The landlady angrily walked home, where her husband was sitting on the sofa watching TV.
"Another Taoist priest has run away. Tell me, Wu Xiong hasn't been home for days. Will this house still be able to be rented out in the future?"
"Just ignore Wu Xiong. He's probably having a great time out there."
The landlady agreed with her husband and didn't bother with Wu Xiong. She plopped down in a chair and dozed off.
The tenant in room 203 downstairs felt that there was a terrible stench coming from the sewers lately, so she angrily went to room 303.
An old man opened the door. She paused for a moment, thinking, "An old man couldn't possibly have such a smelly excrement, could he?" She said, "You've got the wrong person," and left.
When Zhang Yunmei arrived at room 403, she opened the door.
"403, did someone in your family take laxatives? Why does the sewer smell so bad for days on end?!"
"Hey 303, watch your mouth! I haven't been home for days, okay? My son is so small, how could he possibly poop such smelly poop?"
303 suddenly felt somewhat guilty, but having gone this far in the argument, would turning around and leaving suddenly make him seem scared?
He started arguing with the landlady of apartment 403 again, and finally managed to get her to come downstairs.
The landlady was getting annoyed. "403! What's wrong with your place again? This is so annoying."
Zhang Yunmei stared at her with wide eyes, "Old woman, is it someone from 303 who came up here to cause trouble?! They insist that our house smells bad because of our poop."
The person in room 303 clearly calmed down, saying, "Our sewer stinks horribly! I don't know who did it."
Zhang Yunmei was about to retort when the old woman spoke first, "Stop shouting! I'll send someone to check the sewers."
The landlady kicked the resident of 303 back to the third floor, then went down to the first floor. She stood at the drain opening and smelled it; she almost vomited.
She picked up her phone and called a repairman, who was a bit impatient and didn't want to work at all that day.
Two repairmen arrived shortly after. They removed the sewer cover, and one of the workers climbed down and found a large pile of rotting flesh in the sewer. He went over and turned the flesh over, discovering a finger inside. He was so frightened that he sat down on the ground and shouted to the workers above to call the police.
"What's wrong with Lao Yu? Why did you call the police?"
The workers above looked at the wellhead with suspicion. What was wrong with Old Yu? The workers below suddenly rushed up.
"Call the police immediately! There are people doxxing us!"
The old woman was completely confused. "What's down there?"
"Oh dear, grandma, please call the police! Someone has died here! There's a huge pile of chunks of flesh suddenly appearing down there."
The old woman's heart skipped a beat. One person had just died, and now another one was dying? Did she even want to keep her building?
The worker immediately picked up his phone to call the police, and Tang Hao from unit 402 came down – the fastest response time in history.
A large number of police officers arrived quickly and efficiently cordoned off the scene. He Tiantian was awakened by the noise downstairs. She squinted and climbed up to play from the windowsill.
She was wide awake. "Zhouzhou, what's going on downstairs? It's so noisy!"
Shen Yizhou turned to look at He Tiantian, who was standing by the window smoking with one hand. "This morning, 303 went to 403 to argue, saying that her poop smelled really bad. As a result, they found some rotten meat in the sewer downstairs."
He Tiantian listened, stunned. Did that mean there was another murder?
“It can’t be Wu Xiong, can it…” He Tiantian blurted out.
Shen Yizhou frowned and looked at He Tiantian, "I had almost forgotten about him. He hasn't shown up these past few days."
He Tiantian leaned against the windowsill. The police downstairs had finished collecting the pile of meat and were preparing to leave.
When the old woman heard the police say that it was indeed human tissue, she almost choked.
