Chapter Ninety-Eight: Chicago News

Monaco's television stations can naturally be searched to the United States. Ivan switched the program to ABC, the largest television station in the United States with the most viewers. Ivan put down the remote control.

They waited patiently for a while, and before they knew it, quite a few people had sat down behind them, and they all watched TV together...

Soon, it was time for the news, and Ivan perked up, "Here it comes!"

The first few news items were international, nothing more than which head of state visited another country, signed this or that contract, and confirmed this or that cooperation. Everyone shook hands with smiles, but in their hearts they were calculating how much flesh and blood they could cut from the man they shook hands with.

Politics and business have always been interconnected, as can be seen from the case of Lü Buwei.

However, the young people present weren't interested in any of this. They were all like guys with canes in their hands but festering sores on their feet—who would care about such things? What they cared about was the news that would follow.

Morgan's news.

A middle-aged man in a suit appeared on the television screen. He looked like a government official being interviewed by a reporter, and their subsequent questions and answers confirmed Duanmu Ci's guess.

The official sat in his office chair, talking at length about how the Morgan family's acquisition of The Magnificent would have a positive and beneficial impact on Chicago's finances and citizens, how much tax revenue would increase, and so on. In short, this street had been wasted before, but now that The Magnificent was in the hands of the Morgan family, it had finally found its rightful owner.

Duanmu Ci was practically ecstatic. He hadn't expected the Morgan family to go to such lengths to create a media frenzy, even making it into the news. The American media never refused a request from a wealthy tycoon, especially a legitimate one like this. And the protagonist of the news was none other than a legendary American family; they never turned down news with sensationalism and attention-grabbing potential.

Ivan and the others looked at Duanmu Ci with schadenfreude. He had lost face in front of the whole world. Even if ordinary people didn't know what was going on, how could these so-called "upper class" not know? They all thought that Duanmu Ci had been made a fool of this time. He thought that his buyer was the government, but the government turned around and transferred the goods to his opponent.

This own goal was so big, it was even more classic than the own goals in the World Cup!

Ivan, arms outstretched, waited to see the spectacle unfold, no longer bothering with maintaining any semblance of aristocratic "noble compassion." "You little brat, you've won my money..."

Duanmu Ci, however, laughed inwardly without showing any emotion. Morgan wanted him to embarrass himself in front of the whole world? Very well. He had been thinking about how to escalate the situation and bribe the media, but he hadn't expected Morgan to do it all herself and save him a lot of public relations fees. She was such a thoughtful little princess!

The news did indeed spread worldwide as Morgan had hoped, but Duanmu Ci felt it was still up for debate who would be responsible for the embarrassment...
