"Hey, you two, have your results come out yet? I heard the cutoff scores are pretty high this year!" Aunt Zhang, the owner of the convenience store next to the school, asked curiously as she skillfully packed two hot drinks.
Su Mo and Mo Qingxue exchanged a smile, a tense yet sweet atmosphere filling the air. "We haven't investigated yet, Aunt Zhang. We plan to go back and investigate together, to give each other some courage," Mo Qingxue replied softly, her hand unconsciously tightening its grip on the paper bag in her hand.
“Courage? You two have plenty of it. I can tell from the whole town how hard you’ve worked. Go on, kids. No matter the outcome, Aunt Zhang is proud of you.” Aunt Zhang’s eyes were full of encouragement as she handed over hot drinks, as if conveying a warm sense of strength.
Walking home, the summer breeze carried a slight chill, and the streetlights on both sides gradually lit up, casting long shadows of them. Passing a park, a group of children were chasing and playing. One of the children suddenly stopped, pointed at them, and shouted, "Look! It's that older brother and sister! Mom says they're role models!" The children all looked at them with admiration, making Su Mo and Mo Qingxue smile a little shyly.
"Big brother, can you really get into university? Isn't that amazing?" A little boy ran over and looked up at Su Mo to ask.
Su Mo squatted down and gently patted the boy's head: "As long as you work hard, everyone can become amazing. Remember, nothing is impossible."
After saying goodbye to the children, they continued on their way, their hearts filled with mixed emotions. Mo Qingxue broke the silence: "Su Mo, no matter the outcome, what I want to say is that the time we spent together is more important to me than any achievement."
Su Mo held her hand tightly, his eyes shining with an unusual light: "Me too, Xiaoxue. The road ahead is long, let's explore it together and create our own miracles together."
Night had fallen, and moonlight filled the room. Mustering their courage, the two simultaneously clicked the button to check their results. The numbers that appeared on the computer screen made them both hold their breath. Then, disbelief flashed in Su Mo's eyes, quickly turning into ecstatic joy. He jumped up, shouting, "I passed! I really got in!"
Mo Qingxue's tears welled up, but they were tears of happiness: "I knew it, you could do it, Su Mo!"
At this moment, their world seemed to stand still, and all their efforts and sweat received the most beautiful reward.
Grandma's voice came from outside the door, slightly choked with emotion: "Children, have the results come out yet? Grandma has been praying for you all."
Mo Qingxue wiped away her tears, opened the door, and beamed with a smile: "Grandma, we did it! Su Mo got into university!"
"This is wonderful, wonderful..." Grandma hugged them, her voice trembling.
As night fell, celebratory firecrackers echoed through the neighborhood, as if the entire town was cheering for them. Mo Qingxue and Su Mo stood side by side by the window, watching the fireworks outside, their hearts filled with a different kind of excitement.
“Su Mo, you’re going to university soon, where there will be many new people and things. Will you…” There was a hint of uncertainty in Mo Qingxue’s voice.
Su Mo turned her head, her gaze firm: "Xiao Xue, no matter where I am, my heart will always be here with you. We will face every challenge in the future together, because we are each other's support."
Their words intertwined in the air, like a promise made forever. At this moment, passersby, family members, and even the distant sound of fireworks seemed to witness this deep affection and determination.
"Then let's welcome tomorrow together. No matter what lies ahead, as long as we walk hand in hand, nothing is impossible." Mo Qingxue's words were full of confidence. She held Su Mo's hand tightly, and the two stepped together into the unknown but bright future.
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, gently waking the sleeping town. Su Mo and Mo Qingxue were awakened early by a lively knocking at the door. A group of neighbors and friends had gathered outside, their faces beaming with smiles brighter than the summer sun.
"Su Mo, Mo Qingxue, open the door! We have to have a proper celebration today!" The neighbor Brother Wang's cheerful voice pierced through the crack in the door, mixed with laughter.
The door slowly opened, and Su Mo and Mo Qingxue were pleasantly surprised. The scene outside the door moved them deeply—flowers, ribbons, a homemade congratulatory banner, and heartfelt congratulations all combined to create a warm and inspiring picture.
"You two are the pride of our town! Look at these grades, you'll be college students someday!" Aunt Li excitedly waved the photocopy of the report card in her hand, her eyes sparkling with envy. "If only my son had half the effort you put in."
"Su Mo, I heard there are all sorts of clubs and activities in college. Will you join the basketball team? Remember to include our town's name!" Several teenagers gathered around, their eyes full of anticipation for the future.
"Haha, I'll consider it, but the premise is that Xiaoxue also has to find her interests, and we can grow together." Su Mo smiled and looked at Mo Qingxue, who blushed and nodded. A chorus of "tsk tsk" sounds rang out around them, full of envy.
The celebrations continued until evening before everyone gradually dispersed. Su Mo and Mo Qingxue strolled home as night fell again, but the starlight was exceptionally bright tonight, like the sparks of hope for the future burning in their hearts.
"You know what, Su Mo? Today, Brother Wang's son quietly asked me how we managed to persevere," Mo Qingxue said softly, a hint of pride in her voice.
Su Mo stopped and replied earnestly, "Perhaps it's because we believe that everyone has an inextinguishable flame in their heart, and as long as we find a reason to ignite it, there is no difficulty that cannot be overcome. For us, we are that flame."
Just then, an elderly gentleman passing by overheard their conversation and smiled, saying, "Young people, your words remind me of my own youth. Remember, life is not just about the road ahead, but also about the scenery along the way. It's a rare blessing that you can support each other like this. Keep moving forward; the future belongs to brave people like you."
The old man's words were like a warm current, warming their hearts. The two smiled at each other, their understanding unspoken.
“By the way, Su Mo, I have an idea.” Mo Qingxue suddenly stopped, her eyes flashing with a strange light. “Although you are going to university, we can use the holidays to do something meaningful together. For example, we can go back to the town library to volunteer, or open a free tutoring class to help more children like us who dream of flying.”
“Great idea, Xiaoxue! This way we can not only give back to the people in town, but also make our time more valuable.” Su Mo responded excitedly, a new spark igniting in her eyes as well.
As night deepened, the two stood by the window, gazing at the starry sky, their hearts filled with boundless anticipation for the future.
"Su Mo, no matter where we go or what we do in the future, remember this original intention and promise we made today." Mo Qingxue leaned gently on Su Mo's shoulder, her words full of determination.
"Don't worry, Xiaoxue. No matter the wind or rain, we will hold hands tightly and write our story together." Su Mo gently hugged her, his eyes sparkling with fearlessness for the future and deep trust in each other.
