Chapter 40 The Magical Gears of Fate 3

The magical gears of fate work their magic; whether you're present or not, what's meant to happen will happen, whether it's with a different person or in a different place, aligning with certain predetermined events. This is what many people mean when they say they can't escape the arrangements of fate.

Wei Shuqing cut her losses and left in time, but Cui Shuai entered the family more than ten years earlier. The Qi family used this mess to ruthlessly shatter her elegant image.

A pot of millet porridge with brown sugar and eggs marked the beginning of the climax...

Mother Qi trembled with anger, her lips quivering as she slammed her hand on the table, saying, "How could you eat it all without saying a word? You were eating brown sugar millet porridge and two eggs, looking perfectly fine! How dare you! Those were for Fangfang to nourish her body!"

Xiao Cui sneered, "What's there to be afraid of eating? If you have a mouth, you can eat, right? The sugar coupons were issued by Qi Zhijun, and the egg coupons were issued by my work unit. I'm not entitled to eat them, so who is? You tell me!"

Mother Qi was so angry she could hardly breathe, her face turning pale. She pointed at Xiao Cui, unable to speak. Xiao Cui chuckled, "What's wrong, Mom? I think you've fallen back into your old ways. You said you'd reformed and stopped siding with outsiders, but you've used up a month's worth of eggs, haven't you? I think you've used half the brown sugar too. My husband and I work hard all month to earn this money, and we're so frugal with it, only to have you use it up for us? You've managed the household your whole life, and you've only made it poorer. And you still have the nerve to take credit? Is it so hard to prove you're not cut out to manage a household?"

Just then, Qi Zhijun came home from get off work and heard the noise. He was extremely annoyed and said impatiently, "What's all the noise about now?"

Xiao Cui sneered, "Ask your good mother! She used up a month's worth of eggs in one meal, and that brown sugar jar, which was filled with half a pound yesterday, is almost empty today."

Qi's mother roared, "Enough! You're a grown man, why are you arguing with a child? I told you that it's for Fangfang to nourish her body."

Qi Zhijun turned around angrily and shouted at Xiao Cui, "You're arguing again over an egg and brown sugar! Have you no shame?!"

Xiao Cui's face turned cold. "Qi Zhijun, are you cursing your mother? Can you at least find out what happened? Was I the one arguing? Are you sure it wasn't your dear mother arguing with me? She wants to eat me alive for a bowl of millet porridge and two eggs."

Qi Zhijun said weakly, "Why are you arguing all the time? Can't you talk to Mom properly? And Mom, it's just two eggs and a bowl of millet porridge, is it really that big of a deal?"

Qi's mother, her heart aching with anger, said, "I told you, it was to help Fangfang recover; Fangfang is still a child..."

"Mom, don't keep it half-said! Why does Wang Fang want to use brown sugar, eggs, and millet porridge to nourish her body? Tell me! Tell me! What? You can't say it either? Seeing you looking like you want to say something but can't, I'm worried for you! What are you holding back, or can't you say it?" Xiao Cui looked at Qi's mother nonchalantly.

Qi's mother was speechless for a moment, and tears welled up in her eyes. Qi Zhijun glared at Xiao Cui and said, "Can you please stop talking and go back to your room!"

"Hmph! If your mother hadn't been holding me back, do you think I'd want to stay here chatting with you all like this!" With that, he turned and left.

Qi Zhifang was completely exhausted. She had been tormented by Li Maocai yesterday, and in the morning she had barely managed to pick up Wang Fang. After returning home, she lay in bed in a daze and could only pretend not to hear Qi Zhijun's movements.

Qi's mother held back her tears and just looked at Qi Zhijun. After a while, she chuckled and said, "You also think I'm wrong?"

Qi Zhijun squatted down, grabbed her hair with both hands, and whispered, "It's just two eggs and millet porridge. Why did you have to argue with him? Can't you talk things out?"

Mother Qi covered her mouth and cried, "Is it something I want to eat? Fangfang needs to nourish her body..." Qi Zhijun said irritably, "What's wrong with Fangfang now? You always say Fangfang needs to nourish her body, Fangfang needs to nourish her body, what's wrong with her? Is she just lacking that egg and that brown sugar millet porridge? You tell me! What kind of illness requires eggs, millet porridge, and brown sugar to nourish her body!"

Mother Qi stamped her foot and burst into tears, "Fine, it's my fault, I shouldn't have interfered!" Then she ran away.

Qi Zhijun grew increasingly irritable. She realized Qi Zhifang should have been off work long ago; where was she? She went to the main bedroom and found Qi Zhifang completely covered up from head to toe. Furious, she snapped, "Fangzi, Mom and Xiao Cui were arguing about your Wang Fang, and you didn't say a word? Even if you don't have sugar coupons, you should at least have egg coupons! Why make things so difficult for Mom when you've bought a few eggs?"

Seeing that Qi Zhifang hadn't moved an inch, he was furious. He rushed over and pulled Qi Zhifang up. The scarf wrapped around Qi Zhifang's head immediately came undone, her face was red and swollen, her mouth was swollen beyond recognition, there was blood at the corner of her mouth, and her neck was covered with red marks. As a married man, he knew all too well what this meant.

She was instantly furious and muttered, "I think you've lost your mind and have no shame whatsoever, haven't you? The family is arguing like cats and dogs over every little thing, and yet you still do such a shameless thing?"

Qi Zhifang felt weak all over, tears streaming down her face numbly. Qi Zhijun raised her hand but didn't hit her. Instead, she slapped herself across the face and said angrily, "You have no shame! Why don't you think about your family? Do we still have any face left? Can we even go out in public? Do you want everyone to lose face with you, to be humiliated to the point of being shamed?"

Qi Zhifang wiped away her tears, which eventually flowed more and more, becoming impossible to wipe away completely. She covered her face with her hands and cried bitterly, "What can I do? Do you think I want to be defiled like this? I have no choice!"

After crying for a while, she looked up at Qi Zhijun, who looked as if she had been struck by lightning, and continued, "Didn't you ask why Fangfang insisted on eating brown sugar millet porridge with eggs? It's because she had a miscarriage. She had a child with someone while she was working in the countryside, but the miscarriage wasn't complete. After returning to the city, she had a massive hemorrhage yesterday and was taken to the hospital. If I don't do something, what will happen to her?"
