Chapter 172 The Mermaid Baby Punishes the Bad Guys

"Fish are getting harder and harder to catch these days! My wife has been married to me for so long, and she hasn't even had a proper bowl of fresh fish soup yet. She's already quite delicate, and she's really suffered since she married me."

All three had heard that Wan Qiufeng was prone to acting out his roles, so they remained silent, waiting to see how he would perform today.

The young wife seemed a little surprised upon hearing this. She frowned slightly and glanced at her husband, as she had never felt that her husband cared for her like this before.

While tidying up the fishing net, Wan Qiufeng continued acting, "I've been giving my wife all the good food and drink lately, but I don't know why she's still so weak. That's why I brought her here to fish today to help her recover."

"Wanwan, you must have some free time to come here today." Wan Qiufeng spoke for about half a cup of tea's time before finally getting to the point, and the expressions of the three of them simultaneously turned serious.

Wanwan remained silent, tilting her little head as she intently gazed at him.

Wan Qiufeng grinned, revealing a set of uneven teeth. The wrinkles at the corners of his eyes were all piled up, and every crevice in his skin seemed to hide a hypocritical expression.

"Wanwan, I know you're a good swimmer and a great fisherman. But fish have been getting harder to catch lately. And you and my wife are such good friends, why don't you catch a few fish for her to eat? You have time anyway, and we don't need much. Just fill my bucket."

As Wan Qiufeng spoke, he took the wooden bucket he had brought and placed it in front of Wanwan, adding, "Why aren't you moving? You usually act so nice to my wife, but you won't even do this little thing?"

“Uncle,” Lin Yang’er couldn’t help but speak first, “Didn’t you just say you were going to catch fish for your older sister? Why did you bend the bucket again? Wanwan is still a little kid. How can you, a married adult, ask a child for help? Wanwan hasn’t even agreed yet and you’re already urging her. Why don’t you just catch fish yourself, big brother!”

"You little brat, this is a matter for the Wan family, what business is it of yours?"

Wan Qiufeng wasn't the type to take things lying down. A few words from a child made him so angry that his neck swelled up, his ears turned red, and his cheeks burned.

"Uncle, you still have the energy to scold the child, why don't you just go yourself!" Lin Yang'er was much bolder than usual for Wanwan's sake, and she retorted.

Wan Qiufeng was so angry that his chest heaved violently. If the other party hadn't been a little girl, he would have already started fighting with her.

"It's alright." Wanwan suddenly spoke up, stopping the two from arguing any further. "I'm also a member of the Wan family, so it's only natural for me to help out."

Her almond-shaped eyes curved like a new moon.

Wan Qiufeng got excited again upon hearing this, but he knew that this little girl had even more tricks up her sleeve, so he excitedly said as if signing a contract, "This is the Wanwan you mentioned, so you have to help me catch fish right now, and fill the basket to the brim."

Upon hearing this, Lin Yang'er also became angry and was about to continue speaking to stop her, but Wanwan reached out and stopped her.

"Sister Wanwan..." Lin Yang'er stomped her foot anxiously, her little nose wrinkled, and she reached out to hold Wanwan's arm.

"It's okay, Wanwan has a way." Wanwan winked her round eyes playfully at Lin Yang'er, and Lin Yang'er reluctantly took her hand off her arm.

"Wanwan can help."

Baili Wanwan turned to Wan Qiufeng and said, "But Wanwan is also a child, and she needs adults' help to catch fish. Uncle Wan is an adult and a man, so you wouldn't be unwilling to help Wanwan, would you?"

Wanwan's smile was captivating, like a lotus flower just peeking out of a pond in summer—beautiful, dazzling, and innocent, without a trace of guile.

"This..." Wan Qiufeng was speechless. He didn't expect that even after things had developed to this point, he would still be outmaneuvered.

The young wife nudged him with her shoulder. She adored Baili Wanwan, but her lazy husband was such a handful, so she could only speak up for her, "Qiu Feng, aren't you a man? How can you bear to let a little kid go into the sea alone? What if something happens..."

"I..." Wan Qiufeng's Adam's apple bobbed, he opened his mouth, but in the end he didn't say anything.

"And you can also have Wanwan teach you how to fish, so you won't have to ask someone else for help next time." Before he could refuse, the young wife pushed him away with both hands.

"Uncle Wan, are you ready? Wanwan will take you fishing now." Wanwan smiled and took the lead.

Wan Qiufeng had no choice but to follow along, holding a fishing net in one hand and a bucket in the other.

The two men, one with his head held high and the other with his back hunched, didn't look like they were helping out; rather, they looked like a young lady from a wealthy family taking her servants out.

This comical scene amused Xiao Qi, who stood to the side. He stood with his hands behind his back, watching the two walk into the sea with a relaxed air, while Lin Yang'er twisted the hem of her clothes with her hands, looking slightly worried.

Wanwan led Wan Qiufeng deeper into the area, and before he knew it, Wan Qiufeng's feet could no longer touch the soil, and he couldn't help but panic.

Wanwan floated effortlessly on the water's surface, her white dress spreading out with the current, making her resemble a white water lily growing on the water's surface.

"Wanwan, what are you doing? Weren't you fishing? Why did you bring me here?" Wan Qiufeng was a little exasperated. The rapid current made it hard for him to stand, which made him even more nervous.

Wanwan nimbly swam around in the water and said, "Fish naturally live in the water. This is a rapid current, and we're downstream, so the fish will swim with the current. Originally, Wanwan wanted to teach you a more flexible way of catching fish, but seeing how anxious Uncle Wan is, I'll pass."

"Are you kidding me? Am I going to have to wait forever?"

Wan Qiufeng felt his intelligence had been insulted. He raised his hand to try and tame the free-flowing water, but he was a terrible swimmer. As soon as he took a step, he slipped and fell into the water with a "plop".

"Ahhhh—"

Wan Qiufeng screamed as if a knife had struck him, and the young woman on the shore covered her forehead upon hearing the sound.

"Big brother, stop calling me, please stand up first."

Wanwan looked helpless, but her eyes held a hint of schadenfreude as she spoke up to remind him.

Wan Qiufeng called out hastily for a while before struggling to stand up from the water. When he straightened up, he found that the water level was only up to his waist. He felt even more embarrassed, and his already red face became even hotter.

"Are you deliberately messing with me? There are no fish at all! You just want to embarrass me!"

Enraged, Wan Qiufeng picked up the fishing net and threw it at Wanwan's head, but the net was much heavier than he expected, and due to inertia, he fell headfirst into the water.

This time, however, he finally discovered why the fishing net was so heavy: inside, a group of lively fish were struggling desperately.
