Chapter 9: Squatting on the ground, dawdling.

"Mother, please eat something!"

The three sons took turns urging Yue Jiuyue to eat.

Yue Jiuyue waved her hand and said:

"No need, we won't starve if we skip a meal. Let's hurry up and go up the mountain to dig for medicinal herbs. Let's dig up more so we can sell more copper coins to exchange for some food."

She spoke with great righteousness, but her stomach was actually quite full. Looking at the two-thirds of the large steamed buns left in the space, she felt that the three coins she spent were well worth it.

"Mother, we don't even know if this is a medicinal herb yet. Do we really have to keep digging?"

After eating a lunch that was practically the same as not eating at all, Lin Chaodong made a small protest against his mother's decision to go dig up weeds.

Yue Jiuyue frowned; it seemed that confirming the herbal medicine information needed to be brought forward.

"Then, which of you two will carry a basket to the town clinic and ask a doctor, one facing south or the other north?"

Yue Jiuyue actually preferred to go by herself and see what was in town and how much it cost. But thinking that she could secretly exchange more money with the 2023 Mall on the mountain, Yue Jiuyue suppressed the idea.

There will be plenty of opportunities to go to town in the future, but the opportunity to make money is right in front of her. The matter of digging for medicinal herbs cannot be kept secret. As long as she wants to earn this money, she has to go up the mountain every day. She doesn't want to become the target of public criticism, so she told the clan chief's wife, Madam Wang, about the medicinal herbs.

"Mom, I'm going!"

"Mom, I'm going!"

The two brothers spoke up at the same time, their attitude far more proactive than when they usually went up the mountain to fetch water.

Lin Chaodong also longed to visit, as he hadn't been to town in a long time.

Like most eldest brothers, Lin Chaodong was somewhat introverted, unlike his three younger brothers who were more outgoing, although he was quite mischievous as a child.

This is also why Yue Jiuyue chose to send either Lin Chaonan or Lin Chaobei; she was afraid that if Lin Chaodong went, she would be too embarrassed to ask.

After thinking it over, Yue Jiuyue decided to let Lin Chaonan go, since Lin Chaobei was only sixteen years old and still a minor in her eyes.

"The third brother will go to the town hospital to ask about medicinal herbs, the eldest brother will go to fetch water, the fourth brother will come with me to the mountain to dig for medicinal herbs, and the eldest brother's wife will stay home to take care of the children."

If Liu hadn't been so prone to crying, Yue Jiuyue would have let her go up the mountain to dig for medicinal herbs.

Losing one worker means losing two or three taels of silver!

It's clear how much Yue Jiuyue disliked Liu Shi; she'd rather earn less money than see her.

Lin Chaonan was so happy that his mouth almost stretched to the back of his head. After picking out every kind of medicinal herb he had dug up that day and putting them all into his basket, he set off for town in high spirits.

While Lin Chaonan was selecting medicinal herbs, Lin Chaodong had already carried buckets of water into the mountains, and Yue Jiuyue also took the somewhat sullen Lin Chaobei to the mountains to dig for medicinal herbs.

Yue Jiuyue didn't care whether he was happy or not. Although he was still a minor, he was already sixteen years old and no longer a child.

"Head north, and you should dig up these two herbs. Look carefully, this slender-leaved herb (Polygala tenuifolia), you need its root."

There's also this "crow's eye" (Pinellia ternata), which is also obtained from the bottom root, that round ball.

After instructing Lin Chaobei on what to do, Yue Jiuyue squatted on the ground and began to dawdle.

She was seen pulling weeds with both hands, but the pile of weeds didn't seem to grow any bigger; it looked like she was just dawdling.

Seeing her balance change from a 4 to a 5, Yue Jiuyue was as happy as a 200-pound chubby girl, even though she was exhausted and her back ached.
