Chapter Seven

Xu Weiwei frowned and said, "I think it's worth a try. What if a miracle happens to you? Don't give up, muster your courage, and do it!"

Li Nan shook her head and said, "There's no need for that. I really don't want to experience the bitterness of love. Also, I don't like gambling, just like I've never bought a lottery ticket."

I never do things that I know will end badly, or that have only a tiny chance of success. I only do things that I'm absolutely certain I can succeed at.

You know what? From childhood to adulthood, almost everything I've really wanted to do and made a plan for has come true. That's because I never think about doing things that I'm unlikely to accomplish.

Why should a miracle happen to me? I don't believe it. I'm already lucky enough to have gotten into a good film crew at such a young age, all because my parents are very good.

They love me and are willing to follow my opinions, which made me an actress. My dad or mom would come to accompany me every time I was filming, so I wasn't alone.

I am my parents' only child. My family owns a company, and my parents are the bosses. Even when they accompany me to filming, they can work remotely using their computers, so it won't interfere with their own work.

When I grew up, I actually asked my parents for their opinion. They said that I didn't want to date or have children, so our family line might not continue.

My parents are very open-minded. They comforted me by saying that there's no such thing as inheritance anymore. Their names were given by the orphanage director. Besides, all those so-called inheritances are just about having boys.

That system is too outdated; the younger generation doesn't like such terrible traditions. It's best if it's not there. My parents started from scratch; they were both top students, childhood sweethearts, and grew up in an orphanage.

Actually, I witnessed what true love is like, and it was truly beautiful. The most vivid memory I have is of the day we went shopping at the supermarket.

I bought a ton of snacks. We originally drove here, but my mom suddenly decided to walk back. Of course, I disagreed. It would be stupid to walk when there's a car available.

I don't like this strenuous mode of transportation, but my dad supports my mom, and the minority has to obey the majority, so I had no choice but to walk. Halfway there, my mom got tired.

So my dad carried my mom on his back, his expression incredibly gentle, his smile sweet and tolerant. I thought he would scold my mom, since I'd seen this before, but he didn't.

At that moment, I realized how much my dad truly loved my mom. After all these years, their relationship was still so strong—it was amazing. The more beautiful something is, the further away it seems from me. I was once again certain that I could never have such a beautiful love.

Also, whenever my dad or mom accompanies me to film a movie, the three of us make sure to get together every three days. This is because my parents can't be separated for too long; they miss each other so much that they try every possible way to meet.

I am so lucky to have such loving parents and to be working in a field I love. How could I be so greedy as to ask for love?

Moreover, despite witnessing my father's various romantic gestures towards my mother, I found myself unable to do those things if I put myself in their shoes.

I probably love myself more. I don't think I value love that much. I like myself this way. Although I'm different from my parents, there's no rule that I have to be the same as others.

The most touching thing I've ever heard my dad say to my mom is, "I hope that every day of my life will be connected with you, without any gaps."

That's true. I heard that the orphanage my parents went to when they were young was very poor. There was only one staff member, the director, and the boys and girls lived together without being separated because there weren't enough beds and bedding.

My parents grew up under the same quilt, ate from the same bowl, and went to school together—the same school, the same grade, the same class. They were practically conjoined twins, never separated.

When my parents are not together, we video call each other, and the call is almost always connected. Except in special circumstances, we never hang up.

Do you understand why my need in a relationship is to be constantly clingy? It's because my parents are like that, and I long for the kind of love they have, but I know I can never truly have that kind of love.

Xu Weiwei was taken aback and exclaimed, "Wow, Auntie and Uncle are so loving! I'm almost tempted to ship them! I love shipping ordinary people too. I just enjoy shipping couples and indulging in sweet moments about love."

And look at your face, you're so beautiful, your uncle must be a handsome man and your aunt must be a great beauty, that's why you inherited such good genes, right?

A child's appearance is determined by their parents' genes, and I'm guessing your parents are definitely very good-looking. That's wonderful! It's just a pity your parents work in finance, not entertainment.

Li Nan smiled gently and said, "Cough cough, it's alright. Looks are just external things, and we shouldn't be too superficial. I'm someone who pursues inner beauty; true beauty lies in the soul."

But I'm very happy that you complimented me on my looks. You're absolutely right, my dad is indeed handsome, and my mom is a beauty. I inherited their good looks.

When our family of three goes out, we always attract a lot of attention. Every time we go out, many people turn around to look at us. There's no way around it; we're just too good-looking and stand out too much in a crowd.

