Once outside, two teams of fully armed exoskeleton warriors immediately rushed over, flanking them. Tanks led the way, while military police followed behind. As for the others nearby, they had been called away by their superiors two hours earlier.
The crowd was surrounded and stepped onto a green-painted train that had already stopped, and then they were quietly enveloped by a dark tunnel.
The train quickly stopped accelerating and maintained a steady speed. A soldier wearing a white hat, holding a testing instrument, and another person holding a pile of sealed bags walked out of the connecting door on the side of the carriage.
"According to confidentiality regulations, communications are now under control. Take out your terminals and other communication devices! Don't let me find you hiding them. That would be bad for everyone!"
"What about watches and the like?" someone in the carriage asked.
"Don't ask, it's all the same!"
Jiang Ling rummaged through his pocket and handed the things over.
The man scanned her pass, and out fell a numbered army green card and a sticker.
"Keep the card safe. When you get there, you can pick up the items that meet the requirements." The man reminded her and handed the sticker behind him and stuck it on the seal of the sealed bag containing her personal belongings.
Jiang Ling nodded, she had a similar experience.
A moment later, another soldier in a different uniform came out of the same door, carrying a stack of white notebooks and two pens, the notebooks smelling of wet ink.
He distributed the notebooks to everyone, then stood at the other end of the carriage, waiting for everyone to look through them.
Jiang Ling flipped open the first page. At the top were two familiar bold characters. Well, it was the same formula again. She'd memorized the words. She flipped straight to the last page, raised her hand, asked the person for a pen, and signed her name and card number.
Her actions did not attract anyone's attention. It was basically the first time for those people to see such top-secret regulations, so they were still reciting the contents in a low voice.
During this time, the train stopped several times at different stations, and Jiang Ling sensed that a lot of cargo had been loaded onto the train. The green train hadn't disturbed anyone along the way, and even when it stopped, few people came forward to watch, as if it were a ghost train.
When Jiang Ling was almost drowsy, the person with the worst memory in the carriage finally signed his name. Almost at the same time, a guy with his face covered walked into the carriage.
"Comrades!" the man said solemnly, "No matter what your rank or status before, you are all colonels now! Congratulations!"
