Chapter 512: Don’t Be Soft-Hearted

Chapter 512: Don’t Be Soft-Hearted

But reason told her not to be soft-hearted.

She turned her face away in embarrassment, her voice trembling slightly: "Chi Wenyan,...you bastard!"

After saying that, she opened the door and almost ran away.

Back at the villa, Ji Wan looked in the mirror at himself with disheveled clothes and swollen lips, and his cheeks began to burn uncontrollably again.

She took a few deep breaths, trying to calm her pounding heart, then picked up her phone and dialed Fu Chen.

"Hello, Fu Chen," her voice was still a little unstable, "I'm sorry, I have something urgent to do, just now..."

"It's okay," Fu Chen's voice was still gentle, "Are you okay? Do you need help?"

"I'm fine. I'm just sorry for embarrassing you and ruining our dinner." Ji Wan really felt bad.

"It's just a small matter, don't take it to heart. Have a good rest."

"Well, thank you, Fu Chen."

After hanging up the phone, Ji Wan fell exhaustedly on the sofa. All he could think about was Chi Wenyan’s injured and crazy eyes, and his words, “Why can’t you love me too?”

Her heart was in a mess.

The early morning sunlight filtered through the gauze curtains, dappling onto Ji Wan's face.

She barely slept all night.

Chi Wenyan's aggrieved words, "Why can't you love me too," were like a thorn that pierced deep into her heart.

There was also that domineering and desperate kiss. The numbing feeling on her lips seemed not to have completely dissipated, and every breath carried his lingering scent.

Scratching his hair irritably, Ji Wan threw back the quilt and got out of bed.

I walked into the kitchen and opened the refrigerator, and found that all the ingredients were available.

At a glance, she saw the fresh shrimp, minced pork, and the wonton wrappers she had bought a few days ago.

For some unknown reason, she took it out.

Chi Wenyan likes to eat the shrimp wontons she makes. In the past, she would always patiently chop the stuffing and season them on weekend mornings, then wrap them one by one and cook them for him.

Why did she do that?

Ji Wan herself couldn't explain it. Perhaps it was the deep redness in his eyes and the almost humble plea he made last night that touched the softest part of her heart. Or perhaps it was just habit.

She shook her head, stopped thinking, lowered her head and began to process the ingredients carefully.

The crisp sound of chopping meat was particularly clear in the quiet villa.

When a bowl of steaming wontons garnished with green onions and seaweed and shrimp skin was served on the table, footsteps were heard on the stairs.

Chi Wenyan walked downstairs in a dark grey home suit, his hair a little disheveled and his eyes slightly dark, clearly not having slept well. His usual fierce aura had faded considerably, replaced by a touch of homely laziness and fatigue.

When he saw the familiar bowl of wontons on the table, he stopped in his tracks.

The air was stagnant for a moment.

Ji Wan was lowering her head to serve herself some porridge, pretending not to see his shocked expression.

"You..." Chi Wenyan walked to the dining table, his voice slightly hoarse and trembling, "You did it?"

Ji Wan paused while scooping the porridge, without looking up, and just said "hmm" lightly.

"Shrimp filling?" he asked again, staring at the bowl of wontons with burning eyes, as if he wanted to see through it.

"If you don't like it, just throw it away." Ji Wan finally raised his head, his tone still cold, but his ears were slightly hot.

At this moment, Chi Wenyan's heart felt like it was being gently kneaded by a warm hand, feeling sore and swollen yet soft. He pulled out a chair and sat down, picked up a spoon, carefully scooped up a wonton, blew on it, and put it into his mouth.

The delicious soup, the chewy shrimps, and the familiar taste instantly filled his mouth, warming his stomach and soothing his heart that had been restless all night due to anxiety.

"Delicious." He whispered, his voice thick with nasal sounds, and his eyes couldn't help but feel hot. He looked up at Ji Wan, his eyes complicated and scorching, "Wan Wan, you..."

"I just made it." Ji Wan interrupted him, not wanting him to misunderstand anything. "Wash the dishes after you finish eating. I have something to go out for today."

"Where are you going?" Chi Wenyan asked immediately, his heart, which had finally calmed down, became tense again.

"It has nothing to do with you." Ji Wan responded coldly. After finishing the porridge in his bowl, he stood up and prepared to go upstairs to change clothes.

Chi Wenyan looked at her resolute back, and the warmth that had just risen in his heart was instantly extinguished.

He lowered his head and ate the wontons bite by bite, taking each one seriously as if they were the most precious delicacy in the world. Wanwan had made these for him personally, and even if she wouldn't admit it, he knew she still had him in her heart.

Definitely.

Ji Wan was indeed busy. She decided to restart her career and open her own design company.

Later, after the divorce, she needed financial independence, and more importantly, a job that allowed her to devote herself fully and temporarily forget all these troubles.

These days, she has been looking for a suitable office location.

It was a midsummer afternoon, the sun blazing fiercely. There was not a breath of wind in the air, and the heat was scorching the earth. Ji Wan had already looked at several office buildings under the scorching sun, but he wasn't satisfied with any of them.

She wiped the sweat from her forehead, feeling a little dizzy. The last location her agent recommended was in a new creative park in the west of the city. It was said to have a good environment and relatively reasonable rent.

Ji Wan took a sip of water and took a taxi.

The park is indeed quiet and beautifully landscaped, and the stand-alone buildings are also very stylish. She chose a two-story house with a small courtyard, which has excellent lighting and a structure that is easy to renovate.

Just as she was discussing the details with the real estate agent and preparing to sign the letter of intent, she felt a strong sense of dizziness. Ji Wan's vision went dark, her body swayed, and she felt like the world was spinning.

"Miss Ji!, Miss Ji! What's wrong with you?" The real estate agent exclaimed and quickly supported her.

Ji Wan only felt a buzzing in his ears, and his whole body was weak. He didn't even have the strength to open his eyes.

She had heatstroke.

When I regained consciousness, the pungent smell of disinfectant lingered in my nose.

She opened her eyes with great effort, and what came into view was a snow-white ceiling.

Is she... in the hospital?

Her head still hurt a little, so she propped herself up with her arms and tried to sit up.

"Are you awake? How do you feel?" a gentle female voice came.

Ji Wan turned her head and saw a young female doctor in a white coat standing by the bed, looking at her with concern.

"I,...I have heatstroke?" Ji Wan's voice was a little weak.

"Yes, a mild case of heatstroke and some hypoglycemia. I gave you some glucose. You'll be fine after some rest," the female doctor said with a smile. "Your friend has already gone to handle the paperwork and payment for you."

Friends? When did she have a friend? Could it be the real estate agent?

Just as I was wondering, the door of the ward was pushed open.

A tall and familiar figure walked in, and Ji Wan's heart skipped a beat.

Chi Wenyan!
