The Magnificent Mile, meaning "A Magnificent Mile" or "A Grand Avenue," is a street that, if radiating outwards, could almost form a "district." Centered on Michigan Avenue, it stretches from the Chicago River northwards to Oak Street, lined with various brand-name stores, upscale hotels, and famous buildings, making it one of the most bustling commercial streets in downtown Chicago.
After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the city was almost completely rebuilt. Top architects from all over the world used Chicago as a blank canvas to create beautiful pictures, and the Magnificent Mile is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful strokes.
Duanmu Ci is walking in this "most beautiful stroke" at this moment.
After getting a feel for the situation in Monaco and taking a shortcut to defeat Ivan, he flew from France to Chicago. After all, confronting Morgan was a big deal. Although he trusted his old butler's abilities, the old butler was getting old and couldn't handle some things, so he had to come in person.
Holding a cup of hot milk tea, Duanmu Ci wandered aimlessly. He suddenly realized that strolling along the magnificent avenue in the soft sunlight of the morning was actually a very pleasant thing. Especially on this early spring weekend, the streets were less busy than usual, and passersby could quietly appreciate the colorful scenery that adorned the city.
Looking out into the distance, you can see Chicago's iconic John Hancock Center standing tall, one of the tallest buildings in the world! The ground floor houses a massive shopping mall, and visitors can also ascend to the top floor for panoramic views of the city.
It's like a lighthouse standing on the banks of the Chicago River.
"I really hate to part with it." Duanmu Ci sighed slowly, lowering his head to drink his milk tea.
No one would be willing to sell such a bustling street, not even Duanmu Ci, who owns countless prime properties. But what could he do? How can a hunter catch a tiger without putting in the effort to dig a deep pit? You need to use the right bait to catch the right fish! Otherwise, your bait won't even be enough for the tiger to swallow whole, so how can you have a chance of catching it?
Back in the day, Ren Gongzi used oxen as bait in the East China Sea, thus catching a giant whale; while ordinary people used earthworms and grains as bait, only catching small fish. The Morgan family, from any perspective, is a big fish, a giant whale. How can you catch such a fish without sufficient bait? If you only use a small pheasant as bait, it will swallow the hook and bait whole without any effort. How can you possibly catch it then?
The ancient Chinese were the most simple and honest people. They used the most straightforward language to express the highest level of fishing: "You can't catch a wolf without risking your cub."
Fortunately, Morgan really liked the "bait" that Duanmu Ci threw out. He swallowed it whole after a few twists and turns, and even let out a satisfied burp after eating it. He was completely unaware that there was a hook in the "bait" that was currently hooked to his upper jaw, ready to pull him out of the water at any time and make his mouth a bloody mess.
Duanmu Ci continued walking and came to a small square, a memorial to the sailors who died in the war. Standing in the center of the square, you could see an old water tower nearby. This Chicago water tower, built in 1869, was constructed from large blocks of limestone. The entire tower has a 13th-century European Gothic style, and looks more like a miniature castle.
It was one of the few buildings that survived the devastating fire that swept through Chicago in 1871. Today, the Chicago Water Tower has become a Chicago landmark and a tourist attraction, no longer used for delivering and pumping water.
"These are all good things!" Duanmu Ci sighed slowly again, lowered his head and finished the hot milk tea in his hand.
If the Morgan family hadn't suddenly gone mad and insisted on showing off their muscles at the Rare Club, Duanmu Ci wouldn't have had the heart to throw out such a glamorous bait. Now, Duanmu Ci only hoped that his hook was strong enough to rip a chunk of flesh from Morgan's mouth when he reeled in the line, so that Morgan wouldn't be able to eat for a long time.
Otherwise, how can I get rid of this knot in my heart?
Fortunately, Morgan and his team made a foolish mistake, contacting the news media to reinforce and amplify the bait they were offering. Duanmu Ci suddenly felt a sense of anticipation; he wondered if Morgan would slap him hard across the face when he finally made his move...
Serves you right for being so impulsive and making a big deal out of it...
"You asked for this." Duanmu Ci suddenly smiled, but the smile was somewhat wicked, seemingly lacking the uprightness of a gentleman. Duanmu Ci quickly examined himself, and when he looked up again, he was a proper person again.
Duanmu Ci suddenly felt a little tired, so he found a carriage by the roadside and got in. He then rode through the streets in this old-fashioned vehicle, just like in Monaco, or like a hundred years ago.
As we rode in the carriage into the heart of the Magnificent Boulevard, the buildings here were even taller and more imposing than those in New York, truly deserving of the name "Magnificent"!
Compared to Chicago, New York is so outdated!
There are many Gothic buildings here, with an ancient style that seems to have been passed down from the Renaissance era, but the United States didn't even exist back then. After passing a small square commemorating a distinguished former mayor, we saw a twin building, the Wiegley Building.
