Chapter 39 I lied to you, I'm sorry

Then, as if remembering something, his eyes darted around.

His voice was filled with a hint of excited joy: "You didn't see how ugly Zhou Yong's expression was at the end, it was so satisfying."

"Not only that, but the scene of Wen Zhaonian and Shao Huan fighting in court at that time, I can only say that the trip was really worthwhile, I learned a lot."

"However, it was thanks to the crucial testimonies of Lu Chuan and Dong Zhizhi that he was able to be convicted."

Dong Zhizhi is arguably the key reason for the occurrence of this case.

She was the female protagonist in the incident where Zhou Yong harassed her, and He Yu'an stepped in to help.

In addition, after He Yu'an was dismissed, he overheard Zhou Yong bribing Zhang Daren and the two discussing how to deal with He Yu'an.

He wanted to help He Yu'an clear his name, but he was threatened and has not shown up.

It wasn't until later, when she saw that He Yu'an was still unconscious in the hospital bed because of her, that she felt really bad and that's why she appeared in front of the two of them when Wen Zhaonian was "forced" to invite Li Tangyan to dinner at the beginning.

It became a crucial trump card for Wen Zhaonian's side.

After listening to Yao Qing's long speech, Li Tangyan felt a little relieved, even though it was a pity that she couldn't make it in time.

However, in just a moment, Li Tangyan's relaxed mood quickly returned as she recalled everything she had known before fainting.

At the same time, something else made her feel as if she had been hit by something with a muffled sound.

During the time she had just fainted, aside from some random dreams, she remembered something else.

Li Tangyan finally remembered what she had said to Wen Zhaonian when she was drunk last time.

—Wen Zhaonian, I'm going to S City.

As she thought about it, her free hand unconsciously tugged at the blanket covering her.

His voice was still a little hoarse as he spoke: "So...where is he now?"

"You mean Wen Zhaonian? He—"

Before Yao Qing could finish speaking, she heard the sound of the ward door opening again.

Behind her, Xu Miaomiao and Wen Zhao came into Li Tangyan's view.

Wen Zhaonian had changed out of his lawyer's robe, revealing his distinct features, but his eyes still held a thin layer of coolness before he saw her.

Their eyes met in mid-air, but in an instant, Li Tangyan looked away.

Her curled eyelashes trembled, and as she lowered her gaze, the darkness in her eyes was concealed.

At the same time, the tips of her fingers, which were gripping the sheet, turned white from her unconscious movements.

Xu Miaomiao noticed immediately that something was wrong with Li Tangyan. The sudden drop in Li Tangyan's mood made Xu Miaomiao's brows furrow involuntarily.

Immediately, she went over and helped Yao Qing up.

His tone was flat, without any discernible emotion: "Yao Qing, let's go out first."

"Hey, but I haven't had enough time yet."

Yao Qing was completely bewildered, but before she could react, Xu Miaomiao had already pulled her out.

As the door closed again, a moment of silence fell over the ward.

Wen Zhaonian walked to the bedside, pulled up a chair, and sat down next to it.

The chair is small, so much so that sitting down always makes you feel a bit constrained.

Before her, Li Tangyan kept her eyes down, and her slightly long hair fell down with her movements.

The whiteness at her fingertips betrayed her nervousness.

Without realizing it, his narrow, phoenix-shaped eyes narrowed slightly, and his dark gaze fixed intently on her, as if filled with unspeakable thoughts.

The atmosphere seemed to freeze for a moment as the two remained silent, and at the same time, time seemed to stretch out as if someone had pressed the multiplier button.

Suddenly, the blanket that Li Tangyan was tightly clutching was pulled out.

Then came the warmth covering the back of my hand.

Under my gaze, the veins on the back of my hand, with its distinct knuckles, are faintly visible, and the large palm covering my body brings a touch of warmth.

As the barely audible sigh faded into the air, Wen Zhaonian's voice grew somewhat heavy: "Are you still feeling very uncomfortable?"

As soon as she finished speaking, Li Tangyan simply shook her head and remained silent.

After a while, Wen Zhaonian felt the hand under his palm curl up again.

Then I saw her raise her head.

The moment their eyes met, I saw that those clear eyes were now misty with a thin layer of water.

Li Tangyan's voice was very soft, so soft that it seemed as if it would dissipate into the air if one were not careful: "Wen Zhaonian".

"I want to go home."

*

When the car stopped downstairs at Li Tangyan's house, Li Tangyan did not get out of the car immediately.

There was a small transparent skin patch on the back of the hand that was gripping the seat belt.

The car window was slightly ajar, and a cool breeze rushed in, bringing a chill to the cramped space.

The sky outside the window was still gloomy. Under the residential building, several children were hiding to the side, piling up the snow that had just fallen and hadn't yet melted.

Loud laughter could be heard from time to time, creating a stark contrast with the silence inside the car.

"Chestnut porridge".

"Um?"

Is there something you want to say?

The grainy sound was like a needle falling in a quiet room in a small space.

When Wen Zhaonian leaned over to unbuckle her seatbelt, the shadow he cast seemed to pull her completely into his arms.

Her entire figure was reflected in his dark eyes, as calm as a still lake, yet seemingly able to see into people's hearts.

“…”

Under my gaze, I could see that the lips, which had just regained some color, were bitten again, leaving shallow marks between the teeth.

With both hands resting on her knees, her bent fingertips unconsciously pinched the web between the thumb and forefinger of her other hand.