Some people even recognize me, have seen my movies, and ask for photos or autographs, which I of course obliged. Anyway, my photos are all over the internet; a simple search will tell you what I look like.

Actually, I've found that people who follow celebrities are a small minority. Just like I never watch TV dramas, if an actor only acts in TV dramas, even if he's in the entertainment industry, I won't know him. No matter how good his acting is, I won't know him, and I won't have any way to get to know him.

Similarly, not many people can actually recognize me. They might see my face in a movie or TV show and feel like they've seen me somewhere before, but they can't remember exactly where.

I never need to disguise myself when I go out. I don't need to wear a mask, hat, or sunglasses. I can just walk openly on the street, and hardly anyone recognizes me.

Even if I am good-looking, people will only glance at me a few times and then move on. Most people are focused on themselves and don't have the time to constantly care about others.

So, I think those so-called celebrities who deliberately make a big fuss about their outings are just crazy and insane. They must have so much free time!

In particular, when I was researching boy bands, I saw a boy band that had a fan signing event. After arriving at the airport, they hired about fifty bodyguards who held hands and formed a large circle to protect all the members of the boy band.

But there are only three fans. This boy band already has more members than the number of fans who came to greet them at the airport. It's ridiculous that they need so many people to protect them.

To passersby, it looked like monkeys performing a monkey show. All I can say is that I thought the members of that boy band had amazing mental fortitude; they were able to put up with it.

If it were me, I would have run away long ago. This is just too embarrassing and shameful. Besides, this large group of people actually caused a lot of trouble for airport travelers.

They were moving very slowly, and with so many people crammed into one place, it was inconvenient for passersby to move around. However, most passersby were kind and didn't complain; instead, they tried to find their own solutions.

Furthermore, it's true that boy band staff will hire people to pretend to be fans at the airport, then fake their popularity and post it online to deliberately create hype.

Like a duck neck seller I once knew, he spent a lot of money to hire a live streamer to promote his products. Every time he went live, he had 200,000 fans watching online. But in the end, he found that the live streamer didn't sell a single item of his products.

He then realized that the entire live stream was filled with fake viewers; there were no real people watching, and the gifts and comments were all generated by fake accounts. Online scams are really easy to pull off; anyone without a brain can easily fall for it.

That duck neck shop owner had always run a physical store, an offline business, and had never encountered false advertising before. He just saw that online shopping and live-streaming e-commerce were so popular that he felt he had to keep up with the trend.

Moreover, they were very honest and didn't engage in any pretentious practices. They settled the payment before letting the livestreamer sell their products, so the livestreamer felt like they had the money.

He finally made a fortune, so he no longer needed to spend money on online trolls to generate fake traffic for himself. He figured that making money once was a huge win, and he didn't care about the consequences.

He didn't promise beforehand how much stock he would bring in. The fact that the goods aren't selling isn't his fault; it's because the product is bad, and his viewers in the livestream don't like it, which is why they're not buying it. Anyway, he's not wrong.

He was such a shameless scoundrel. Later, after learning his lesson, the duck neck shop owner never wanted to follow trends again and insisted on sticking to offline business.

It's very difficult to protect your rights because the duck neck boss always emphasizes treating people sincerely. There was no signed contract with the streamer, only a verbal agreement made over the phone. There were no recordings or anything, so there was no substantial evidence.

He always did business like this before. Maybe he was just lucky and always met good people. Anyway, he has never lost money since he started selling duck necks.

This was the first time he had been taken advantage of, and he learned a lesson. He decided that next time he dealt with strangers, he would only give a deposit and pay the full amount only after the matter was completed and the result satisfied him.

As for his old acquaintances, he would still pay them in advance, after all, they had cooperated for so many years, and he trusted them. He also realized that sometimes it's not necessary to always follow the trend of the times.

I would say that this is indeed the case. The main focus of each era is different, and many people may make plans for promising jobs first.

But those so-called eliminated ones are not useless. To be honest, I already have a lot of money in my life. The main reason I participated in the variety show is that I like it, and the second reason is that I have a lot of money.

If I don't like it, I won't come even if there's a lot of money. I feel very relaxed recording variety shows; I don't have to act, and I can observe life at any time, which is very interesting.

Variety shows have scripts, but sometimes unexpected situations arise during filming, and things don't go according to the script. I have witnessed firsthand the ugliness and beauty of human nature.

I used to be incredibly confused as to why some people are such great actors, yet turn out to be terrible people in real life. Later, I realized that ability and character are not correlated; they are not directly proportional.
