on Yunlong's face—a mixture of wanting to eat meat and worrying about being poisoned—Liu Anran teased, "If you're afraid it's poisoned, Mom will eat first. If you're not poisoned, then you can eat."

"Mom, what will I do if you die? Let's eat together! If we're going to die, let's die together," Yunlong said with a look of grim determination.

Liu Anran burst into laughter. Yunlong was so adorable. After laughing for a while, she said, "Okay, if we're going to die, we'll die together. In the next life, we'll still be mother and son."

Liu Anran skinned the snake, removed its internal organs, kept the gall bladder, and threw away the snake skin and internal organs.

Yunlong asked, "Mom, how do you cook snake meat?"

Liu Anran said, "Simmered!"

Yunlong had never eaten snake meat before, and asked curiously, "Is it delicious stewed?"

“Stewing is definitely delicious, especially snake soup, which has a very fresh flavor,” Liu Anran said.

Liu Anran chopped two catties of snake meat, washed the soup pot clean, filled it halfway with water, and placed it on the gas stove. After the water boiled, Liu Anran poured the snake meat into the soup pot to blanch it, took the snake meat out, then poured out the water in the soup pot, poured the blanched snake meat into a pressure cooker, added water, red dates, and ginger.

"Yunlong, pour half a cup of water from your space into the pot," Liu Anran said.

Upon hearing this, Yunlong immediately poured half of the pressure cooker into the pot from his spatial storage. Liu Anran then closed the pressure cooker and placed it on the gas stove to start stewing.

After stewing the snake meat, Liu Anran ladled a large bowl of snake meat, along with the broth, for Yunlong.

"Are you hungry? Eat while it's hot!" Liu Anran said.

Looking at the fragrant snake meat in the bowl, Yunlong couldn't wait to pick up a piece and put it in his mouth, completely forgetting whether the snake meat was poisonous or whether he would be poisoned to death.

Liu Anran filled a bowl halfway with soup and slowly drank it.

"Mom, snake meat is delicious," Yunlong said.

Seeing Yunlong eating so happily, Liu Anran was also very pleased and said softly, "Eat more if you like it. There's still a lot left in the pot, and Mom will save it all for you."

Yunlong picked up a piece of snake meat and placed it near Liu Anran's mouth, smiling, "Mom, you eat too."

Liu Anran smiled and opened her mouth to eat the snake meat, then said with a smile, "Yunlong, you can eat it yourself. Mom doesn't like snake meat, so just drink half a bowl of soup."

Yunlong finished all the snake meat and soup in his bowl, patted his belly and said, "Mom, I think staying in the mountains is not bad now, there's meat to eat!"

Liu Anran smiled and ruffled Yunlong's hair, saying, "The gas in the gas cylinder is almost gone. I need to go out of the space to collect firewood on the mountain. After you've eaten your fill, take a walk around in the space. If you're sleepy, go to sleep."

"Mom, I understand," Yunlong said obediently.

Liu Anran put the snake skin and snake entrails into a trash can, carried the can out of the space, emptied the trash, and put the can back into the space.

Liu Anran looked around and saw a pine forest not far away. She took out a snakeskin bag from her spatial storage, picked up a wooden stick from the ground, and walked towards the pine forest.

Upon arriving at the pine forest, Liu Anran looked at the dry pine needles that had fallen from the pine branches, forming a thick layer on the ground. She used a stick to gather the dry pine needles into a pile and put them into a snakeskin bag, quickly filling the bag.

Liu Anran put the snakeskin bag into her spatial storage with satisfaction. She noticed a lot of dry pine branches in the pine forest, bent down to pick them up, and put them into her spatial storage.

Suddenly, Liu Anran spotted a yellow mushroom. Upon closer inspection, her face lit up with joy. It turned out to be a pine mushroom! She was in for a treat.

Liu Anran stopped gathering firewood, picked up a stick, bent down, and began looking for mushrooms.

Searching high and low, Liu Anran spent a long time in the pine forest, only to find a dozen or so pine mushrooms. Feeling disappointed, she searched for a while longer before finally finding one. With that, she had no choice but to give up, took out her machete, and started chopping at a pine tree that was about the size of a bowl and had already dried up.

After laboriously felling the pine tree and storing the dry pine trunk in her spatial storage, Liu Anran was about to leave the pine forest when she heard a noise behind her. Her heart tightened, and she silently prayed, "Please, please, it's not a mutated animal!"

Liu Anran turned to look in the direction of the sound, a look of surprise on her face.

The dog is a medium-sized black dog with black eyes. It shouldn't be a mutation; it should be a normal dog!

But we haven't seen any people or zombies here, so how could there be a dog? That doesn't make sense!

The black dog stared intently at Liu Anran, neither moving nor barking.

Liu Anran looked at the black dog with a puzzled expression. "What's the meaning of you staring at me like that? At least bark at me!"
