Chapter 2 Not His Biological Child
As the bedroom lights dimmed, Wenxi was enveloped in exhaustion.
So much has happened during this time that Wenxi feels like it's not real.
A month ago, she was on a business trip abroad when her friend was in a car accident and the blood bank was running low.
She volunteered to donate blood, and a check revealed that she was blood type O.
The father, Wen Haichuan, has type A blood, and the mother, Ning Jin, has type AB blood, so it was impossible for them to have a child with type O blood, Wen Xi.
Wenxi rushed home and had a paternity test done.
The result caused upheaval in both families.
An investigation revealed that a nurse's mistake had resulted in the babies of the Yan and Wen families in the capital being switched at birth.
After the initial shock, both the Yan and Wen families reunited with their children.
Wenxi changed her parents overnight, and soon after, she changed her fiancé.
Her new fiancé is Shang Chen.
The two met only once before registering their marriage, and once they reached an agreement, they decided to register their marriage.
The Shang and Yan families are old friends. They arranged their marriage more than ten years ago and have jointly invested in several large projects, with their interests deeply intertwined.
Wenxi had no choice but to marry.
At six o'clock in the morning, Wenxi got up as usual, changed into her sportswear, and prepared to go downstairs for a run.
She has always had a habit of exercising.
As soon as I went downstairs, I ran into Shang Chen, who was dressed the same way, wearing a gray tracksuit that made him look a few years younger.
The oppressive aura had faded considerably.
Wenxi greeted first, "Good morning."
Shang Chen nodded slightly. "Running?"
"Hmm." Wenxi asked, "You also have a habit of jogging in the morning?"
"I'll run when I have time."
That means they didn't run much.
With such a large group under its management, Shang Chen must not have much free time.
Wenxi nodded, then started running without saying anything more.
Mansion No. 3 was a temporary wedding home purchased by the business owner. It is close to the law firm where Wenxi works and is a well-known luxury residence in Beijing.
Wenxi had only been here a short time and wasn't very familiar with the layout of the wedding house.
But she knew that the merchant had already purchased a villa on Banshanhu Island, with top-notch decorations, and it took five years to complete the inspection. It was prepared as a wedding house for Shang Chen and Yan Zhao.
Unfortunately, the baby swapping incident happened later, and the house was no longer suitable.
Fearing that Wenxi might feel uncomfortable, the business owner quickly spent a lot of money to purchase Mansion No. 3, and even specially put only Wenxi's name on it as compensation.
Of course, the Yan family may also be trying to compensate her for the daughter they only recognized after twenty-seven years.
After running a few laps, Wenxi was caught up by Shang Chen again.
Shang Chen suddenly slowed down. "Not running anymore?"
Wenxi was puzzled, but still replied, "Well, that's good enough."
Wenxi silently calculated that Shang Chen had already run ten laps and seemed to be in good condition, his stamina was indeed excellent.
After she finished answering, she noticed that Shang Chen had been staring at her for several seconds, his eyes dark and deep.
What's on my face?
"You're wearing makeup?"
Wenxi: "No."
"Very white."
Shang Chen's words were concise and to the point.
He had just noticed that Wenxi had very fair skin, and when she stood in the garden bathed in sunlight, she seemed to be glowing.
Wenxi glanced at him. "Thank you for the compliment. You're very fair-skinned too."
Shang Chen: "..."
He finally realized that Wenxi didn't like his praise.
Wenxi really didn't like Shang Chen's praise.
It wasn't that she didn't like people praising her for being fair-skinned, but rather that she disliked Shang Chen's mannerisms.
He was like someone walking down the street and seeing a very white piece of pork. His eyes were drawn to it, and after examining it closely, he praised it with two words—"very white."
It contains no emotion whatsoever, only an affirmation of established facts.
Shang Chen encountered a setback that was neither too strong nor too weak.
Wenxi thought that someone in such a high position would no longer pay attention to her, but to her surprise, Shang Chen was still running alongside her.
When are you free today?
Wenxi then remembered that today was the third day of her marriage, and there was a custom of returning to her parents' home after marriage.
She didn't forget; she just deliberately ignored it.
Given her current status, it would be awkward for her to return to any of the doors.
Shang Chen also asked, "Are we going to the Wen family?"
"No need." Wenxi explained, afraid he would overthink it, "The Wen family doesn't have the habit of having family gatherings. My brother is also abroad and hasn't come back yet, so there's no need to go. It would only bother them."
Shang Chen could tell that she didn't have a very good relationship with Wen's parents, and was only closer to her older brother Wen Zhou.
"Where is the Yan family?"
With her parents' approval and the marriage already finalized, Wenxi wasn't being coy: "I have a court hearing this morning, so I'll only be free this afternoon."
Shang Chen: "Then let's go have dinner. I'll pick you up at five."
Wenxi didn't want to trouble Shang Chen: "Your company is close by, there's no need for you to take a detour to pick me up. Just agree on a time and we'll go together."
Shang Chen: "Okay."
Once the itinerary was finalized, Shang Chen sped off, while Wen Xi took her time walking around before going upstairs to shower and change.
When she came downstairs, Shang Chen had already finished eating and was ready to leave.
Seeing her unhurried demeanor, I asked, "What time does the law firm open?"
Wenxi was in a good mood. "I'm not going to the law firm. I'll go to court at nine o'clock for the hearing."
No wonder they weren't in a hurry at all.
Shang Chen started out in investment banking, and later went directly to the Shang Group as CEO. He was used to seeing busy people rushing around with coffee in hand, but this was the first time he had seen a leisurely 'elite lawyer' like Wen Xi.
Watching Shang Chen's departing figure, Wen Xi waved generously and said, "Goodbye."
Shang paused for a moment, then said in a deep voice, "Goodbye."
Wenxi suddenly laughed, a hint of brightness appearing in her delicate and aloof eyes.
That's the kind of joy that leisurely office workers experience watching their bosses work like oxen and horses at 8 a.m., a joy that Shang Chen can't understand.
Wenxi is usually very busy, but she just finished a case yesterday, so she can be so relaxed today.
Shang Chen really didn't understand what Wen Xi was laughing about.
After getting on the bus, he turned on his tablet to read current events.
Something suddenly popped into my head.
Wenxi looks a lot like her biological mother, Zhou Ruo, except that Wenxi is colder and more arrogant, while Zhou Ruo is more gentle and bright.
At first glance, most people would be overwhelmed by Wenxi's aura and would not associate her with Zhou Ruo at all.
At 5 p.m., Wenxi drove to the Yan family's old residence.
As soon as she got out of the car, Shang Chen's secretary stopped her and handed her a gift bag.
Secretary Jiang quickly said, "Madam, the master was going to give you the wedding ring this morning, but he forgot and specially asked me to wait for you here."
"If my family sees me not wearing my wedding ring, they'll definitely be suspicious."
If the couple hasn't worn their wedding rings even after only three days of marriage, everyone is probably starting to wonder about the state of their marriage.
