Chapter 3 Yan Zhao
Wenxi accepted the gift box. "I almost forgot about that too."
Secretary Jiang spoke up for Shang Chen, saying, "The master was worried that the diamond's carat weight was too large, making it inconvenient for you to wear while working, so he personally chose a smaller diamond. He will choose a new one for the wedding."
Wenxi is not a person without vision. Although the diamond is small, a natural purple diamond from Fancyintense, which is about one carat, costs eight figures.
Wenxi leaned back in her chair, trying on the ring, and tilted her head to ask, "Did your boss really choose this himself?"
Secretary Jiang wanted to say "of course," but when she met Wen Xi's all-knowing gaze, she could only force a smile.
Wenxi didn't make things difficult for any of the secretaries: "The ring is nice, I like it quite a bit. I'll treat Secretary Jiang to coffee sometime."
"Thank you, Madam!"
Secretary Jiang quietly wiped away a bead of sweat.
He discovered that his wife possessed certain qualities very similar to his husband; she saw through many things but was dignified and would not expose him on the spot.
As soon as Wenxi reached the door, she heard a lot of laughter and cheerful voices.
Once inside, they discovered that the Yan family home was quite lively.
Yan's father and mother, his younger brother Yan Xu, and an unexpected guest... Yan Zhao and his wife.
However, Shang Chen, one of the main characters, was nowhere to be seen.
Yan Zhao, the adopted daughter of the Yan family, and her husband Lu Jinghuai got their marriage certificate five days ago; they weren't returning to their parents' home today.
Upon seeing Wenxi, the laughter inside the room paused, and Yan Huai'an spoke first: "Xixi is here?"
"Shang Chen went to the restroom, please have a seat."
Mother Zhou Ruo also released her embrace of Yan Zhao, feeling somewhat at a loss, yet also wanting to show her care for Wen Xi.
"Xixi, what would you like to drink? Milk or juice?"
Wenxi handed the bag to the aunt and said calmly, "A glass of warm water will do."
She had just sat down when Yan Xu, who was next to her, suddenly got up and moved to the other side, as if afraid that others wouldn't know he didn't welcome Wen Xi.
Yan Huai'an disapproved of his son's behavior, but he couldn't afford to make a scene now, so he simply explained, "Yan Zhao didn't know you were coming this afternoon."
“It’s the same whether it’s morning or afternoon, she can come anytime.” Wenxi said calmly, “We agreed that after we recognized each other as relatives, the two families would continue to interact normally, I’m not that narrow-minded.”
Yan Xu said, "That's exactly right!"
"My sister was raised by you. Just because she's not your biological daughter, does she have to hide from people when she comes to see you?"
The "sister" he was referring to was, of course, Yan Zhao.
The day Wenxi returned with Yan Huai'an and his wife, Yan Xu pointed at her nose and cursed at her.
"I've only ever had one older sister in my life, you'll always be an outsider!"
It's clear that Yan Xu is very protective of his older sister, Yan Zhao.
Yan Huai'an: "You brat, get back upstairs! I haven't settled accounts with you for what you did yet!"
Yan Xu snorted and said sarcastically, "Are you sure you want me to get lost on the day your own daughter returns home?"
Yan Huai'an was furious.
Wenxi took the water from the aunt and sipped it slowly, her posture relaxed and her eyes indifferent, like an outsider watching someone else's drama.
She knew that Yan Huai'an and Zhou Ruo were not bad people, and they also wanted to make amends to her, their daughter who had been separated from them for twenty-seven years.
Unfortunately, Wenxi is not seven years old, but twenty-seven, and has already passed the age where she needs her parents.
Soon, Shang Chen returned.
His gaze immediately fell on Wen Xi, and he frowned slightly: "Aren't you cold?"
Wenxi paused for a moment, then said, "It's alright."
Yan Huai'an and Zhou Ruocai noticed that Wen Xi was only wearing a thin, simple white shirt, paired with flowing trousers.
It's only early autumn, and the temperature is already low. Then, a sudden gust of wind this afternoon caused the temperature to drop to ten degrees Celsius.
Walking down the street, you probably wouldn't find anyone dressed as lightly as Wenxi.
Wenxi: "It's okay, I'm not afraid of the cold."
Zhou Ru disagreed, saying, "Although I'm not afraid of the cold, I should still wear more clothes. Girls shouldn't get cold."
Wenxi: "Okay, I'll put on more clothes when I get back."
"We already have your clothes at home." Zhou Ruo: "I'll ask the housekeeper to get you a coat."
Wenxi did not refuse.
When Shang Chen sat down, he glanced at Wen Xi's face again, then his gaze fell on her hands.
Wenxi knew he was looking at wedding rings, so she deliberately raised her hand.
She noticed his wedding ring immediately as well.
Yan Zhao noticed Wenxi's action.
She also had fair skin, but her features resembled her biological father's; she was delicate but not particularly refined, except for her round and obedient eyes.
Yan Zhao asked curiously, "Sister Wenxi, is that a wedding ring on your hand?"
Wenxi nodded: "Mm."
"Although the diamond isn't very big, it feels perfect for everyday work wear," Yan Zhao said with a hint of envy. "Did Brother Shang choose it for you personally?"
Wen Xi smiled faintly and looked deeply at Shang Chen: "Yes, he chose it for me personally."
Since Secretary Jiang has said so, she has to give him some face.
Shang Chen said without changing his expression, "Wenxi often goes to court, so it's not appropriate for her to dress too ostentatiously."
Yan Zhao smiled, but there was a hint of bitterness in her smile.
"Although Brother Shang is serious and old-fashioned, he is always very considerate. Sister Wenxi is really lucky."
Wenxi said calmly, "You are also blessed to have married the person you wanted to marry."
Yan Huai'an and his wife felt uneasy listening to this.
When the decision was made to switch the children back, neither family made any arrangements for a marriage.
The two marriages involve four families; they are not like buying and selling goods where a mistake can be easily resolved by finding a different match.
The marriage between the Shang family and the Yan family was arranged ten years ago. It was only a marriage alliance between the two families, and there was no stipulation that Shang Chen had to marry Yan Zhao. The Shang family has many descendants who have grown up together since childhood, so they can discuss it.
However, the marriage between the Lu and Wen families was arranged because of Lu Jinghuai and Wen Xi. The entire Lu family was very satisfied with Wen Xi and valued her as a person.
When the four families sat down together to discuss the marriage, Yan Zhao suddenly said that she had a crush on Lu Jinghuai for five years and really wanted to marry him.
She had already expressed her opinion, and her biological parents on the Wen family side really wanted to compensate her, so they did their best to facilitate the marriage.
The Wen and Lu families had only been engaged two years ago, and the wedding proceeded as planned.
The Yan family and the Shang family had arranged a marriage between their children ten years ago. The two families had very deep-rooted interests, so this marriage could not afford to go wrong.
Finally, Wenxi nodded and agreed to marry Shang Chen. The two parties exchanged their marriage contracts, thus peacefully resolving the two marriages.
To be honest, it was Yan Zhao who stole Wenxi's fiancé, and Wenxi could only marry Shang Chen in the end.
"My dream when I graduated from university was to marry Brother Jinghuai." Yan Zhao smiled brightly, "I never thought my dream would come true one day."
Wenxi: "It's fine."
