Chapter 43 This matter must be kept secret

"I need to ask her something," Song Xu said, rubbing his forehead.

Lin Xi saw Song Chen as if he were her savior. "Attorney Song, you've come at the right time. Mr. Song has had too much to drink. Could you help him back to his bedroom?"

"Drunk on drinks?" Song Chen raised an eyebrow and looked over. He knew exactly how much Song Xu could drink. He had drunk quite a bit today, but not to the point of being drunk.

Song Xu stood up, swaying slightly, and stretched out his arm to Song Chen, "Brother, I'm dizzy, help me up."

Song Chen didn't expose him. He went over, took Song Xu's arm, and led him out of Lin Xi's room. Before leaving, he didn't forget to remind him, "Lock the door when you go to sleep tonight."

Lin Xi nodded. She would lock the door even without Song Chen's reminder; drunk men don't think straight.

After the Song brothers left, Lin Xi closed and locked the door, deciding to clean the dining room and kitchen tomorrow morning.

Song Chen released Song Xu, "Stop pretending."

Song Xu straightened up, his expression somewhat unnatural. "Brother, why aren't you asleep yet?"

"You've developed feelings for Lin Xi." Song Chen didn't answer Song Xu's question, but instead asked a serious and affirmative question.

Song Xu didn't speak; there were some things he couldn't tell his brother yet.

Song Chen assumed that Song Xu had tacitly agreed, and he became somewhat irritated. "Xiao Xu, I've told you before, you and Lin Xi can't work out, your family won't agree, and this will only hurt her."

“Brother,” Song Xu didn’t know how to explain, so he sighed deeply, “I know my limits.”

“You’d better understand,” Song Chen glanced at him, “Go back to your room and rest.”

Song Xu returned to his room, put the cigarette butt and toothbrush into his briefcase, and would know the results tomorrow.

If Lin Xi really is his brother's biological sister...

Song Xu rubbed his face; this might be a good excuse.

The next morning, Song Xu walked out of the room with his briefcase.

The restaurant and kitchen were spotless, and breakfast was laid out on the table. Song Chen had arrived earlier and was already eating.

"Xiao Xu, come and have breakfast," Song Chen waved to him, "Today we have shrimp dumplings."

Song Xu walked to the dining table and saw the glistening shrimp dumplings on the plate. They looked very appetizing.

He sat down, picked up a shrimp dumpling, took a bite, and found it to be bouncy and delicious, no worse than those in restaurants.

"Lin Xi's cooking skills are really good," Song Chen praised while eating, "It's making me want to try it too."

Song Xu was stunned. "Brother, you've fallen for Lin Xi?"

“It’s love at first sight,” Song Chen corrected. “I also want Lin Xi to be my personal nanny.”

So that's what it was about. Song Xu's stiff body relaxed. "Anyway, you live here most of the time, so what difference does it make whether it's mine or yours?"

Song Chen smiled and didn't say anything more.

"Where's Lin Xi?" Song Xu asked casually when he didn't see Lin Xi.

"She should be in her room. I didn't see her when I came out," Song Chen glanced at the spotless house and asked curiously, "When did she clean it?"

“She gets up at five o’clock and goes to bed around eleven o’clock; that’s always been her schedule,” Song Xu explained.

Song Chen raised an eyebrow. "This work schedule is good. It matches my work schedule perfectly. I can take her on an internship in the future."

"Brother, aren't you being a little too nice to Lin Xi?" Song Xu frowned slightly. His brother had never been this enthusiastic towards anyone else.

Song Chen did not deny it and nodded, "I have a strange sense of closeness to her, a feeling of déjà vu."

Song Xu stopped talking and just kept eating shrimp dumplings.

After breakfast, Song Xu and Song Chen went out together to the parking lot.

Song Xu walked towards his blue sports car, while Song Chen walked to the black Rolls-Royce Phantom parked to the side.

Song Chen opened the car door, but didn't get in. He turned to Song Xu and said, "Xiao Xu, I'm not coming back tonight. Mom wants me to go back to the old house."

"Why didn't she ask me to go back with her?" Song Xu asked, somewhat puzzled.

Song Chen sighed, "I guess they want me to go back and talk about blind dates."

"Okay, good luck!" Song Xu shrugged; there was nothing he could do to help.

Song Xu drove his sports car to the company. He passed by Zhang Qing's office and knocked on the door. "Zhang Qing, come here for a moment."

After saying that, he went into the general manager's office next door.

Zhang Qing followed closely behind Song Xu, "President Song, what are your instructions?"

"Go get me a kinship test done," Song Xu handed two samples to Zhang Qing. "Express, preferably today."

“Yes, Mr. Song,” Zhang Qing felt the bag in his hand was incredibly heavy. Could it contain some secret of a wealthy family? “I’ll go right away.”

"Wait," Song Xu called out to Zhang Qing, whispering, "Keep it a secret, don't tell anyone."

"I understand!" Zhang Qing nodded and turned to leave.

...

Lin Xi was very busy that morning because she had just opened her business. Her products had been listed on the platform for less than 24 hours when people started inquiring and placing orders.

What caught her eye was a watch belonging to Shen Yan, with a market price of around 220,000 to 230,000 yuan, which she priced at 200,000 yuan.

The seller is from the same city and asked to see the goods. If they are suitable, they can make a face-to-face transaction, which would save the platform's commission.

Lin Xi hesitated for a moment, then agreed to the seller's suggestion. Anyway, if the seller didn't want it anymore, she would just take it back, at most paying a little for travel expenses.

The seller sent the location, and Lin Xi opened it to see that it was 800 meters away from the apartment, a ten-minute walk.

So close, Lin Xi had no more reservations. She carefully wrapped the watch and put it in her canvas bag.

Lin Xi's feet still hurt a little when she walked, so she walked very slowly.

Twenty minutes later, she arrived at the meeting location sent by the seller, which was on a commercial street. She messaged the seller to say that she had arrived.

A few minutes later, a middle-aged man in a sharp suit walked up to Lin Xi and asked, "Are you feeling quite pleased with yourself?"

"Xi Ran Zi De" was the online name Lin Xi chose on the platform. Lin Xi nodded. "That's me. Are you the one who wants to buy a watch?"

The middle-aged man looked Lin Xi up and down, a hint of disdain flashing in his eyes. He held out his hand, "Where's the goods? Let me see."

Lin Xi hated the disdainful looks from men, but she had to endure it for the sake of doing business, and handed her watch to the middle-aged man.

The middle-aged man opened the box to take the watch out.

Lin Xi stopped the man, "Sir, taking it out outdoors could easily damage the watch. Let's find a place to sit down and examine it at our leisure."

A watch worth 200,000 yuan is an astronomical price for Lin Xi; she couldn't afford to pay for it even if it got slightly damaged.

The middle-aged man glanced at his watch, closed the box, pointed to the shop behind him, and said, "Let's do it here then, and check if it's real or fake while we're at it."

Lin Xi looked up at the shop's signboard, which read "Secondhand Luxury Goods Recycling Shop." Only then did she realize that she had been tricked into coming here.

"I'm not selling it anymore, just give me back the watch." Lin Xi reached for the watch.

The middle-aged man raised the watch to avoid him, saying, "Since you're already here, let's check it out. If it's real, we can pay right away. We won't give you a low price, how about 100,000?"
