Gu Qingyan pursed her lips, her eyes showing some hesitation.
The next second, Gu Qingyan was knocked to the ground by a shovel.
Gu Ningning was originally going back to get a more suitable tool when she overheard Gu Qingyan pleading with his bodyguard to tell him where Xiao Wanqing was.
Seeing that he did not refute the bodyguard's words, Gu Ningning was furious and directly stabbed Gu Qingyan in the back with a shovel.
Caught off guard, Gu Qingyan fell to the ground.
"Damn it!" Gu Qingyan couldn't help but curse. He turned around and saw Gu Ningning. He frowned and scolded, "What are you doing?"
"What would I do? I'm afraid you've gone mad and knelt down for a woman, bringing shame to the Gu family!"
Gu Ningning put her hands on her hips and unleashed a torrent of words at Gu Qingyan.
"How could that be?!" Gu Qingyan was a little embarrassed, so he had to put on his older brother's airs. "Why don't you just knock your brother to the ground without even asking what happened?"
"You'd better be clear-headed!" Gu Ningning snapped. Although she and Xiao Wanqing had always been on good terms, she hadn't been able to contact her for so long, and Xiao Wanqing was never there whenever she needed help. As a result, Gu Ningning had developed some resentment and dissatisfaction towards her.
"Get back to work." The bodyguard, seeing that they were arguing, got a little bored and waved his hand to send Gu Qingyan away.
Gu Qingyan wanted to ask about Xiao Wanqing, but seeing Gu Ningning glaring at him angrily, he swallowed his words, picked up the hoe, and followed Gu Ningning into the field.
"I don't know how to do it." Gu Qingyan stood in the field, pursed his lips, looked at the hoe, and was at a loss. He had never done farm work before, or even housework.
Faced with this unfamiliar hoe, he felt somewhat powerless.
"If you don't know how, then learn! What else can you do?!" Gu Ningning snapped irritably. She walked to the neighboring field, picked up a hoe, and slammed it down hard, then vigorously turned over the soil. Her movements were practiced and efficient, leaving Gu Qingyan dumbfounded.
Gu Qingyan took a deep breath, picked up the hoe, and tried to turn the soil like Ningning, but found that the hoe seemed to be out of his control. He did manage to turn up some soil, but it looked messy. He thought that maybe turning it a few more times would fix it, but after several attempts, it was still the same, so he walked behind Gu Ningning.
"Ningning, something seems off." Gu Qingyan called out to Gu Ningning softly, a little embarrassed.
"Even a pig is smarter than you!" Gu Ningning glanced back at the mess Gu Qingyan had made of the field and became even angrier. She walked over, snatched the hoe from Gu Qingyan's hand, and shoved him aside. "Look at what you've done! You're just making things worse. Get out of the way, watch where you're going, don't delay my meal!"
Gu Qingyan stood aside, feeling somewhat aggrieved after being scolded, watching Gu Ningning skillfully turn over the soil, feeling a little disappointed.
"I'm sorry..." Gu Qingyan said cautiously.
"What's the use of saying sorry? Just looking at you makes me angry." Gu Ningning shoved the hoe back into Gu Qingyan's hand in a huff. "Hurry up!" she said, then went back to her own side, picked up her tools, and started working.
Gu Qingyan was speechless, but seeing how hard Gu Ningning was working, he didn't say anything and started working as well. After working for an unknown amount of time, Gu Qingyan felt extremely tired. He relaxed and wanted to sit down by the edge of the field to rest and say a few words to Gu Ningning, but he found that Gu Ningning was almost at the end, while he was still in the middle, which made him feel a little awkward.
Gu Ningning finally finished turning over the last bit of soil. She looked up, wiped her sweat, and wanted to check on Gu Qingyan. When she saw Gu Qingyan still leisurely sitting on the edge of the field resting, she was instantly furious. She threw down her hoe, put her hands on her hips, and shouted at Gu Qingyan, "Gu Qingyan, are you even capable? You're useless at everything! I've been finished for ages, and look at you, you've only done this little bit, and you're still slacking off! Can't you have any ambition?!"
Gu Qingyan was thoroughly scolded and felt a bit angry. He stood up, walked over to Gu Ningning, and said, "Do you think I don't want to finish quickly? I'm tired too, I just need to rest a bit. Do you have to yell at me like that?"
Gu Ningning was surprised that Gu Qingyan would talk back, and she became even angrier, saying, "What's wrong with me talking to you? Can't I even talk to you? Look at you, dawdling like that, do you even want to eat dinner?! You don't want to eat, but I do!"
Gu Qingyan felt incredibly aggrieved after hearing Gu Ningning's words. His face flushed red, and he wanted to retort but couldn't find the right words. He could only stand up, dust off his pants, and continue working. However, the soil he turned was clearly substandard, and he would be in trouble when the bodyguards inspected it later.
Gu Qingyan had no choice but to start over, but as soon as he bent down and laboriously turned over the soil, he noticed a large shadow in front of him. He looked up and saw Gu Ningning standing in front of him. She had a tense face and was looking at Gu Qingyan with a very unpleasant expression. Gu Qingyan thought she was going to scold him again, but to his surprise, Gu Ningning just looked at him, then silently walked to the soil she had turned over, picked up the hoe she had put down, and went to Gu Qingyan's field, bending down to help him with the work.
Gu Qingyan was standing in the middle of the field, while Gu Ningning was at the end, turning towards the middle.
Gu Qingyan stared blankly at Gu Ningning, a complex mix of emotions welling up inside him. He knew Gu Ningning was helping him, but he also knew he couldn't let her do this. He tried to persuade Gu Ningning to go back, but she ignored him, focusing intently on turning over the soil. Gu Qingyan sighed helplessly, picked up a hoe, and joined Gu Ningning in turning the soil.
They silently turned the soil, not uttering a single word. Only when it began to darken did Gu Ningning, her face cold, pick up the hoe and put it back in its place. Then she began to put on her coat. She was already drenched in sweat.
The bodyguard poured himself a cup of hot tea and joked with Gu Ningning, "Oh, it seems that Miss Gu has quite a bit of potential."
Gu Ningning ignored him, simply buttoning up her coat one button at a time, and said coldly to the bodyguard, "Are you happy to torture us?"
“Yes,” the bodyguard chuckled, “my job here is to mess with you little by little.”
"I'll give you money, you can cause more trouble for Gu Qingyan and let me go, okay?" Gu Ningning glanced in Gu Qingyan's direction and said in a low voice.
