Chapter 3 I Want to Hug You (1/2)

Shen Liwu suddenly thought of what she said on the wedding day:

"How can you respond? You even eat my leftovers. I've never seen a man as spineless as you." Her tone was full of sarcasm and disdain at the time, as if Zhou Yanjing's behavior made her feel extremely uncomfortable.

At that time, Zhou Yanjing just put down the bowl silently, his eyes dimmed, but he did not refute a word.

As the same scene reappeared, Shen Liwu felt a sour feeling in his heart, and more of it was regret.

Chen Liwu, ah Chen Liwu, don’t you have a heart? How can you hurt him like this? Even if you don’t love him, you shouldn’t hurt him.

Zhou Yanjing stood up, put away the dishes and turned around to wash them.

Shen Liwu looked at his back, feeling a pang of pain in her heart. She slowly stood up and walked behind him.

"I'm sorry." She whispered, her voice so soft that it was almost drowned out by the sound of water.

Zhou Yanjing stopped what he was doing and turned his head suspiciously, "Why are you apologizing?"

Shen Liwu stood behind him, his hands hanging at his sides, his fingertips slightly curled.

Her eyes fell on his back, the fabric of his military uniform glowing lightly under the light.

She bit her lower lip and said in a hoarse voice: "Because of the past. The me before... didn't understand it at all."

Zhou Yanjing did not respond immediately, but washed the bowl, dried his hands, and turned to face her.

His eyes were deep, as if they could penetrate her soul, and the corners of his lips were slightly pursed into a straight line, "Let's not talk about the past now that it's over."

Shen Liwu raised her head and met his gaze.

Suddenly a dark shadow enveloped her, Shen Liwu opened her eyes wide, and a warm touch came on her lips.

Zhou Yanjing's kiss was light and restrained, as if testing her reaction. His palm was placed on her waist, not with much force, but with a firmness that could not be refused.

Shen Liwu's body stiffened for a moment, then slowly relaxed. Her heart was beating as wildly as a drum, her fingertips involuntarily grasped the front of his shirt, and her breathing became rapid. She could smell the scent of soapberry and sweat on him, fresh and warm.

Zhou Yanjing's lips moved away a little, staring at her with burning eyes, and his voice was low and hoarse: "Do you still hate me?"

After saying that, even he himself didn't believe it, so why bother asking.

"No, I don't hate it." At least not now.

I wasn't opposed to his kiss, I was just a little shy.

In the kitchen, the aroma of noodles still lingered in the air. The warm yellow light shone on the two people, outlining faint silhouettes.

Shen Liwu's fingers unconsciously stroked the edge of the table, and her heartbeat had not yet completely calmed down.

Zhou Yanjing's eyes were calm and deep, as if waiting for her next reaction. The air between the two of them became sticky, as if being pulled by an invisible force, and no one spoke first to break this brief silence.

There were a few sounds of insects chirping outside the window, and a faint breeze blew gently through the screen, carrying a strand of hair across her cheek. Zhou Yanjing raised his hand and gently pushed the strand of hair behind her ear with his fingertips. His movements were natural and gentle, as if it was just a very ordinary thing.

She doesn’t reject it, that’s good!

"Don't you have night training at night?" Shen Liwu changed the subject. The voice broke the silence, and she asked in a casual tone, trying to ease the ambiguous atmosphere at the moment.

Zhou Yanjing withdrew his hand, his expression still calm, and his tone steady: "You just came here, I'm afraid you are not familiar with it, Ah Xiu will lead them in training, don't hesitate." His eyes were still on her face, with a subtle warmth.

Shen Liwu nodded, her voice light and floating: "Then...then you should rest early, you are also very tired after a day."

Zhou Yanjing did not respond immediately, but took a step forward, shortening the distance between them. He leaned forward slightly, his eyes level with hers, and asked in a low and gentle voice: "What about you?"

Shen Liwu felt him approaching, her breathing stagnated, and her body subconsciously took a half step back, with her back resting against the cupboard behind her. She raised her eyes and met his gaze, her eyes flickering: "I...I should go to bed too."

Zhou Yanjing's lips curled up into a faint smile, and he said in a low voice, "Well, it's time to go to bed."
