Chapter 44 Wait for me to come pick you up!
One hundred thousand? Lin Xi wanted to curse him as "shameless," this price was robbery.
"Give it back to me!" Lin Xi said with a stern face. "If you don't give it back, I'll call for help."
"Who are you yelling at? How can you prove this watch is yours?" the middle-aged man sneered. "Do you have a purchase invoice?"
Upon hearing this, Lin Xi knew she was in trouble; she had encountered a scoundrel who was about to rob her.
She glanced around and saw that there was only a security camera at the entrance of the secondhand luxury goods recycling shop, but even if there was a recording, she wouldn't be able to get it.
"Young lady, judging by your attire, you definitely can't afford this watch," the middle-aged man said smugly. "This watch must have some questionable history, right?"
It was either stolen or obtained through prostitution.
“I’ve already offered a very high price,” the middle-aged man continued, trying to persuade Lin Xi, “Aren’t you afraid of causing trouble at the police station?”
As the middle-aged man spoke, he walked into the shop, saying, "I'll check the goods first."
She couldn't let him take the watch; who knew if it would be switched inside? Lin Xi grabbed the man's clothes and shouted, "Indecent assault! Please call the police!"
"What are you yelling about!" The man panicked; he never expected Lin Xi to shout "molestation."
If someone shouts "robbery," few people will come to their aid. But if someone shouts "molestation," it's a different story. People will stop to watch, and some righteous young women will even call the police.
Lin Xi clung tightly to the man, and soon a crowd gathered around, pointing and whispering about him.
"I didn't molest her!" the man tried to argue.
An older woman watching the commotion curled her lip and said, "You look all dressed up, but your heart is really dirty."
"I really didn't molest her." The man panicked, and people started throwing trash at him.
Lin Xi felt secretly pleased, wanting to let this man experience what it felt like to be wronged.
She held onto the man's clothes tightly with both hands, so there was no way she could get away with anything she said.
I don't know who called the police, but the police car arrived very quickly.
"What happened?" the police officer asked.
One concerned viewer commented, "This man sexually assaulted this young girl."
The police officer looked the two over, and after recognizing Lin Xi's appearance, he had no suspicions whatsoever. He deliberately softened his voice, "Young lady, did this man molest you?"
Lin Xi neither confirmed nor denied it, but pointed to the box containing the watch in the man's hand and said, "He also stole my things."
The combination of assault and robbery was even worse. The police didn't give the man a chance to argue; they took the stolen goods and put him in the police car.
Lin Xi naturally got into the police car as well.
This was her second time at the police station, so she had some experience.
When taking statements from the two men, the conversation only revolved around the watch, and Lin Xi did not mention the alleged molestation again.
The middle-aged man was furious. He was the owner of a second-hand shop and usually found individual sellers on second-hand platforms, arranged to meet them, and then bought their products at a low price.
When he saw Lin Xi today, he was still feeling fortunate, thinking that the deal was in the bag. No wonder she listed the price so low, he could get it at an even lower price.
He never expected to run into such a tough opponent today; he had truly underestimated this girl.
"Officer, I just wanted to buy back this watch at a normal price. But when I mentioned I wanted it inspected, she panicked. You should investigate how she got this watch."
"As a professional, I can tell you that the market price of this watch is between 230,000 and 250,000. Do you think she can afford it?" the man kindly reminded her.
The police began questioning Lin Xi, "Young lady, is this watch yours? Is there a purchase record?"
Lin Xi shook her head. "This watch isn't mine; it belongs to my friend. He asked me to help him sell it."
"Then have your friend come over and act as a witness for you. It would be best if he brought the purchase invoice or payment receipt," the policeman said.
Lin Xi took out her phone and dialed Shen Yan's voice call, but Shen Yan didn't answer even after five or six attempts.
Considering Shen Yan's schedule, Lin Xi gave up.
But if she doesn't find Shen Yan, she won't be leaving the police station today.
At this moment, she regretted not having Song Chen's contact information. Even if she couldn't contact Shen Yan, contacting Lawyer Song could have solved the problem.
But given the current situation, she has no choice but to ask Song Xu for help.
Lin Xi was anxious and didn't send a message to Song Xu, but instead dialed his voice call directly.
At this moment, Song Xu was in a meeting at the company, his mind filled with the kinship test report, which showed that Lin Xi and his brother were not related by blood.
Did he get the wrong person? That shouldn't be the case. He even had someone inquire around the neighborhood of the tenement building. Lin Xi did have an older brother who went missing more than ten years ago.
The age and time match up, and the beauty mark under Lin Xi's left eye is the same as the little girl in the photo; they also look very similar.
Why not? What has he been up to all this time?
Since Lin Xi isn't his biological sister, should he still keep her at home? Should he continue to pay for her grandmother's medical expenses?
But what reason could he give to make Lin Xi leave?
Just as he was struggling with this decision, his phone, which wasn't on silent, suddenly rang.
The meeting room fell silent instantly. Song Xu's thoughts were interrupted, and he felt very irritated.
He picked up his phone without even checking who was calling, and swiped the screen randomly to hang up, but unexpectedly the call was connected and the speakerphone was turned on.
Song Xu was completely unaware that just as he placed his phone face down on the table, a girl's anxious voice came from inside: "Mr. Song, can you help me?"
The conference room was completely silent. Everyone looked at Song Xu in shock. Who was this person?
Song Xu quickly picked up his phone, stood up, and left the meeting room, turning off the speakerphone as he walked. He put the phone to his ear and asked, "Hello? What happened?"
"President Song, can you help me get in touch with Shen Yan? I need to speak to him urgently." Lin Xi's voice was trembling with tears; you could tell she was extremely anxious.
"What do you want with him?" Song Xu was particularly displeased when he heard that Lin Xi wanted to see Chen Yan. "What can he possibly do?"
Lin Xi was almost in tears. "I'm at the police station. The police asked me to bring him here to provide proof that the watch he left with me is his."
"Why are you in the police station again?" Song Xu asked helplessly.
Lin Xi briefly recounted what had happened. "President Song, I can't leave the police station until I find Shen Yan."
Just as Song Xu was about to reprimand Lin Xi again, he heard a man's voice coming from the phone.
"Officer, I told you that the watch was shady. She called for so long, but either no one answered or she just randomly picked someone to call. This 'General Manager Song' thing, I don't know which company he's from. Maybe he's the general manager of the small supermarket downstairs from her house."
Song Xu laughed after hearing this, and said to Lin Xi, "Which police station? Send me the location, and I'll come pick you up."
