Chapter 68 Red Envelope

Chapter 68 Red Envelope

After dinner, Zhou Jingzhan held a meeting and ward rounds as usual. Today was Lu Youyu's surgery day, so he specially invited Ding Liyao to be there, and the process went relatively smoothly.

After the meeting, the hospital leader wanted to invite Ding Liyao to dinner, but she declined. Ding Xinye then took her to his office.

Ding Liyao asked, "Why didn't I see Yunqi? Did he take a break?"

Ding Xinye paused. "He returned to Country M after his exchange period ended. Didn't he tell you?"

“…” Ding Liyao felt uncomfortable.

"You said this little bastard, he doesn't know anything at his age." Ding Xinye comforted Ding Liyao: "It's okay, sister, don't worry too much. It's not a bad thing for him to go back. Is my brother-in-law okay?"

Zhou Jingzhan came in at the perfect time.

Ding Xinye asked him: "Have you contacted Chu Yunqi? How has he been these past two days?"

Zhou Jingzhan didn't understand what was going on yet, and raised his phone blankly: "He just sent me a message saying that he would be back to Beijing this afternoon."

"What? He's coming back again? Didn't he just leave?"

"I don't know. They should have finished their work in Hong Kong." Zhou Jingzhan looked quite innocent.

Ding Xinye was worried: "Why did he go to Hong Kong again?"

Ding Liyao didn't think too much about it. She loved her son dearly: "Jing Zhan, Yunqi is coming back tonight, how about you two come to my house for a simple meal?"

The atmosphere in Chu Yunqi's home was quite depressing. Zhou Jingzhan had been there twice when he was a child and his experience was average, but he could see that Ding Liyao wanted to ease the relationship with Chu Yunqi, so he agreed.

After handing the medical records to Ding Xinye, Zhou Jingzhan left. In order to pick up Chu Yunqi at the airport, he drove home during his lunch break and even called his grandfather to ask for a pot of flowers.

Zhou Qing said in a loud voice: "You haven't called me in hundreds of years, and now you come here and ask for this and that? Tell me, who are you giving it to?"

"It's for a friend, so don't ask around. Just pick out a good one and send it to the hospital for me this afternoon."

Zhou Qing treated the flowers and plants like treasures and refused to give them up easily: "That won't do. I'm so disappointed if you don't even tell me who you're giving them to."

Zhou Jingzhan acted coquettishly: "Grandpa, I beg you, just this once. Is that okay?"

Zhou Qing had no choice but to agree.

He hesitated for a long time and finally picked a pot of asparagus fern. Before having it delivered, he took a photo of Zhou Jingzhan with a crying expression.

Zhou Jingzhan gave him a hug in return.

It was finally afternoon. Due to the photo incident last time, Zhou Jingzhan didn't dare get out of the car and waited for him in the parking lot.

They had known each other for more than 20 years and had just separated yesterday, but Zhou Jingzhan was extremely nervous and his heart was pounding. When he saw Chu Yunqi appear in front of him in light luggage, Zhou Jingzhan felt a moment of loss in his heart. He understood that Chu Yunqi had no intention of staying long this time.

However, this feeling was immediately filled with peace of mind after Chu Yunqi got in the car and sat next to him.

The two of them were separated by the center console, but Zhou Jingzhan still couldn't wait to kiss him.

Chu Yunqi responded to him eagerly.

Chu Yunqi didn't open his eyes until breathing became difficult, but he didn't loosen his arms around Zhou Jingzhan's neck. His breathing was unstable: "Did you miss me?"

"Um."

Chu Yunqi pinched his neck and said gently, "Go home."

Zhou Jingzhan then remembered the important matter and repeated it to him in detail.

Chu Yunqi was frightened when he heard this, and frowned unconsciously. His voice was not as gentle as before: "Okay, let's go there first."

After saying that, Zhou Jingzhan started the car.

Chu Yunqi leaned back in his chair, rubbed his brows, and looked exhausted. "Next time, tell me in advance."

Zhou Jingzhan watched his every move, all of which showed obvious resistance and disgust.

Zhou Jingzhan was torn. He wanted Chu Yunqi to ease the relationship with his family, but he also didn't want him to be so exhausted and have to deal with all this. He blamed himself: "I'm sorry, I didn't think this through."

Upon hearing this, Chu Yunqi realized that he might not have controlled his emotions well, and hurriedly smiled and touched his hair, comforting him: "Don't think too much, I don't mean to blame you."

On the way from the airport to the Chu family, Chu Yunqi fell asleep. Zhou Jingzhan felt distressed when he saw this and considerately changed the music and adjusted the temperature for him.

Zhou Jingzhan drove the car all the way to Chu Yunqi's doorstep before waking him up reluctantly.

The two stood at the door waiting for it to open. A second before the door opened, Chu Yunqi held Zhou Jingzhan's hand tightly, pulled him in, and only let go after showing him off in front of everyone in the house.

Zhou Jingzhan helped Chu Shaobo move the flowers to the balcony. Ding Liyao tested Chu Yunqi: "You have to give Jingzhan a red envelope today, right?"

"Well, you can discuss it with my dad."

Ding Liyao understood, "I heard from your uncle that you left the hospital." After a day, Ding Liyao probably understood what was going on with Chu Yunqi and said, "Tell your brother if you encounter any problems in Hong Kong. It would be great if you could return to Beijing. Your family could help out a little."

Chu Yunqi understood what she meant. Although he had no intention of relying on his family, he still felt warm in his heart when he heard this: "I know, Mom."

Everyone was in high spirits today, and even Ding Liyao had a couple of drinks with them.

Halfway through the meal, Zhou Jingzhan noticed that the Chu family's parents were hesitant to speak, so he sent a message to Zhang Abao asking him to call him.

After hanging up the phone, Zhou Jingzhan said, "I'm sorry, uncle and aunt, I have to go to the hospital for something."

Chu Yunqi had a poor alcohol tolerance and was weak, so he didn't drink too much. He was only slightly tipsy at this moment. He staggered and tried to get up, but Chu Mingxu held him down: "You've had too much to drink. Stay home. I'll go see Jing Zhan off."

Chu Yunqi felt it was inappropriate, but Zhou Jingzhan spoke first: "Thank you, brother."

As soon as the two left, the atmosphere at the table cooled down considerably. At this moment, Chu Shaobo unexpectedly spoke up: "What are your plans with Jing Zhan in the future? Find some time for our two families to get together."

"Okay, I'll discuss it with Zhou Jingzhan."

Chu Shaobo rarely smiled, took out a card uncomfortably and pushed it in front of Chu Yunqi.

Chu Yunqi didn't react and pushed it back to him with a smile: "I gave it to him just now."

“…” Chu Shaobo was a little embarrassed and didn’t know what to say.

Ding Liyao smoothed things over, "This is for you," and then stuffed the card back into Chu Yunqi's hand: "Take it."

Chu Yunqi was speechless. He changed his posture, carefully swiping his hands along the edge of the card, and then put it aside. After a long while, he spoke: "Thank you, Mom and Dad."

Maybe it was because of the alcohol, but Chu Shaobo was being particularly talkative tonight. He then continued, "Are you going back to the hospital? If so, you'll need to prepare the information for the Top Ten Young People. Your mother and her colleagues at the hospital have already started."

Chu Yunqi replied honestly: "I don't have such plans this year. I'll see if my hand can recover by then."

Chu Shaobo nodded thoughtfully.
