In the café within the system space, Lu Yin held Lan Yi's hand, her fingertips gently tracing the old scar on the inside of his wrist, her voice trembling slightly: "Lan Yi, in the past two years... have you fallen for someone else?"
Lan Yi's pupils contracted slightly, his Adam's apple bobbed, and after a moment of silence, he slowly raised his head, his eyes filled with weariness and helplessness: "Lu Yin, I've never liked anyone else. These past two years, I've become cold, not because of someone new, but because..."
He paused, his voice low and hoarse: "The car accident two years ago cost me so much. I'm afraid of losing you again, afraid of losing you like I lost Xiaoxue. So, I chose to run away, using indifference to protect myself, and to protect you."
Tears welled up in Lu Yin's eyes as she gripped his hand tightly: "Lan Yi, why won't you talk? Why did you lock yourself away?"
Lan Yi gently stroked her cheek with his fingertips, his voice trembling slightly: "Because I don't want you to see my vulnerable side. I don't want you to worry, and I don't want you to suffer because of my past."
He paused, a resolute glint in his eyes: "But today, I want to tell you, I have never liked anyone else. In my heart, there is only you. Lu Yin, I'm back, and this time, I won't leave you alone again."
A system notification sounded softly in their ears: "Affection value +20%, target Lan Yi's affection value has increased to 75%."
Lu Yin's heart raced. Two years ago, he was her sunshine, cooking porridge for her in the early morning and staying up late with her to finish projects. But two years later, he had become cold and distant, not even bothering to reply to her messages. On the day they broke up, his words as he turned away, "We can't go back," pierced her heart like a knife. Now, they had unexpectedly met again in the system.
She mustered her courage and asked softly, "Lan Yi, in the past two years... have you fallen for someone else?"
Lan Yi's silence sank Lu Yin's heart to the bottom. System notification: "Lan Yi's emotions fluctuate, triggering 'Memory Rewind'." The scene reset to the car accident scene two years ago.
In the scene, Lan Yi is driving a car with Lu Yin in the passenger seat. Suddenly, an out-of-control truck comes hurtling towards them. Lan Yi swerves sharply, but is thrown from the car. Lu Yin is unconscious inside. Lan Yi struggles to crawl to the driver's seat, only to see his ex-girlfriend (a system-generated interference character) standing beside the car, holding an unmailed envelope.
"Lan Yi, I've always loved you..." His ex-girlfriend's voice was muffled in the video. A flicker of struggle crossed Lan Yi's eyes, but it was quickly replaced by pain. He pushed his ex-girlfriend away and rushed towards Lu Yin's car.
A system notification sounded: "Memory fragment ended, emotion value +10%." A trace of confusion flashed in Lan Yi's eyes. He looked up at Lu Yin: "I... don't like anyone else."
Lan Yi's palms were burning hot, and for the first time, he took the initiative to hug her: "Lu Yin, for the past two years... I've actually been running away. After the car accident, I was afraid of losing you again, so I used indifference to protect myself. I don't like anyone else, I just... don't know how to face you."
