Qin Nan guessed that this private room must be the most luxurious in the restaurant, with an indoor swimming pool, a KTV, a toilet, a private room, and a large dining table in the middle. All the curtains in the room were closed, so no sunlight could get in.
Only the central area had its chandeliers on, where a dozen or so people in suits were gathered. There were fine wines and dishes on the table, and three waiters were in charge of pouring wines and changing dishes.
Qin Nan looked at everyone present one by one. There were three people he recognized from the news; they were heads of several large companies in the city. The others were probably the same, but Qin Nan had never met them before.
One of the people was rather strange. He was wearing a mask and coughing from time to time. When Qin Nan looked over, she wondered if it was just her imagination, but the person looked back at her. When Qin Nan realized what was happening and looked again, the person was already coughing with his head down.
Bai Hao led Qin Nan to sit down on a sofa in the karaoke area. There was no one there, the room was dimly lit, and no one noticed anything unusual about the sofa.
Bai Hao sat on the sofa with his eyes closed, resting. He already knew all about these things and had no interest in hearing them again. Qin Nan, on the other hand, was much more curious and leaned against the back of the sofa, listening to the people talking and chatting.
Moreover, the person who seemed strange before was genuinely strange. When raising his glass to drink, he touched it with an empty glass and even made drinking gestures through his mask, making the people around him genuinely believe he had drunk from it.
After they had eaten and drunk their fill, a middle-aged man waved for the waiters to leave and close the door behind them.
Qin Nan turned around to look at Bai Hao. He stared at the man for a long time and realized that the man was strange. He wanted to ask Bai Hao, but Bai Hao took the initiative and lay down on Qin Nan's lap with his arms crossed. Qin Nan subconsciously supported Bai Hao's head with one hand and gently placed the other hand on Bai Hao's waist.
"This time, we've invited Master Wang to our art exhibition. His last painting sold for tens of millions of yuan. Everyone is sure to gain a lot from this exhibition!"
"I've heard that Master Wang Zhe doesn't make a move easily, but every time he does, it's astonishing!"
"Yes, yes! There was a painting called 'Moonlit Lake' that was truly outstanding!"
"I've heard about it too. The scene is absolutely beautiful. But it's hard to imagine that Master Wang Zhe could paint such a delicate and beautiful picture. He truly deserves to be called a genius, doing things that ordinary people can't even imagine!"
"That's right, I've also heard..."
Qin Nan thought for a moment. This Wang Zhe seemed to be very famous, but he had never heard of him. When his father was alive, he had told him about many masters in the art world, but many of them had passed away or retired due to old age. He had also told him about current events in the art world. After his father passed away, Qin Nan no longer knew anything about this.
He had only heard his father say that he hadn't inherited any of his father's artistic talent and that his paintings were always a mess. So Qin Nan had even less interest in it and genuinely didn't understand why a painting could be so expensive. As an ordinary person, he couldn't appreciate it.
Moreover, Qin Nan didn't know if his father could be considered a master. His father was very good at painting landscapes, but he didn't sell many of his paintings. It seemed that only two or three of them were sold, and Qin Nan had seen them all. There was one painting that Qin Nan remembered particularly well because it contained a hidden secret that most people didn't know. It was because his father was in a good mood and talked to him about it once.
There are many paintings stored in the house, including several paintings of family members that my father cherishes and has kept. Apart from my mother and grandfather, even Qin Nan has never seen them in person, and he has absolutely no intention of selling them.
Qin Nan thought for a moment. This time when he went back, he would organize his father's paintings and take a look at the portraits of his family members that his father had painted. Qin Nan remembered that his father liked to leave his signature in various ways, but he never wrote it obviously on the paintings.
Qin Nan listened to them talk for a long time, feeling bored. He glanced at his phone; it was almost one o'clock, and he was starting to get hungry.
Just as Qin Nan felt her stomach starting to rumble, everyone stood up, exchanged pleasantries, and left one by one.
The only person Qin Nan found strange seemed to be very drunk. He was then helped to a room next door. After the others left, Bai Hao still didn't move. Just as Qin Nan was about to pat him, someone came out of the room.
Qin Nan turned her head and saw not a middle-aged man in a suit and tie, but a tall and thin young man in a white shirt and black trousers, wearing a hat and a mask, looking up at Qin Nan.
Qin Nan: "You, you are He Yan?"
He Yan nodded, walked over, and kicked Bai Hao. Bai Hao immediately got up and dodged.
Qin Nan looked at He Yan with surprise and admiration. This divine beast is amazing! It actually dared to kick Bai Hao. Impressive!
Bai Hao sat down on the other side of Qin Nan, and He Yan sat down on Qin Nan's right.
Bai Hao: [Long time no see.]
He Yan: [Your wife?]
Bai Hao: [Mm.]
He Yan: [Human?]
Bai Hao: [Mm.]
He Yan: [Still not done?]
Bai Hao: [Why are you in such a hurry when I'm not?]
He Yan: [Why are you looking for me? I don't have money to pay you!]
Bai Hao: [Can I borrow Pi Yuan to take home and care for a couple of days?]
He Yan: [They actually use children to make money! Have they no shame?!]
Bai Hao: [Do you think you can eat if you have no shame? Like you?]
He Yan: [Your Bai Ze's talent is really annoying!]
Bai Hao: [Aren't you envious!]
He Yan: [Get lost!]
Qin Nan pressed herself against the back of the sofa, turning her head left and right to look at Bai Hao and He Yan. The two seemed to be communicating with each other through their expressions, and it looked like Bai Hao had won. He Yan angrily took off his hat and started tossing his hair.
Qin Nan: "What's wrong?"
Bai Hao: "It's nothing, let's go."
"Shall we go?" Qin Nan was pulled up by Bai Hao, and turned to look at He Yan with a puzzled expression.
Bai Hao: "He has no money, why doesn't he leave?"
He Yan's lips twitched, and he threw the hat he was holding at him: [You miserly snob! You've ruined the reputation of the Bai Ze, such a kind and beautiful race!]
Bai Hao caught the hat and threw it back, saying, "Fine, I'll take pity on you and help you out!"
He Yan: [Kindness? Do you even have that?]
Bai Hao: "Hmm, it seems not."
Qin Nan looked at the two strangely. One was silent, while the other was talking out of thin air. Could one know what the other was saying just by looking at their faces? Just as she was wondering, her stomach suddenly growled.
Bai Hao glanced at Qin Nan and then waved to He Yan: "Since you've already infiltrated, getting evidence shouldn't be difficult. I can help you, but we'll have to wait for that person to tell the truth first."
He Yan: [Is it important to the result?]
Bai Hao: [You want him to keep lying to you? You know he's just taking advantage of your soft heart, don't you?]
He Yan: [After this incident, I feel I owe you nothing, and I should go back now.]
Bai Hao: [Speaking too soon might lead to being proven wrong.]
He Yan: [I still really dislike you!]
Bai Hao smiled and left with Qin Nan. He Yan patted his hat, thinking that it was all his own choice, but oh well, this was the last time, and he had to leave.
