Chapter 122 Departure, Towards Outer Space
In the empty room, the morning sunlight slanted in through the doors and windows, making the room appear deep and quiet.
The Ancient One did not ask Gol what he meant, as if he had already confirmed that Gol was asking him whether he wanted to abandon his physical body and leave the world he had always protected.
The Ancient One slightly raised her teacup, looking at the ripples on the water: "The power of the River of Time is immense. I may be able to escape for a while, but I cannot escape forever. And when I do escape for a while, many things will develop in unpredictable directions. I think you should be very clear about this."
The Ancient One's voice had a captivating power that made Gel lower his head involuntarily.
Then, the Ancient One took a sip of tea and slowly placed the teacup on the table: "My future is about to end, but your future has just begun. So, you can do your best to create your own world."
Gel stared silently at the water glass on the table, speechless for a moment. After a while, he straightened up. He had originally hoped that the Ancient One could hold on for a few more years, at least enough to deter Thanos for a while. But now it seemed that he could only rely on himself.
"You must understand the dangers of outer space. Even with the Reality Stone in your possession, I hope you will be more careful. I hope I don't hear any news of you falling into some other dark abyss." The Ancient One's voice slowly echoed in the empty room.
Gel nodded slowly—just as the Ancient One had said, the main reason he didn't take Wanda to outer space was because the Marvel Universe was too terrifying. Compared to the so-called Celestials and the Living Tribunal, Thanos was merely a minor character. If he encountered some extremely powerful and ruthless figures, it was questionable whether he would even have a chance to escape.
Therefore, he only planned to travel on his own.
“Over the next few days, I will be learning some specific magic. I may need your help again this time.” Gel looked at the Ancient One and nodded slightly.
A slight smile finally appeared on the serene face of the Ancient One: "Just like you said, this may be our last meeting. If there's anything you need to learn, just ask me."
Ger slowly stood up and said, "In that case, I must leave now. I have other matters to attend to. I will return once I have finished."
Gel pushed open the wooden door and walked out. The next moment, his figure disappeared into the Kamar-Taj.
The rising and setting of the sun and moon, the shifting of stars and constellations—these seem to be the eternal and unchanging laws of the Earth.
On a small island, Loki was counting the stars in the sky, which was the only thing he could do for a year.
“One thousand and eight, one thousand and nine…” Loki counted and then suddenly smiled. “There seem to be many more stars than usual today. I’ve been counting for so long and I’ve only counted a small patch.”
This was merely his own muttering, and as always, his voice was drowned out by the surging sea. Therefore, Loki never expected anyone else to respond.
The sea at night, thick with moisture and cold, assaulted Loki, causing him to tremble and his teeth to chatter uncontrollably.
His body is now completely human, so he gets cold and hungry. He is only able to survive because of Wanda's chaotic energy within him, and he doesn't get sick.
But just as Loki was enduring the cold and forcing himself to continue counting the stars, a clear, distant voice suddenly came from above him: "Because there are very few clouds in the sky today."
The voice was so familiar and so precious that even though Loki knew who it belonged to, he still unconsciously turned his head and glanced at Gel out of the corner of his eye. Then, he met Gel's gaze.
How can one describe Ger's gaze? It contained hatred, helplessness, and yet a hint of pity.
In the past, Loki would have been furious at such a look, but now, Loki's eyes were filled with emotion—he had been stuck here, unable to move, for a whole year, and no one had spoken to him during that year. God knows how he had managed to get through it.
Now, let alone his "enemy" Gel, even if Odin himself came, he could talk for a whole day without stopping.
As Gel looked at Loki lying on the ground, the hatred in his eyes finally turned to ashes, leaving only pity for Loki. Loki, who once had a handsome face, now had wrinkles from the sun and wind, and his face and head were covered by hair that hadn't been trimmed in a year, making him almost unrecognizable.
With a thought, the magical shield around Loki vanished instantly. In that instant, Loki tentatively stood up, and when he finally staggered to his feet, his eyes blazed with an astonishing light.
"I can finally move! I can finally move!" Loki moved his limbs and then cheered and jumped for joy on the island, completely ignoring the fact that Gol was right next to him.
"Alas."
As Loki ran, he shouted at the surrounding sea. Fortunately, there was only the vast ocean as far as the eye could see. Otherwise, if anyone had heard his ghostly howls here, they would probably have been terrified and started cursing.
By the end, Gol felt increasingly helpless, wondering just how much oppression Loki had exerted to produce this kind of reaction.
Loki hopped and skipped around for what seemed like forever before carefully moving to Gel's side: "You're not going to seal me away like this again, are you?"
Before Gol could answer, Loki immediately clasped his hands together in a sorrowful gesture and pleaded with Gol, "Please, I promise I'll never do anything to you again, and I don't have the power to do so now. Please spare me. Let me swear an oath, or I'll kneel down and beg you?"
