The atmosphere was somewhat tense. Qin Nan glanced at Bai Hao, then at the two people opposite her, and Wu Yulin's eyes showed anxiety.
He Yan looked up: "I want to know, is his leg really because of me?"
Bai Hao raised an eyebrow: "Otherwise, who else could it be because of? Don't you know exactly what happened that day?"
He Yan: [But he shouldn't have shown up that day.]
Bai Hao: [So, it's because of you.]
He Yan: [Did he know I would be ambushed?]
Bai Hao: [What, you think he hired these people?]
He Yan shook his head: "He won't. He won't hurt me, and he won't hurt Feifei."
Bai Hao: [There's a question I really want to ask you: Do you like Kary Ng?]
He Yan thought for a moment: "No, it's just gratitude, and also, the feeling of family."
Bai Hao: [Then why won't you accept Wu Yulin?]
He Yan: [I only see him as a younger brother, and my care and concern for him stems from considering him family.]
Bai Hao: [If they are family, why not stay?]
He Yan: [If I stay, it will only make him sink deeper into trouble.]
Bai Hao: [Do you think it's too late to leave now?]
He Yan: [I...]
Bai Hao: [You don't need to worry about it. I can make you forget, and I can make him forget, how about it?]
He Yan hesitated for a moment. He wanted to nod, but his gaze fell on Wu Yulin, who was holding his hand tightly. Wu Yulin's burning gaze was fixed on him.
He had never understood the look in Wu Yulin's eyes when she looked at him, and at this moment, his heart skipped a beat, and he avoided her gaze, failing to see the strange look that flashed in Wu Yulin's eyes.
Qin Nan kept looking at Wu Yulin, not missing his expression and eyes. He felt a mix of emotions. He saw desire and adoration in Wu Yulin's eyes, a very deep adoration, and also a greedy desire.
Qin Nan couldn't help but look at Bai Hao's profile. His eyes were somewhat like the way Bai Hao had looked at him that day, yearning yet restrained, as if he was using all his strength to maintain his disguise, afraid that if he took any further action, he would lose everything he wanted. So he would rather suffer in silence than indulge in the slightest desire.
Qin Nan unconsciously raised his hand to cover his chest. He could clearly hear his heart beating. Qin Nan clenched his fist and felt very guilty. He seemed to have been too heartless towards Bai Hao. No, it wasn't heartlessness, but rather that his heart had been dormant for too long and he had forgotten what it felt like to beat for someone.
Bai Hao's attention was focused on He Yan, so he didn't notice Qin Nan's unusual behavior. When he felt Qin Nan actually take the initiative to interlock her fingers with his, Bai Hao was both delighted and surprised. He then tightly gripped her hand in return.
Qin Nan couldn't help but smile. It felt really good to be liked. And he liked this person too. He knew he liked him, but he needed time. Only when he felt at ease would he give everything to the person without reservation.
After a long silence, He Yan said, "I don't know."
Bai Hao: [Do you really think he'll be fine without you?]
He Yan: [He's only like this because of his injury. If we help him heal his legs, what could be wrong? He'll also meet someone more suitable than me.]
Bai Hao: [I always thought you had something wrong with your head, but I didn't expect you to have made no progress at all over the years.]
He Yan: [......]
Bai Hao turned to Wu Yulin and said, "I'm his friend. He asked me to treat your leg."
"Treat...the legs?" Wu Yulin's face showed no joy, only panic. Why treat her legs? And what would happen after they were healed? Would she be able to abandon herself with a clear conscience?
He Yan nodded, then pointed to the bedroom.
Bai Hao gently patted Qin Nan's hand, then slowly let go. He got up and pushed Wu Yulin to the bedroom. Wu Yulin did not resist or make a sound. He just seemed to have suddenly lost his support, curled up into a ball, lowered his head, and let Bai Hao push him away.
He Yan clenched his fist. Something was weighing on his mind, something he couldn't let go of, so he didn't know how to deal with Wu Yulin's feelings for him.
Qin Nan looked at He Yan's complicated expression, then at the closed bedroom door. He didn't know about Bai Hao and He Yan's conversation, nor did he know what had happened, but he could tell that He Yan was not without feelings for Wu Yulin. He just seemed to care about something, or perhaps he was pretending to be oblivious.
Qin Nan looked up at the paintings hanging on the living room wall: "Were all these paintings painted by Wu Yufei?"
There are four landscape paintings in total, depicting courtyards in the four seasons. They look like the courtyards outside the gate, but the courtyards in the paintings are not so empty.
He Yan's brows relaxed slightly, he nodded, and then got up to pour Qin Nan a glass of water.
Qin Nan: "Thank you. It seems he relies on you a lot."
He Yan sat down again without replying.
Qin Nan said slowly, "You can't hide liking someone. It takes a very long time to plant someone in your heart, and it requires extremely careful cultivation and watering. Liking someone is never something that happens overnight. You've taken root in their heart, and your branches and leaves are flourishing. If you forcibly remove them, your heart will probably be dug out along with them."
Upon hearing this, He Yan slowly shook his head, picked up a notebook and pen from the coffee table beside him, and began to write in a daze. He wrote several times and crossed out several times, seemingly lost in thought. Finally, he wrote: "Just forget about me."
Qin Nan looked at the words in the notebook and couldn't help but laugh: "You must have never loved deeply. True love is unforgettable. Even if the memory is erased, the heart will remember."
He Yan was stunned, somewhat bewildered, somewhat puzzled, yet also somewhat enlightened, but still not quite fully understood.
