By the time the little guy stopped eating, it had grown from a tiny ball the size of half a palm to a ball the size of a palm that could sit comfortably in the palm of your hand and occasionally spread its wings.
The three crest feathers on its forehead are still light red, but the down feathers on the inside of its wings have a touch of golden red, making it look particularly beautiful when it flaps its wings.
Wow, it really works?
Alice, who was also watching from the sidelines, finally breathed a sigh of relief and exclaimed in surprise.
Her chest and abdomen heaved violently, and her clothes were slightly wrinkled, clearly because she had been so nervous that she forgot to breathe.
I glared at her sideways: "You actually told me this with such uncertain guesses? I'd like to ask you where you heard that from."
Alice waved her hand: "Oh dear, who would have thought you'd be so impatient? I only heard about it by chance, and I've only just started, and you've already jumped right in. Didn't you see my palms were sweating with fear? I was worried the little guy might just burn right out of the shell... Slurp, it's not impossible. Even though it's small, roasted bird meat still smells delicious... Ouch! That hurts!"
I slowly withdrew my foot from her calf, then pulled the little creature, who kept looking around and rubbing against me, closer to my chest, watching her warily: "This is a phoenix! Even though it's just a chick, do you know what that means?"
"It means my owner's family is going to have a new pet!"
Alice said with a grin.
I frowned.
"Oh well, whatever, the result is good, right? We don't need to worry about other unimportant things."
I lowered my voice: "I vaguely remember that there was a guy who would go to great lengths just because other people shared similar attributes with him..."
This refers to the time when Alice, that wretched rabbit, first appeared.
That morning, before I woke up, Alice, who had just been thrown over by Yao, supposedly happened to encounter the [cat] wandering in front of my door and left it with a rather deep wound, leaving it almost on the verge of death.
Noticing that Alice's color changed for a moment, I was quite certain that her memory was still good, so I didn't need to repeat myself.
Scratching the back of her head, the female knight's gaze darted across the ground, as if trying to find any possible cracks between the bricks: "Uh, uh, if you ask me, that was actually an accident, do you believe me... uh, okay, I knew you wouldn't." She raised her hands, bowed her head, and said, "I'm sorry, I was wrong."
"And then you'll dare to do it again next time?"
"I won't do it again next time... Oh no, I won't dare this time either!"
I'll trust her this once.
"Compared to that," perhaps seeing that my expression had eased a little, she came over again, wagging her tail, and handed me what she had been holding. "This is perfect for you now."
I stared in surprise at the ruby placed in my palm, then turned to look at her: "Didn't you say it was your treasure? How could you be so willing to give it to me?"
“Even treasures need to be useful to be called treasures.” Alice smiled and her eyebrows curved. “Obviously, this thing is no longer of much use to me, so it would be more practical to give it to you.”
"What's the use of this thing?"
"It's a container that can hold some special entities, so it's normal that you haven't heard of it."
Alice explained, "This might also be one of our knights' exclusive secret weapons. Some elemental creatures, or beings that can transform into elemental forms, can be collected and released when necessary to cultivate relationships or for use in battle." She paused, "Of course, there's also the ability to forcibly contain some beasts and transform them, but this method has a certain chance of failure."
"Then what does this have to do with me?" I asked, puzzled.
Alice panicked: "Oh dear, look at this little thing in your hand! If it really is the legendary phoenix, then it must be a special creature that can transform into a fire elemental, otherwise how could it be reborn from fire!"
The phoenix's rebirth in the fire... is it really explained as transforming into fire and then regenerating from it?
I suddenly remembered the phoenix emblem I had obtained from that cave, and suddenly understood why it was possible to avoid death and thus achieve rebirth.
I remember hearing before that some powerful mages could merge themselves into the world to achieve long-distance movement or evasion, such as lightning incarnation, wind-based escape, and fire skin. These are all variations and modifications of this kind of operation at different levels, but the actual principle and essence are roughly the same, and they probably use similar principles.
Maybe it really is possible.
What should I do?
"Should we put the little guy inside the gem?"
Alice leaned closer again with great interest, grabbed my left hand that was holding the ruby, and moved it towards the little guy: "Just imagine the little guy being sucked in with a whoosh, and then you can coax it. This gem itself has been specially treated, and the space inside is quite large."
I nodded, about to do as she said, when I suddenly stopped and looked at her, puzzled. "Wait, according to what you said before, shouldn't this thing also contain the creatures you put in before? If we put the little guy in, won't the two of them fight?"
"You're worrying too much."
The wicked knight suddenly stopped laughing: "I just confirmed it. The guy who fought alongside me a long time ago is already dead. And because he was stored in the gem in the form of elements, after a long period of time, those dead elements have long since dissipated, and not even a trace of the corpse has been left."
