President's Office.
Chu Tianche sat behind the large desk, tapping the table with his fingertips impatiently, making a dull sound.
When he saw Zhou Chen coming in, he raised his head suddenly, his deep eyes full of bloodshot, and asked anxiously: "Zhou Chen, have you found anything?"
Zhou Chen walked quickly to the desk and handed over the document in his hand, his expression respectful but with a hint of helplessness:
"President, I checked the surveillance footage from last night and asked the staff on duty. One employee actually said they saw a beautiful young woman at your door last night. They said she looked quite attractive, but they were a bit far away and couldn't see her face clearly. Later, you opened the door and let her in."
Chu Tianche's brows were tightly furrowed, and he quickly flipped through the documents in his hand, as if trying to find some clues from them.
With a "bang", Chu Tianche slapped the table, causing the documents on the table to jump up.
He suddenly raised his head, his eyes almost popping out, red and bloodshot, as if he wanted to eat someone. He gritted his teeth and roared, "You can't find him? A living person disappeared right under my nose, and now you tell me you can't find him?!"
But this fierceness didn't last for more than a few seconds. Like a punctured balloon, it deflated with a bang. His body softened and he slumped back into his chair. He rubbed his temples feebly, his voice hoarse as if it had been rubbed with sandpaper:
"Keep investigating! I just don't believe a living person could just vanish into thin air! Go, use all the resources you can mobilize, and dig deep to find him!"
If Chen Xiaoru were present at this moment, she would definitely not be able to help but tease him, "Mr. President, I haven't disappeared. I'm right under your nose. It's just that... can you see it?"
After Zhou Chen left, the office fell into a suffocating silence. Chu Tianche slumped back into his large office chair, closing his eyes and trying to sort out the chaotic fragments of his memories from the previous night.
He tried to recall Zhou Chen's words—he had opened the door himself, which meant he had invited the girl. But who had he called? Chu Tianche's eyes snapped open, and he grabbed his phone. His slender fingers swiped across the screen, pulling up the call log. All he saw was Gu Sichen's name, nothing else.
"Damn it!" He cursed under his breath and angrily threw his phone onto the mahogany table, making a dull "bang". The phone slid a distance on the smooth tabletop and finally stopped at the edge of a pile of documents.
Chu Tianche tugged at his tie impatiently, leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes and tried hard to recall, but his head was like a mess and he couldn't remember anything.
The sky gradually darkened, and the lights in the office were not on. It was pitch black, just like his current mood, terrible. He opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling. The woman's face swayed in his mind, but he just couldn't see it clearly!
"Who are you?" Chu Tianche muttered to himself, his voice low and hoarse, with a hint of imperceptible loss. In the empty office, only his own echo was heard, cold and empty, and no one answered.
..................
After a day of high-intensity work, Chen Xiaoru dragged her tired body back home, kicked the door shut with a bang, and threw her high heels directly under the cabinet in the entrance hall.
She slumped onto the sofa with a thud, sprawled there like a dead fish, groaning, "I'm so exhausted! How did the original owner, with her tiny body, manage to pull through this crappy job? Working non-stop all day, all night long. Who could handle that?"
Chen Xiaoru curled up on the sofa for a while, rubbing her sore shoulders, thinking that she had to reward her poor stomach.
She sat up suddenly, her eyes sparkling, and said to herself:
"How can I treat myself so badly? Let me test out my cooking skills. I must prepare a luxurious meal for myself tonight!"
Chen Xiaoru jumped up from the sofa and rushed to the kitchen. She opened the refrigerator with great enthusiasm, but the scene before her put a damper on her mood - the refrigerator was empty, with only a few lonely bundles of noodles and a few eggs, not even a scallion in sight.
Chen Xiaoru instantly deflated, like a punctured balloon, her shoulders drooping as she muttered, "There's no chance of a fancy dinner. Oh, forget it, let's just make do with this today. I'll just have a simple meal tonight and go to the supermarket for a big shopping trip tomorrow."
She resigned herself to her fate and closed the refrigerator door. She took out a small milk pan from the cupboard, poured half a pot of water into it, and threw it on the stove.
The flames shot up, and the water soon began to bubble. Chen Xiaoru cracked two eggs into the pot, threw a handful of noodles into the pot, and stirred it with chopsticks, unable to help but complain in her heart: "When will this miserable life end?"
Outside the window, night falls and the lights of high-rise buildings gradually light up. The colorful lights shine through the window and reflect on the walls of the kitchen, jumping and flickering, adding a touch of vitality to this slightly deserted kitchen.
At this time, Chu Tianche and Gu Sichen were in a quiet private room in a bar in the bustling city.
Under the dim light, the crystal chandelier cast a hazy glow, illuminating the slightly exhausted faces of the two people. Several bottles of expensive liquor and empty wine glasses were scattered on the table, and the air was filled with the strong smell of alcohol and a hint of cigar smoke.
Gu Sichen leaned back on the sofa, crossed his legs, and shook the wine glass in his hand, making the ice "crackling". He looked at Chu Tianche and grinned:
"Tian Che, you're so inefficient! It's been a whole day, and there's still no sign of him. This isn't like you. You're usually faster at finding a cat than this, right? Are you really in trouble this time?"
